  • Dear Sweet Husband, I hate it that we are so far apart. I know you are worried that the kids will change or forget about you while you are overseas, but don't worry, that will never happen. I hope those that have their loved ones with them realize how lucky they are. I try not to think about your not being here when I go…
  • Dear Sweet Baby, I hope you learn to speak whole sentences soon so you can tell me what you want instead of throwing yourself in the floor and screaming while I try to figure it out. Love, Mama
  • Lisa are you doing a full marathon in May? I was actually thinking about doing a full some time next year. I felt pretty good training for the half and completing it this go around. I am really leary about running in the summer mississippi heat though, so I would probably do one in the fall after my husband gets back from…
  • hot pickles, I think anyone can join the group. Seems like we all kinda come and go depending on what we have coming up soon.
  • Wow lisa, you sure are dedicated to be running in the snow. I don't even want to get my shoes wet, ha ha. Seems like they never feel the same after. Anyway, are you planning on running any races any time soon? I am trying to keep up a moderate amount of running and 45 minutes at least on the cross train days. I am not…
  • I have a job interview tomorrow morning. wish me luck please...i really NEED to be working. Lisa Hope the interview went well Lisa. I am doing okay. I am kinda lost without my Half to train for. I am leary about doing anything in the cold weather though because I can't get the baby out in the cold weather in the stroller.…
  • Okay, I have been really down this week. Our church is doing some sort of big veteran's day thing next week, and I don't even know if I want to go. I guess I am just missing my other half. My kids keep me busy. I was training for a half marathon which I completed last weekend. I was in a great mood until that was done. Now…
  • i have the iphone 4 and am using the mapmyrun program for mapping out routes on my computer and for tracking my run. I walked 2 miles the other day on a course I know the distance of and it was almost exact, and I live out in the boonies. I used it during my half marathon recently and on several long runs and it worked…
  • i have always been a breakfast eater, but i also was hungry two hours later. I mean starving! I have found though that when i eat something with plenty of protein and fiber that i don't get so hungry. I am typically a 3 meal a day eater, but I think it is actually better to eat smaller meals. It gets your metabolism going…
  • Don't fret! If you have been exercising and watching your diet, the pounds will come off. Especially if you just have ten pounds to lose, it might come off a little slower. Did you weigh the same time of day in the same amount of clothing? Just weighing in the afternoon instead of the morning can add a couple pounds. I…
  • I don't believe you can spot reduce fat. It just comes off how it comes off unfortunately. Cardio exercise is the first step. You are on your way. Just keep moving, eating right, and losing weight, and the weight in your abdomen will come off eventually. You can work with some weights or do exercises to tone the muscle…
  • Lisa I know what you mean about not losing too much weight while training. Last time I think I might have gained a pound or two. This time I lost most of my weight beforehand and some during training. Sure makes running easier. Anyway, my jazz half in New Orleans went well. I was hoping toget 10 minute miles or better and…
  • amanda, sounds like you are doing great, although I don't know what DD or DS stand for. Guess that's my age showing, ha ha. Keep up the good work. Will your husband get any leave to see the baby once you deliver?
  • I know what you mean, about the feeling like the island part. I guess I do a lot of the same stuff than when he is home, but when you live in a place where you have no family then your husband is gone, it makes things even worse. We are a guard family, my husband is full time guard and took a position in a different state…
  • My husband is deployed right now to Afghanistan. It has only been 6 weeks and I am already depressed. I do good most days, but I can feel it sneaking in more and more lately. I have three kids, one is only 1 1/2 yrs old so they keep me busy. I do manage to get a workout in either when the baby is napping, or with the baby…
  • my half is next weekend, the 30th in New Orleans. Did a 5 k today at local fair. Ran pretty good for me. Got 4th in my age group. Really I think I got third, but then later when I went up to look at the boards someone had changed their time and put themselves ahead of me. It wasn't a huge race, but I think they might need…
  • Well got my last long run done today. Just ran around town, but there were a couple of pretty steep hills, luckily they weren't that long. My knee bothered me a little, so I kept running on the wrong side of the street in the quieter areas to balance out the strain on it. You know how the roads are slanted and you end up…
  • Well, did 5 miles today at 10:15 pace, pretty good considering I was pushing the baby in a stroller. I was tempted to get on the treadmill, but I really hate to do that when it is so nice outside, and I think the treadmill causes my legs to hurt sometimes. Maybe because varied movement is restriced, I don't know. Anyway,…
  • By the way, I eat "snacks" all the time. Maybe a small bag of chips one day, or a childsize icecream another. As long as that isn't the only kind of food you eat and you keep track of it in your journal, it shouldn't matter if you have an oreo everyday. Exercising also helps work off some of those "extra" calories.
  • I agree with Becky too. Sometimes, or a lot of times, people that have never had a problem with weight don't understand how some people can get to be sooo overweight. I think it is so easy to gain weight, and it is so sneaky, you wake up one day and wonder how did this happen and you cant just undo it overnight. It's not…
  • I think you do what your body can handle. I have seen people a lot heavier than me kick my but at runs before, so if your body (joints and heart and lungs) can handle it, go for it. Do start slow, walk and see how it goes, then when that is getting easier, add in some slow jogging. Hopefully as you lose weight you will…
  • Jennifer, great job with the running. By the way, if you want an easy way to cook a pot roast, just throw it in the crock pot, vegetables and all and cook on low for 8 hours and it will be tender and tasty when you are done. I like to brown mine first and throw in some soup mix, broth and a can of cream of mushroom soup,…
  • Jennifer, is the $45 due right up front? If not, then maybe you can do all three?! Just wondering. I think to pick up speed you should do speed work drills. I know the runnersworld.com training plan includes a day or two of it a week. I do one from the biggest loser book which can be modified for fitness levels. Good to do…
  • Wow, Lisa, I am sorry about your muscle cramp and digestive issues. I have also been having the runs, I'm not sure what from. I have been so tired the last couple of days and I am trying to keep plenty of fluid in and decrease my fiber, which feels odd. I think I am some better today, but this weekend was terrible. I hope…
  • Took a rest day Friday and I was up sick all night Friday night so I was so exhausted Saturday that I didn't do any work out. Oh well... I felt better sunday so I got my 5 miles in and walked a mile for cool down/warm up. I really think that running a lot on the treadmill is what makes my legs hurt more. Sometimes there's…
  • 10 miles today at a 10minute pace. Felt okay. Had a fuel belt on that kept bouncing around and distracting me. My legs feel tight today. Took a warm bath and might try some stretching and yoga later, we'll see. Have to work on my long run day next week so I might just do a quick shorter run before work that day and skip…
  • I only seem to have the problem when I run over 5 or 6 miles or when the really is really hot so it must at least be partially related to hydration. I have taken to eating a couple hours before I run which means I have to get up earlier, and drinking some water. This seems to help for during the run, but I find I am still…
  • ran 5 with a little interval training but averaged 9 minute mile for the 5 then had a half cool down and warm up walking. I was feelin kinda tired and had to run on the treadmill since I have the baby and didn't want to run with the stroller. Maybe tomorrow. Anyway, my stomach gave me a little fit last week after my long…
  • long run day for me. Up to 9 miles this week. Did it at a 9:35 pace. Wahoo! I was really tired on that last mile, but it's always easy to push a little harder when you're almost done eh. Anyway, better go get the lawn mowed before my energy wanes. Keep up the good work everyone.
  • 36 more miles since last post. New Group Total: 1132.36
