I read that nursing moms are supposed to get no less than 1800 calories a day. I think that's an estimate based on say 1300 for your brm, and then another 500 for the milk supply. I'm sure smaller people can get away with a little less and bigger people need more. The age of the baby and whether or not s/he is eating any…

My downfall is ice cream, but i'm guessing it's more broadly carbs. And I didn't get the bowl... I got the burrito - cut it in 1/2, ate 1/2 at the restaurant, like a good calorie counter would. Went home and ate the other 1/2 unnecessarily... That was 1169 calories! I acted crazy and went for a jog to "make up for it," in…

I really enjoy eating 1 piece of whole wheat toast with 2 T peanut butter and a little ugar-free jam (I made my own, but you can get that at the store, I'm sure). Carrot on the side. The PB keep me really full and it satisfies my sweet tooth, too. Guess that's kind of boring, but I LOVE it.

Well, I made some smart choices at the sushi place, but did not make the smart choice to stop eating when I was full, and cannot believe that I consumed 900 calories of fantastic food. Luckily, the type of food sushi is kept me full for a l-o-n-g time, and a light dinner was all I needed. Still under for the day!

Ah - that's perfect! Thanks for the link - that's just what I needed - a list to get an idea of what might be a "safe" choice.

I think mine is public... if not, let me know!

I budget for ice cream every day because I love it so much. I also eat lots of fruit - in one day, I'll eat an apple, pear, banana, grapes and strawberries, and maybe pineapple to hit that sugar craving. Mmmm.... fruit and ice cream go great together too. A little scoop of vanilla fudge ripple with banana, strawberry and…

Walk, no run, away from the muffins!! If you need a chocolate fix, go grab a serving of chocolate chips and slowly eat them (I let them melt in my mouth - can take me a half hour to eat 1 serving). Yes, it's 80 calories, but that's a FAAAARRR cry from 740! Your husband is really testing your resolve, isn't he?? Good luck!

I gain even 4-5 lbs in a day from morning to evening. AND if I eat late, that food is likely still in my belly the next day (or some kind of residual water/bloat from it) and I tend to weigh more the next morning. If I stop eating earlier, likewise, I weigh less the next morning. However, neither that gain or loss…

Yeah... I didn't say this before, but I actually felt pretty disgusting, physically, after eating that sundae. Way too full... won't be doing that again any time soon.

That's kind of what was happening to me. I had 4 days straight at the exact same weight - down to the 10th of a pound, and I just kept getting hungrier by the day until it seemed unbearable yesterday. I feel fantastic today - renewed and ready to go. I gardened for 2 hours, took a Kundalini yoga class (first one ever), and…

I find it nearly impossible to work out after working, so I get up before my husband goes to work to get my exercise in. That way, he's home (albeit, still sleeping) with our baby (who is also still sleeping). I don't go to a gym or anything - just what I can around the house - yoga, gardening, walking/jogging, and…

No secret for me. Eat less, exercise more. I haven't seen dramatic losses like the previous poster, but there is no way I could live on 800 calories a day. I eat about 1800 - 1200 is my base, and 600+ exercise calories a day. I'm hoping to lose 8 lbs in 8 weeks - I'm 1.5 weeks in and have lost 3 lbs, but I think that was…

Can I just say What a *****? Who goes around telling their "friends" that they are fat? I'd ask her flat out - "Why do you say that to me? How would you like if someone always told you you were fat? Do you think that is helpful in any way in my life?" These are really honest and truthful questions - not at all attacking…

Since you already ate the burger and fries, wouldn't it feel better to get the full enjoyment out of it and say "MMM - that was really good!" and then move on with your priority of losing weight? I understand self-flagellation with the goal of reducing the likelihood that you'll over-indulge again, but you're a big girl,…

I track everything but spices like cinnamon, oregano, etc. I even put fresh garlic and ginger, mustard - those little things that really make no difference. I do it because sometimes I'm surprised about the calorie counts in things that I thought weren't so bad.

I think you're making a really smart and healthy choice by going to meet with a nutritionist. I don't obsess over food or calories or exercise, but I do have poor body image, and I understand a lot of what you wrote. Most of the time, when I look in the mirror, I think - ugh... and doing that is so damaging to my…

Makes sense about subtracting the calories - not as big a deal for people who do, say, 3 or 4 mile runs in 30 minutes, but when you do a lighter or more moderate activity for a long period, those "at rest" calories really add up.

Yoga, beginning and ending with a short meditation. It's akin to prayer in bringing serenity. Gardening is a stress-free activity for me. Just remind yourself that you will probably feel worse and more stressed and more out of control if you eat to deal with the stress...

Hi - I'm breastfeeding my 6.5 month daughter (she's really a 9 month old, but was 12 weeks premature, so she eats like a 6.5 monther). I add in breastfeeding as an exercise, and I calculate it at 400 calories, because she is eating some solid food. I eat around 1800-1900 calories a day, and exercise above and beyond the…

This makes tons of sense to me. My body is figuring it all out. I'm at work now, and get to go home in 10 minutes and have a slice of toast with a serving of PB & homemade strawberry jam and a cup of strawberries. VERY much lookng foward to it!!!
-
My base is 1200, but I add in breastfeeding as an "exercise" every day - 400 calories (she's a 6 month-er), so that makes 1600. Then I exercise/garden to bring the total up between 1800 and 2000, and I try to eat all my exercise calories, usually falling just a little under.

mmm.... tuna on a rice cake actually sounds pretty good!

I'm not addicted to soda, but have a real issue giving up ice cream or some kind of sugary dessert at night. Like you said, it feels like an addiction whenever I try to go more than 1 night without dessert... I quit smoking years ago. I quit drinking years ago. But I just CANNOT give up my ice cream! (and I haven't - I…

I weigh everyday, and track it, but my "real" weigh in is Tuesday morning, because that is the day of the week my sister and I made our 8 week/8 lbs weight loss challenge. I guess I'm a little funny, but I weigh in after I go to the bathroom and after I breastfeed my daughter (there is actually a pretty reasonable…

I plan my whole day of eating at breakfast and I budget everyday for ice cream - 1 serving - at night. If I crave something that goes beyond my budget (like granola a few days ago), I make myself earn it with exercise before I can eat it. I soon realized that while I didn't mind walking for a 1/2 hour to earn 1/4 cup of…

I weigh in every single morning at around the same time every morning. I know some people find that obsessive, and for some people, it may be damaging. However, there was recent research done that showed that people who weigh in every day tend to lose a few more lbs, on average, each year, than those who don't. For me,…

Thanks for all the responses... seems like mixed opinions on this. I eat in the afternoon because I'm really hungry! I just called my husband (he's at the grocery store right now!) and asked him to bring home some yogurt. I'm going to try to have a serving of plain yogurt (actually, my favorite kind!) between breakfast and…

I want to get to my pre-pregnancy weight - 112. I'm 5'1, and am currently 120. I've been 102 one time in the past 5 years, and thought I looked fantastic (and felt great about myself), but that weight came and went very quickly. (I only got that small because my life was extremely extremely stressful, and I lost my…
