  • When I'm in the States I drink moderately and don't plan to stop...but know that alcohol is a little different on the calorie front. It's completely empty calories devoid of any nutritional value. Even better your body uses them FIRST....which means that any additional food you ate alongside is more likely to be converted…
  • According to lots of stuff I've read cheat meals are probably helpful in the long term because they prevent your body from going into "holy crap we're starving to death" mode and you continue to lose weight. Also, it seems to me that most people that PLAN for a cheat meal once a week and indulge a little bit are happier…
  • Mine was a book about capturing Saddam...afterward I asked the author a few questions and had him sign it. Pretty neat. Now reading 'Ghost Wars' and 'The Bear Came Over The Mountain'.
  • I do front and side planks and just put "planks"....set: 1 weight: 1 , etc....More of a place holder really. I like that you can add your own exercises too. Welcome to MFP btw.....pretty cool sight that can transform your OCD-like tendencies into productive, positive results. :)
  • I've a friend who is a bio chemist that works for a supplement company and he was talking about some tests and real world examples. Take all the protein you want from supplements...be my guest. I'll continue to use supplements as supplements, instead of substitutes and get most of what I need from a balanced diet.
  • Yep. And if you're not eating enough protein some of your weight loss is going to be muscle.
  • Do 45-60 min of cardio each day and eat right. Strength training mixed in will help as muscle burns fat. Also, word to the wise...people that do more cardio live a lot longer than people who only lift weights.
  • Start using more than 2 scoops a day your digestive system can get "lazy" and you lose the ability to extract protein from the foods you eat. You're setting yourself up for badness. Supplements are supplements...not substitutes.
  • I tried and tried on sparkpeople. First, the interface is a trainwreck....8 billion things you don't need, making the 5 things you do impossible to find. Do a search for 'Chicken Kabob' on sparkpeople....one hit....same search here got me over 100 hits. I desperately wanted to like sparkpeople, but the interface is…
  • My daily goal is 263g protein. I try to get an equal number from carbs...usally set as 35/35/30...protein/carbs/fat...in my settings. Optimum Nutrition Whey Protein...max of two scoops a day will help. Chicken breasts are probably the best thing going for getting a lot of protein. In addition milk/eggs, etc. You have to be…
  • I have that HRM....it says I burn 1600 calories in 60 min on the elliptical. Now, I do weigh 280, keep my heart rate at 155ish and keep the resistance rather high...15 (20 is max). But I go by MFP, which gives me credit for about 1100. Always go with the lower number if you're not sure. I know it's tempting to want to put…
  • You guys are doing a great job...not taking anything away from that. Keep up the good work and here's a happy, healthier us! :) I just say that because I have some friends that start working out and eating right every new years like clockwork....and it seems to always fall apart on them. :/ Too bad.
  • I guess I personally don't buy into the new years resolution thing...if you can't make a decision and stick with it because that is what you want, the calendar is probably not going to make a difference. Do something or don't do something.
  • When I go to the gym I put in my etymotic high-isolation ear phones and either do cardio for an hour or my strength training. I don't care what others are doing.....I'm kicking my workout in the *kitten*. :)
  • I am so confused how this is a topic that people don't get. :/
  • I'm glad it ended the way it did. I'm on the opposite side of the argument of the person who misfortune kicked in the face.
  • Optimum Nutrition Whey....Natural is best...Gold Standard almost as good....some of the best you can get because it's manufactured INSIDE the USA. A lot of companies outsource to third world / third parties. I think milk slows down the delivery....with water its faster absorption.
  • Dealt with this problem a while back...what helped me was getting a foam roller. Do a search on youtube for how to use them. Stretching is key. One stretch for me that helped a LOT was kneeling ON the foam roller...toes pointed straight and legs folded underneath me...allowed me to stretch a little more than if I were…
  • In the aforementioned scenario...the guy that developed the allergy and was eating all the chicken breast lost about 10lb of muscle mass. Eventually the body can regain it's abilities to function properly, but it takes months and by that time the damage will be done. Supplements are not intended to be substitutes for food.
  • I have a friend who is a bio chemists that works for a supplement company....he really really good. He was telling me that he had a mate that developed allergies and had to stop using protein powder. Even though the guy was eating like five chicken breasts a day it didn't matter...the body can get accustomed to getting…
  • Do more reading, but be careful with protein powders....more than 2 scoops a day and you're setting yourself up for some longterm badness.
  • I do love quinoa, but consider there are trade offs for everything. http://howdoyoucookquinoa.com/503/quinoa-protein-meat-eggs/
  • I'm really confused.... So through the study of bio chem you've decisively come to the conclusion that..."there are some huge dudes in prison".
  • Sorry...I shouldn't have come across so harsh. To my way of thinking, that lifestyle is very unnatural. I personally couldn't do it, but wish you the best on your journey. I can tell you that if you're trying to lose weight...and you don't eat enough protein...that weight lose is also going to consists of a lot of muscle…
  • I eat six Kit Kats a day..I don't see the big deal.
  • Maybe you should turn on Discovery or Animal Planet sometime and start rethinking your perception of 'nature'. A diet rich and lean meat and vegetables is easily the best approach.
  • ^^This. I might qualify as otherwise and get to eat more calories...but I'm making terrific progress and I ONLY log my exercise in the gym.
