  • I weigh myself daily... I record them and take the average of the past 10 days to record here. Averaging takes out all the highs and lows from my daily diet, so you don't stress out over those 2 pounds you 'gained' over night, or get really excited about the pound you 'lost' after a hard workout. Perhaps a little too much…

  • Redneck at heart, stuck in Michigan... Hey y'all to ya!
  • I weigh in daily. I also take a 10 day average for my official weight. This takes into account the water I retain when I drink a lot or water because it's hot outside, or when I have a long run and am a little dehydrated. It is disappointing to look at the scale and say "I've gained a couple of pounds after eating healthy…
  • You don't have to run faster than the bear.... You have to run faster than your slowest friend!
  • I would eat a little something... It gets your metabolism fired up each time you eat. I'm not saying force yourself to eat, but a piece of fruit or something just to let your body know "Hey, there is an abundance of food out here and your don't have to hoard the calories for later" I'm not saying make it the biggest meal…
  • This week... 7/9 - 6.0 Miles 7/10 - 7.5 Miles 7/13 - 4.5 Miles 7/14 - 15.16 Miles Total for the Week: 33 Miles Total Miles for the Month: 61 Leg is feeling better... Ready to get back at it full steam!
  • Welcome Miguel... I have done a couple of halfs and am training for a full marathon in October of this year! Good luck to you!
  • For the week ending 7/7/12: 28.44 Miles Total for the week, Ran for 4:22:30 Total for July 28.44 Miles Figures when you sign up for a challenge, your body is gonna give you an additional challenge... Strained a calf muscle on Monday 7/2! It's feeling a little better now, but all my wiggle room is gone for the month...…
  • Definitely makes you fat... You can see all the distance runners in the olympics are WAAAAYYYYY out of control. Must be some really good spandex holding it all in because they look pretty damn fit and trim. In fact the group I run with are all a bunch of fit and trim looking people too. Come to think of it, I lost 70…
  • Because a new wife and Corvette for my mid life crisis is too expensive! Seriously- because I needed to get fit and give my body a break from the junk!
  • I don't feel guilty about eating things I know are not healthy choices. I look at what I eat, I log it and am aware that what I eat will get me closer to my goal or further from it. For example... Yesterday, I had a Big Mac for lunch (yes, it WAS GROSS!) - just sounded good to me at the time. I ate well the rest of the…
  • I thought it was the 'Right' side, not the wrong side... wait what is the left side if that is the 'Right' side? You Brits are so confusing... LOL!
  • For a 5k (3.1 Miles) - Eat a good breakfast a few hours before the race (5:30 - 6:30 or so) You really do not need carb loading for a short distance like this. For a Marathon (26.2 Miles), begin loading with carbs 2 days prior- clean carbs - whole grain pasta, whole wheat breads, etc. Also make sure you begin hydrating…
  • ^^^ Exactly! Happens all the time to me when I run... Run for a couple of hours, hydrate during and rehydrate after... Add a couple of pounds on the scale. Two days later, lose a couple plus a little more eating the same diet! Take an average of your weigh in (I do a 10 day average) to smooth out that line and see your…
  • Just pulled a number out of thin air! I am almost there and think just a couple lower will do the trick- I look and feel good to me, so I think I am there! It's not some number in a book or scale that the 'average' person should be- I'm AWESOME, not 'average' so I'm gonna be me! (and you should be you!)
  • Metallica- Aint my ***** Fuel Eminem- Lose Yourself Hollywood Undead- Levitate VanHalen (VanHagar)- Dreams Guns N Roses- You're Crazy Night Train Gary Allen (Gotta throw a country song in there...) Get off on the pain Just a few of the songs that keep me pumped up!
  • Awesome job Zara!! The time doesn't matter... The fact that you had the heart and will power to complete it is all that matters! Running (or walking, or fitness in general) is a very personal thing- a quest to see how far you can go, what your mind can make your body do! I am experimenting with my body as well! I hated…
  • Count me in! July Goal: 175 Miles Started strong with 11.5 this morning! Good Luck everyone!
  • After trashing my body for 44 years (especially the last 24), I want to be around for another 44 (or longer) and enjoy it! I don't want to have to go to the doctor every week or take medication every day, worry about having a heart attack or have to use a motorized cart to get around. I want to be fit and healthy- living a…

  • If you are 'gaining' 4 pounds over night it is NOT the calories, it is the liquid. I go out with my friends every Thursday night and drink about 8-10 glasses of Iced Tea and Water and get the same results. I spend the next week 'getting back down to my original weight'. The fat has to come from somewhere... 3500 calories…
  • It's freaking hot here.... I could eat a half gallon right now - no lie!!
  • I was drunk in a bar... Been married 20 years now with 2 kids! See- Alcohol can help people like me!
  • This- EXACTLY!! Don't freak out on the scale. Take an average of the past 10 days to get a good accurate reading on your progress! I have fluctuated as much as 7 pounds over 2 days- not physically possible to gain/lose that much fat over that time frame! (Unless you run 7 or 8 marathons back to back and survive!)
  • The color of your urine will also tell you if you are getting enough water... If it is clear to light yellow, you are probably getting enough water, however, if it is dark yellow you are losing more though sweat. A little sodium will help with water retention. I drink Powerade Zero post exercise to keep the sodium in (I…
  • I hit a plateau every 4-5 weeks... They generally last about 10 days or so. What I have found is that while the scale does not move, I can see and feel my body is re-configuring itself- i.e. lost inches, muscle tone, etc. Like the others are saying... eat healthy, eat enough (don't cheat on logging- log everything in…
  • Everyone is different and you will find your journey to be different as you go. Big chunks of loss, plateaus, toning- all that! Just trust in yourself and the system and it WILL happen!
  • You want to go slow... so your body has time to adjust to your new, healthy lifestyle. Your skin will shrink with your loss, your body will be used to receiving what it needs so it doesn't pack it back on when you reach your goal, you will feel healthy and energized, not deprived and craving! You CAN do it!! Go slow and…
