Good idea! However, my ''chubby buddy'' is more or less competitive... She has a pretty negative attitude towards weight loss so far.. :( I doubt she'd agree to something like that!

It's absolutely normal. You will lose a LOT of weight on the first week. (I lost a whopping 12 POUNDS in the first 5 days alone!) It's all WATER WEIGHT, because your body was sent in shock mode. The point is that it's an excellent source of protein! :) I looooove me some tofu! It tastes great in a stir-fry, or pad thai. When I was a kid, I used to eat it in ham & pea soup! Yummm.
