  • I'll tell him when I see him next. I see him every 3 months so my next visit is next week. I'm sure we will discuss it. I don't hide it from him. I go in loaded with information. He is lucky I have not found a home lab to test my own blood work, otherwise he would be in trouble with everything I would calculate.
  • Hey, I live in Lombard too! We should get together sometime you sound like a really interesting person I'd like to meet. BTW .... Can you grab my tea when you go back in the kitchen? Thanks. LOL
  • You can ask anything, my highest A1C ever was ... 15. I don't remember my last A1C 6.2 I think but it was the lowest in 15 years, previous to that I was 7.5. Ironically many years before I was diagnosed I was in a major car accident for some reason they did an A1C back then. Glad I had it as a baseline. I stopped taking my…
  • Over the last several months I've been hitting a lot of lows. A year ago I was running consistently 240's all day which is a completely different feeling. This past summer I was hitting 40-70's in the middle of the day. I have the occasional spike still to the low numbers, for me I grab something quick and eat or drink to…
  • You should check out www.meetup.com as well, I believe they have some local groups. I know they have hiking, walking and biking groups that I've gone to before.
  • I agree. I started back in Dec after taking 2 years off and my first 5 weeks back. Nothing, no noticable changes. Then the next 5 weeks things started to happen. False starts are common, but once you get into the swing of things it keeps going. I always tell myself, whether or not I have results .... this is still better…
  • I share your frustration. I'm also trying to balance this with gaining muscle and losing body fat%. I try something for 4-8 weeks and if it doesn't work I change it up to try something else. Right now I"m trying to cut carbs as low as I can and I've felt great. I had carbs this weekend and today and feel slow again.
  • Welcome back. Seems like you are making the first right steps .... you logged in here to continue. Good luck on your journey!
  • Have you found any difference between spreading protein out through the day? Or when you take your protein?
  • I did also learn that just taking Vitamin D may not be enough. If your body is deficient in vitamin D processing, taking supplements is good but you also need ... shoot I'm getting old and forgot ... I believe Calcium is needed to process the vitamin D. So maybe none of us are vitamin D deficient. Maybe we get the right…
  • I found some useful articles on www.bodybuilding.com and www.wannabebig.com I've read conflicting information from it doesn't matter how you break it up throughout the day to eating 25% of your protein pre-workout and 25% post-workout.
  • You would lose weight. I did it for several months (8-9). I kept the weight off for 2 years and then it jumped back on. It is harmful in many ways to your overall health and metabolism. At some point your body needs food. The proper amount of calorie intake is figuring out what your body needs to survive + calories you…
  • The first heart attack usually works wonders to wake people up. Sadly enough dietary incompatibilities lead to great marital stress as well. If he has parents that are unhealthy they might be able to talk to him as well.
  • There are some old wives tales about using Vitamin E to rub on them to make them go away. I say flaunt them because you earned them like the picture suggests, OR Tattoo over them!
  • My biggest challenge is cutting carbs but getting enough calories. You can only eat so much bacon! Trust me. I'm trying to hit 3000 calories but go as low carb as I can and it is a struggle. To get calories I need the carbs. Also I learned a new term. Net Carbs = Carb count - Dietary Fiber. So if getting enough fiber with…
  • How long have you been doing this? I've been trying this the last week and I"m at 20/40/35 most days carb/protein/fat most days. I've never felt better. I've been full of energy all week long. I thought I would run out during my workouts. I workout out daily 1 hour strength + 30 minutes cardio + hot tub/pool/steam room and…
  • In my research lately I've found different views on this. There are those that feel there is only so much your body can process at once. Then there are those who don't believe there are any limits. If you research on the internet you will find stats for men and women who are trying to GAIN muscle, BUILD endurance and such.…
  • Remember don't cut your eating too much. If you search on MFP you will find lots of information about eating the right amount. Just remember your body needs xxxx calories for normal body functions + xxxx calories for your daily life - xxxx calories for exercse gives you your NET calories for the day. What ever your body…
  • Welcome to MFP. Feel free to add me. Other than joining. What else are you doing to "transform" yourself into the image you want?
  • Unless you are trying to build muscle mass in which case you are encouraged to eat 1-2 g / per body weight of lean muscle mass. In my case 170-350 gs a day. Now taking into account your body can only process 40-60 grams every 2 hours, I would think you do and can reach a point of saturation of protein.
  • So what you are saying is .... the EGG did come before the TURKEY. Sweet!
  • I agree with you, "low" as in compared to what? I may eat 100 g per day but my overall food intake that 100 g might be 10% Carb 40% fat and 50% protein. That seems like low carb to me. My understanding was that if you lower carb % and increase fat % you might cause your body to try to use more fat as energy versus carbs.…
  • Well I started on Saturday trying to get no carbs, I don't think it is possible to hit NO carbs but it is a goal to attain, right? Overall I've reduced my carb percentatge to 15-30% the last few days. I feel amazing. No foggy head. I realize it is bad to "play" with diet, exercise and meds. Back in the day before treating…
  • Check out Barlean's Greens Powder. It is like a tablespoon of powder that gives you 11 servings of your daily vegetables. It can be on the expensive side but can't hurt. There are some that are just fruit and some that mix fruit and vegetables.
  • Just had one but added strawberry and greens powder. Not bad
  • Also found http://www.highbloodpressureinfo.org/foods-with-potassium.html
  • Thanks all for the suggestions. I'm not worried about fat as I'm trying to bulk up with clean foods. Keeping my daily fat intake at a minimum of 30%. Can't really stomach cottage cheese since boot camp but i found reciepes to make whey shakes with it that I might try.
  • I believe the calculators are based on LEAN body weight as well not your total body weight. The average is 1.0-1.5 g/per lb for muscle building. I'm 245 but 170 Lean, yes 65 lbs of fat! So my target would be 170-255 grams per day. Roughly divided by 5 meals a day so 34-55 per meal.
  • Switch your lunch and dinner around. Try making your bigger meal lunch and go lighter on the dinner meal. Also how are you calculating calories burned on the elliptical? If you are going off the machine the numbers might not be accurate. Try a new a different exercise, if you feel uncomfortable abandoning your tried and…
  • My blender came with a recipe and it is the only one I've used thank you for new ideas: 6 Ice Cubes 1 scoop whey 2 tbsp peanut butter 1 banana 1/2 cup milk 1 serving of Greens First (veggie powder)
