Our bodies age, but our souls are ageless. Something to keep in mind when dealing with seniors. Inside every 80 year old, there is a young soul still dancing to the songs of their youth. Puts turning 40 into perspective. :)

Your feelings are normal. I turn 40 in 17 days and up until this week was really excited about it. All of a sudden I'm an emotional disaster! I did some reading last night and found out that adolescence and your 40th birthday milestone are the biggest things we go through. Pretty monumental stuff. My friend at work just…

Everything tastes better with avocado. I use it as a mayo substitute, add it to omelettes, top my chili with it instead of sour cream and cheese. It is a very healthy addition to your diet and at the end of the day, it shouldn't be just about how many calories are in a food, but whether the food is giving you back…

I agree. I'm 39 and when I started running a few years ago, I was heavier and I suffered an IT band injury pretty early on. Keep at the C25k program and you will find as you get stronger, and lighter that the pain will likely subside. I have bunions on my feet, so I've had to modify my running gait over the years to…

Great tips. Thanks for the encouragement and advice. Training for a 1/2 in October, but haven't committed yet to the race. This might give me the push to register.

That it's the best decade of your life! So many things become clear, despite the changes in body, moods etc. I still have kids in the house, a sexy hubby, a full time job, I run in the mornings, bike to work, ski in the winter and rock out at concerts whenever I can with my girlfriends. Life is good! I refuse to change any…

Roasted veggies are the best. I started adding chopped beets and it makes it so colorful. Yams, brussel sprouts, onion, peppers and beets tossed in a bit of EVOO with pepper.

Do some reading on Aspartame (chemical poison) and that should help you to decide. Not sure what is in Coke Zero, but it makes me wonder. I gave up soda a few years ago, although I do have the occasional ginger ale when I'm sick. Old habits. I stick to my four major beverages...water, coffee, tea and wine.

I just signed up for a 6 week TRX program and did the intro session last night. It is a great full body workout. All of my muscle groups, particularly my core was worked. Ours is set up boot camp style, so it goes fast. Variation is good. Try it out!

So beautifully written. Thanks for keeping it real and being a positive part of my day. Rawrrrr!:flowerforyou:

Happy Birthday! You really are fabulous at 40!

Bump. Thank you!!!

This week my goals are to drop the 2.5 lbs. I gained over the long weekend of indulgence. -Ski 3 times -Skate 2 times -Eat as clean as possible.

It seems to affect me and I think it's all about balance. If I'm having anything high in sodium, I just make sure I drink more than enough water. It's not good for your heart either, so I figure it's worth cutting down on. Everything in moderation...

I learned alot from my 12 day cleanse. Most importantly, to keep an eye on that nasty sodium level. When you eat foods high in sodium, the body works hard to burn off all that salt and sugar and can't concentrate on burning off the fat. Lower your sodium and you should see better results. This has been the factor that I…

It's Thursday and I'm still on track with my cleanse. (1 more day!!) I definitely overshot my goals for the week and decided not to do 30 day shred this week in the mornings. The lower energy from the cleanse combined with how hard it is to get up after skiing the night before pretty much took that off the table. I should…

Great idea. Sometimes when we set our goals too long-term, it's easier to try harder 'next week'. Weekly goals are perfect. Since I am still getting over a nasty cold, I haven't been as active in the past week. Next week I will get back to business. *Get up with Jillian m-f for 30 day shred *Ski 3 evenings. *Skate 3 times…

I have similar issues. The only common denominator for me seems to be stress. I have eliminated dairy, limited gluten and sugar and have focused on eating clean as much as possible. Last night was the first bout of stomach pain I have had in weeks and it was right after a massage, which seemed to release all the stress…

I am just finishing up with stage 1. Did AMRAPs this morning, combining both A and B, just because I had the time and energy. I will do the same tomorrow and then take the weekend off before starting Stage 2. Still trying to get my head around the new exercises in preparation for next week. I am looking forward to some new…

I was happy to find this thread, as I believe that I have begun to have symptoms of IBS in the past few months. I have had the same bloating, and severe stomach pain a few times now, and I have been slowly eliminating things from my diet to see what my triggers are. It is not consistent, but anything like cream cheese or…

Me too! I still have a pair of 18's in the closet as a reminder of how far I have come. Bought 3 new pairs of 12's this past weekend and can't wait to trade them in for 10's!

B5 done today. Went up on deadlifts (to 80) and added some extra planks and push-ups at the end. I need to invest in some gloves for the weights. I know that I will lift alot more effectively with them. My goal this week is to actually ask someone at the gym to help me figure out the squat bar. I have been lifting light on…

For clarity, the two pant sizes has not been just from NROLFW, it's been mostly since I had been running in the summer, and joined a gym last month.
-
I also think I burn more on the lifting sessions. I feel so much better on my strength training days than my cardio workouts now. As far as the scales go, I am not stepping on them much at all. I am focusing on how my clothes fit and less on the number. Down two pant sizes in the past couple of months and the scales have…

Finished Stage 1- 5A this morning and I saw actual definition in my arms. Super excited about this! Can't wait to see how it looks at the end of stage 1. Two weeks to my first measurement/weigh in. Finally getting a handle on the protein increases and craving carbs a little less. I am so hungry most days, but finding…

I also look forward to working out at 5:30 a.m. If you are weird, than I am right there too. lol

glwerth: Push-ups are my nemesis. I find myself trying to do a few extra on my alternate days, just to improve my form. I do the modified (girl) style, but one day am hoping to do a traditional one. Most of the women I know, find pushups to be extremely challenging. I get down for the first few and then do the same as you,…

Not silly at all. I've only down A and B twice each, and I feel stronger too. It is amazing me how quickly my muscles are reacting. I am only deadlifting 60 and squatting 50 at this time, but will slowly build up. I really need to invest in some gloves today. Cardio for me tomorrow too.

Thanks ladies. I have opted to do cardio on my off days. I also did 10 minutes on the treadmill as a warm up for weights today. I feel better for it. Just did workout 1B for the first time and I loved it. Also, I spent a few extra minutes yesterday, after my elliptical workout on practicing the Prone Jackknife and I think…
