I find cooking food from scratch helps. I take satisfaction when I make a meal that tastes good and can say "I made that and I would pay good money for it in a restaurant!".

I think the bars are good if you don't have access to proper food for a prolonged period of time - effectively a stopgap. I work night shifts so I am asleep for x hours, wake, go the gym, work. If your target calories set by the site is 1700, eat 1700. If you are not losing weight try lowering it to 1500 or exercise more. You need to feel good whilst on this journey to maintain it - starving yourself on a 1200 cal diet is not going to be sustainable. Slow and steady wins the race.
