Great work so far, keep on going!

To be honest you can probably burn just as many calories on either, as you can adjust the resistance/speed/incline/etc. You use some different muscles on the two different machines so I'd suggest doing a bit on each; it helps you not be bored too.

Thanks for the article plus links; interesting reading.

great work! you're looking fantastic.

The sodium and potassium counts on lots of items here are wrong or don't exist, so I ignore tracking them. Anyway, the body can do what it needs to to maintain potassium homeostasis. Sodium is an issue for people buying pre-packaged food and/or with high blood pressure or risk factors for it, so, IF the counts are correct…

MFP need to change the colours. Going "over" on protein or fibre is excellent. It shouldn't light up red. In fact it should be red until you reach the goal. Fat/sugar/calories etc. obviously should aim to be on or just under target.

Don't worry too much about it if you're exercising and have a small-but-reasonable calorie deficit (maybe 500ish below maintenance). My "numbers" were static for a few weeks but then started falling beautifully. I presume it's to do with losing fat and gaining muscle. Have you tried measuring yourself? You might see there…

great work!

Thanks for the comments so far. My "routine" isn't anything special; it's what the gym instructor gave me when I started (he suggested 2 sets of 12 reps but my bro-in-law said 3x10 would be better), and I've increased the weights myself as I felt I could. Currently: vertical chest press machine, 3x10 at 45kg leg press…

Yeah, I agree with everyone above. They really need to fix the "red/green" colouring of numbers on the site. Protein and fibre should be red if they're BELOW the target. Carbs and fat and kcal should be red if they're ABOVE the target.

I understand you're quite content to sit around all day, but how about dedicating a couple of weeks to seeing how it is to actively decide to go out somewhere and do something non-sedentary for half an hour a day? You might find you love it.

Why would you want to get rid of "water weight"? You'll only put it back on as soon as you stop taking anything with diuretic effect. The kidneys are remarkably good at keeping the right amount of water, sodium, etc. in the body. I thought it was fat that we all wanted to lose? You could probably starve yourself and lose 5…

Fantastic achievement! You look great.

There are two things you can do on MFP: Log strength training exercises individually (for personal record). Log "strength training" as an e.g. 30-minute block under *cardio exercises* to give a (very rough) kcal-burned figure.
-
Can't you just calculate for both and take a weight half way between the two results?
-
fantastic work!

feel free to add me, it's always good to have some extra help with motivation. Jonathan.

Try asking at the reception desk if there's a fitness instructor you can have a chat with to work out a good programme. Bear in mind that you can't really burn off fat in specific areas. I've no idea how using the cross-trainer and treadmill is causing you to bulk up your biceps!

Chester here. Feel free to add me, anyone. It'd be nice to have some support/accountability rather than just going it alone.

So THAT'S what it stands for!!! 3 months on this site and I couldn't figure it out..!

Other things? Like what?

This probably won't go down too well, but please make sure you know the medical risks as well as the undisputed emotional benefits. Don't *only* read what everyone who is pro-home-birth says and writes; make sure you get the full picture from both viewpoints. I'm a paediatrician and I look after sick babies on the neonatal…

Doesn't really make any sense. Your blood type is determined by antigens on your red blood cells. Red blood cells don't digest, process or store food. Sounds like another desperate attempt to find an "easy" answer to food problems. And of course anyone who is eating/living unhealthily then goes onto a vegeterian diet and…

I know, I know, but the article does include references to pretty much everything it states, which is better than most wikipedia articles AND most health-type articles you find online.

Wow, it really doesn't sound good. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydroxycut

If you are getting allergic-type symptoms with wheat-based products, there's a reasonable chance you're allergic to it. It might be celiac disease. If you get a confirmed diagnosis from a doctor, the "treatment" is a 100% gluten-free diet. Forever. This reduces the risk of lymphoma (cancer). If you can't afford to see a…

Target 1800 kcal/day, including eating all exercise calories, to aim to lose 1lb/week. 77kg male, sedentary activity level. I have to admit, despite sticking to all the numbers almost every day, I'm don't feel that I'm having a huge amount of success. Still, I'm only 3 weeks into this, and I'm guessing that the last 2…

Yes, you probably would be. your body will be burning energy to keep your core temp around 37deg while the cold water cools you down. I'd pretend you didn't burn any extrathough, unless you're desperate for a few extra calories to be able to eat something else!

how many calories are you limiting your evening meal to? I'm sure people could give suggestions of e.g. "delicious filling 500-calorie meals"
