I agree, as a type 2 diabetic. Who has attended an course on my condition and deals with this crap daily. You will be told flat out that the body does not care where sugar comes from. To your body. Sugar is sugar. For me fruit can be just as bad as a candy. What makes it any different for a non diabetic? Nothing other than…

I do 5x5, don't log and don't weigh often. Does that count? lol.

^^ I am hoping this is my future lol. Even at 7 weeks I think I notice subtle changes, not so much in the gut yet, but arms, and shoulders funny enough. Could just be mental but at least its in the right direction. Glad you found a rack. The bench press seems weird to do with no spotter. Its my understanding to set your…

Dude, I couldn't read all the posts. But, do not be afraid. Check the support man! It's awesome. Even with all of it, this is for you and to be done by you. Kick *kitten* friends are a huge help though. Jump in. See your goal every day. Picture it. Ask for help, advice and motovation. Doesn't matter what you start as, it's…

Thanks. Materials wise it was fairly cheap. Time wise not so much. I'm sure I would build another if asked, but unlikely just to build one. I would have to improve the system a bit. Mainly the hole drilling. By far the most time consuming part of the project.

Hi. Go lift. You shouldn't let anything stop you. Especially others. 2 likely scenarios I see, A) they will check you out and want to help you. B) they will be focused on what they are doing. Just get in there an go. I'm sure its tough, but standing on the outside afraid of what others might do, or think, is an excuse.…

Search stronglifts 5x5 on you tube. He has the entire workout on there. It will really depend on your equipment, don't be afraid to push it as long as your not going to injure yourself. Lots of good advice given already. Good luck.

Your wealthy big pen is What?

I agree they look thin. It's 3/4" solid round bar. Its part of why I will consider switching the safeties at some point. But the total yield strength strength of that bar is aprx 54000 pounds per square inch. From what I understand the shear strength on the safe side is half that in basic terms. This is best guess though,…

Worked out last night. What a difference. No more struggling to get to squat position. Felt good man!

I was just reading about the calorie thing. From what I read the formula is basically the same, but the ingredients vary by country. Something gives its an extra couple cals. Its funny though, because unless they changed it, In the US anything with 5 or less calories can be claimed as no calorie. Sorry to hijack. Nerd tip…

Best thing you can do is what your doing. Keep Going. Change will not happen if you quit. You can't let anyone be the deciding factor in your push for loss. Only you. The sooner you realize its for you and don't matter what anyone says or thinks, the better off you will be. Just remember what you are doing is a good thing!…

I drink a can a day and have lost a slow but steady 14lbs and counting. I'll keep drinking it thanks.

Well, after a long haul and perfect timing, I finally finished the rack. Into it for maybe around $200 (160 for steel) and a crap load of time. Which is fine, I like to build things anyway. Drilling holes was by far the worst part of the ordeal. A drill press goes a long way there. I did go through one bit, it was used…

I felt this the first few weeks too. As mentioned, I think positioning is key for this. For me it seems I sort of hit the back of my neck and kinda let the bar almost "roll" down onto my shoulders. Kinda hard to explain. And I'm only starting week 6 so my weight may be lighter than yours but I definitely felt discomfort…

Anthrax. Got the time \m/

Sure why not? Might want a flat bench too. Anything is better than nothing though. What range will depend on you really. Just make sure you have a range you wont out lift anytime soon. Here is a link for dumbbell exercises and routines. http://www.dumbbell-exercises.com/index.html Good luck!

Here to see what snarting was. now I know.

I haven't lifted in years before starting 5x5, I started at the bar, following the program exactly. Very tough to keep from adding weight, but I figure I am in no hurry and it doesn't hurt for form ect. I do workout at home though. Props to you guys that hit the gym and start at bar weight. Ego check for sure. :drinker:

Just started week 5 today. So far so good. Not entirely sure of progress yet, I have way more weight to lose than you but I think its helped. Sure beats the bike lol. I work out at home also and I just wanted to mention, I have made it to week 5 without a rack. I am building one (welder by trade) and its almost done, the…

I'd go with free weight vs any machine style. Some dumbbells and a bench can go a long way. I had a machine and it got old quickly. Limited also it seemed. Switched to Olympic weights and bench and I'm much happier. Anything will be better than nothing though. Good luck :)

Its a number used by insurance companies and doctors because it an be quantified. The method however is flawed.

Food companies have entire teams of scientists just to keep you craving and buying more. Texture is one of those things. Right down to how much force it requires to chew. There was an article not to long ago about this. A former food company scientist that quit because he felt wrong basically making ways to get people…
