Others have said it well-- you're eating a lot of the wrong foods to help with belly fat. Bananas, grains, other fruits, etc are high in sugar, carbs, and things that generally lead to that bloated look/feeling. I'm not saying all carbs are bad (after all, there are carbs in veggies, and we all know how good veggies are…

I started eating Paleo (which is a form of high fat/protein low-carb eating) a few weeks ago to see how I would react to it. I'm 5'7 and size 6 (135 lbs) so I'm also not trying to lose weight. In tweaking different metrics I found that I feel way better when I'm eating about 50-60g carbs per day, and that I'll lose inches…

I found a great mix of spices that tastes like taco seasoning mix, but without all the weird "extras" and unpronounceable ingredients in the pouch taco seasoning. Take one tsp garlic powder, 1 tsp cumin, 1 tsp paprika, 1 tsp oregano, 1/2-1 tsp chili flakes (depending on spice level) and 1/2-1 tsp chili powder (again,…

This was really interesting to read, and I checked out the sites you posted as well. I think I'm going to have a hard time running below 149 bpm, which is what I calculated I should be below. Perhaps it'll be more of a speedy walk. I would love to have a lower heart rate while running, so I'll give it a try. Seems like…

That's a great thought, but this is my second heart rate monitor with the same results. Also, if I use the pulse sensors on the gym equipment (treadmill) it shows the same. Thanks for the suggestion, though!

How did you work on improving your aerobic fitness/developing the underlying system?

*lol* Glad I'm not the only one who feels like being in their "zone" would practically mean standing still . I'm a novice runner, but I've been active in other ways for years. I cycle 5-6 days a week (when the ground isn't covered with snow), I do Moksha yoga, and Muay Thai as well. No matter what I'm doing, my heart rate…

Female, 5'7, weighing 135. My pants size is 6 (US) and dress size 4 (also US). T-shirt size is usally small or extra small. Petite on top, but curvy on the bottom! Isn't that always the way? :P

This caught my attention-- I have 6" wrists as well. I started out at 160, got down to 130, and have been maintaining at 135 for the past 2 years. I've noticed that if I eat super well, ultra-low carb, don't drink much and work out 4+ times/week I'll get down to 133, but if I eat well with occasional splurges, enjoy the…

I was just about to suggest the same thing! Yoga is excellent for strengthening muscles while helping you gain flexibility. Also, yoga stresses listening to your body, moving at your own pace, etc. I've fallen in love with hot yoga. I've heard that it helps you get a deeper stretch, releases the muscle more and so on, but…

I've been eating low carb (around 70 carbs/day or less) Monday-Thursday each week, and I know it can be tricky to find foods. As someone else suggested, bacon/eggs, or eggs with some sort of meat in the morning is good. Throughout the day I snack on tuna, cheese, sometimes an apple, etc. Lunch today is a piece of pickerel…

Ahhh, I'm so glad it's not just me!! I lost 30lbs, and as the weight was coming off, I felt great. It was like I was watching myself shrink every time I looked in the mirror. I got down to 130lbs, which for my 5'7 frame is a perfect, healthy weight, and I've maintained that for almost two years... and yet when I look in…

Elsewhere on MFP, someone had posted that if you're looking to lose weight and tone up, you should aim for 1g of protein for every lb of LEAN body mass. For me, that would be about 100g/day. If you're looking to bulk up, they recommended at least 1-1.5g of protein for every lb of body mass. For me, that would be about…

Sushi for dinner for me! My treat after the hot flow yoga class tonight. What are your "treat" meals?

I'll use me as an example. My BMI (which you can find out using a BMI calculator online) is 26%. My weight is 135 lbs. My weight (135) multiplied by my BMI (.26) equals 35.1. This is the amount in lbs of fat I'm carrying with me. My weight (135) less that amount (35.1) equals my lean body mass (LBM of 99.9), That means…

Guilty as charged! I naturally have light brown hair and fair eyebrows. With my (dyed) black hair, unless I pencil them in, it looks like I have no eyebrows. Vanity gets the better of me there. :)

This was really helpful, thank you. I'm stuck on the desolate 135lb plateau, and it's really frustrating me. I got lazy on my eating and was back up to 140 during the holidays, got to 135 without much effort, and have now been stuck here for weeks. I vary between 135-136lbs, and it's making me crazy. I keep within my 1200…

Food is a big comfort/reward thing for me, too, so I understand wanting to cap the week off that way. Some people have mentioned popcorn, which is a great idea. Food aside, though, what about treating yourself to a massage? My boyfriend and I made it a weekly tradition on Fridays to go for a Thai massage; great for your…

I do Moksha yoga, which is very similar to Bikram (hot room and many poses are the same). I love it. I was quite fit, then gained weight. My first hot yoga class I wanted to die; I left there thinking "these people are crazy! I am NEVER doing that again." However, later that evening I felt this wonderfully tired sort of…

20 lbs lost is huge for someone your size! When I started losing weight I was 5'7 and 160, and I got down to 130. Doesn't sound like a lot, but that's 19% of me. I would argue that it's harder to lose weight when the number you're aiming for is smaller, so good for you. You look amazing!

I loved your story! Really great to read. The pics are amazing, you look absolutely fabulous. Great tattoos, by the way!

I started on Friday, so today (Saturday) was my second day. Phew! My muscles are sore, but I love that it's only 20 minutes out of my day. There is no excuse for me, that way-- anyone who can't spare 20 minutes for a better body doesn't want it bad enough! Or so I told myself today...:) Good luck, ladies!

Great job on all you've accomplished so far! As others have said, there's nothing wrong with re-evaluating your goals. When I was 160 my goal was 140, the weight I was 7 years before all the weight gain had started. I got to 140 in no time, but with the healthy eating and active lifestyle, I was down to 130 within another…

MotivateMeg, you are fabulous. Thanks for doing that; I'm not so tech savvy at the best of times. SMOKIN' red dress, by the way!

Thanks for the help!

Seems my first attempt wasn't so stellar! Anyone know how to take pics from Facebook to post? I copied the image location and posted here, but it seems that doesn't do it. Help would be greatly appreciated!

I'm 5'7 and 133 (down from 160 initially). I hear your frustration with the pear-shaped aspect of it; that's me to a T! I wear extra small/small on top, but size 6 on the bottom. It seems like whatever weight I get to, I still have hips and thighs and bootie. I think that genetics comes in there somewhere, and that if…
