As others have said I would encourage you to do both now. The number one "regret" I hear from people at the end of their weight loss journey was that they didn't lift weights until they got "skinny". It'll also do your physique wonders once you get close to your goal weight.

it's something that I have been doing to a degree lately. it's pretty remarkable that I can eat a pound of veggies and it's only 50-60 calories. I feel nearly uncomfortably full afterwards for HOURS yet I really didn't eat much in terms of calories. That paired with some good protein can nearly keep me full all day where…

This is my best advice as well. There is a night and day difference between chicken that has been overcooked and cooked properly. Even days later a properly cooked chicken breast is still incredibly tender with lots of moisture whereas chicken I've overcooked is nearly not edible. For times that I end up with dry chicken,…

Usually I have my last meal after I get home from the gym around 1am. I go to sleep shortly thereafter. Meal timings really only matter for people that are prepping for fitness contests. Eating a big meal right before bed is the same as eating it many hours beforehand. There aren't any studies that show eating right before…

Generally you don't need to eat things you really don't like. That's not going to help you stick with a diet plan.

This is precisely what I do. If I want to have chipotle for lunch tomorrow, I'll log my meal in advance and plan my other food choices around that. I feel like that's the entire point of MFP, to make those become good habits and second nature once you're used to eating that way. And personally, I feel like this is the best…

You've lost 113 pounds!! CLEARLY what you were doing is working. Even if you plateau for a couple weeks, don't change up what has been working for you. It's a looooooong process. You'll have plateaus and you'll have have weeks where you lose a lot. The body is a weird thing. Keep up your good work

Like others have said, "Detox" isn't a real thing. Get back to eating cleaner foods and drink lots of water. You'll feel good again in a couple days.

I've been taking creatine for about 8 months now with no negative side effects. It has helped with maybe a 5-10% boost in my lifts and I feel like I have a bit more endurance when I workout.

Their home programs are fairly decent, I enjoyed doing P90X and Insanity a few years ago. I wouldn't buy into their supplements and other products though. Just use their work outs and try to eat right. It's a great combo.

Well of course, it just makes sense. It would also give more motivation to improve their health. Our current system basically rewards people letting themselves go. Yeah they might die at 35 from complications with diabetes but that doesn't seem like motivation for most.

Am I the only one disturbed by the 1.5 liters of coke a day?? That's nearly 800 calories of nonsense. If you just lowered that addiction to 1 can a day, diet coke if you can. I'd imagine you would start losing weight regardless of what else you've been eating. That's just crazy

6' and 185 lbs is a perfectly reasonable weight. Judging by your pic you have a decent amount of muscle mass already. Getting down to 170 is going to be on the very lean side. Ask anyone that does competitions to very low BF%, it's never pretty and certainly not fun or easy. Maybe bring your calorie intake closer to…

It's just not possible to hit those protein goals on only 1000 calories. Ideally you should find something protein packed (30g+) to include with each meal you have. Breakfast is lacking quite a lot it looks like. When do you work out? I'd assume you'd be exhausted burning off nearly everything you eat daily in the gym.…

I personally like to saute mine with some minced garlic, 1 tablespoon of olive oil and some Italian seasonings to your own taste. Don't cook them too long (3-4 min), they cook very quickly and like others said will basically be mushy if you over cook them. Drain the pan, place them on some paper towels to soak up some of…

Same lol. While I'm not shredded either, I don't think myself or anyone I know would refer to me as obese. BMI just can't compensate for people with any sort of muscle mass.

Depends really what it is. Some vegetables have almost no calorie content, like lettuce. Even for a big salad you're only talking 5 or 10 cals. More dense things like most apples, bananas and such can't just be over looked. That's 100+ calories each. A couple of those could be the difference between a calorie deficit or a…

I'd wager that the vast majority of us struggle with the same thing. That's why we're here lol. Just have to get to a place where a bad day doesn't mentally wreck your diet. It's understandable and even advised to take a "cheat day" here and there for your own sanity. I've also found that working those "bad" foods into…

It's great that you're eating so healthy!! One small bonus about healthy eating is you basically get to eat MORE which is great! But I totally relate in how it can be difficult to cram all that into a day and not be miserable. My only suggestions would be to maybe ease back on the ultra healthy options. Instead of just egg…

Maybe reevaluate your diet plan. You shouldn't be in a position where you're starving and having to fend off eating. Maybe have higher protein in your meals to satisfy and make you feel full longer. Keep healthy snacks on hand for days when you might be too rushed to cook a full meal. Thinking ahead goes a long ways. In…

Reading your post and your responses I understand at your age and area that it's just "normal". By no means should dieting severely impact your social life. I'd recommend trying to have an extra intense gym session on those days to negate some of the calories you're going to take in. And while it may not be what you want…

I do the same as you and have thoroughly enjoyed learning to cook dishes and shop for fresh groceries. However, I do have to agree that people going with premade meals are mostly paying for the convenience of not having to cook or having to think about their diet much. Not my thing but I'm sure there are people that just…

16+ pounds in a month is entirely unrealistic and generally unhealthy by ALL standards. That's double the recommended healthy weight loss that's accepted by this community and most doctors.

It's worth noting that restricting to 20 carbs a day is on the extreme low side of the keto diet. I think most people enter a ketosis like state taking in 120g or less a day. Obviously more fat and lean muscle is converted to energy if you're lower in carb intake but having corn on the cob probably wouldn't be enough to…

Well milk has sugar in it sooooo.... I'm not sure why it matters that you had a sip of a smoothie. You still aren't drinking soda which is a positive in itself. And as someone else mentioned, being an all or nothing sort of mind set is setting yourself up for failure. Something small like today derails most people that…

for me mostly just protein shakes and I've started using it when I order coffee/lattes because it adds a really nice rich flavor while still keeping calories down from full fat options

MFP has been a fantastic tool in teaching people proper portion sizes and what those pesky serving sizes on packaging actually mean. After a while weighing and logging things I could quite easily stop using it and probably be fine but knowing exactly what I'm putting into my body and the changes that come from it are…

That depends on what you need daily to maintain weight, which seems to be the calorie range you highlighted. Anything less than that will theoretically result in weight loss. It's also worth pointing out that two weeks is really not enough time to gauge weather a diet program is actually working. My weight can vary by 7-8…

You can just log exercise and the calories you think you burned

Depends really. I am NOT a morning person as I work 2nd shift, so my first meal of the day is generally around lunch time before I leave for work. I have what I would call my lunch and dinner while at work, I do the gym after work and eat "fourth meal" or whatever you want to call it after the gym about an hour before I go…
