  • I have concept 2 for pat 2 year. i love the t, works great. It has computer program you can connect to(optional) to keep track of pace or have races online. Good motivator. I personally have been watching sculling scenery videos while rowing to help pass the time but good overall workout!
  • Ok, I want to be in the 150's by Easter, and it would be great to do my 10K on the 19th under 1 hour. We'll see how it goes and how hilly the course is!
  • So, are we going to set up a challenge or goal for April? I was thinking this might help motivate me a bit. Anyone with ideas?
  • I know what you mean the girls where I work are the same. It seems so easy for everybody to just say I'll just do better tomorrow and then tomorrow never comes. Sometimes I have to just take my lunch and leave my wallet in the car so I'm not tempted to order out when everybody gets talking about it. Just so much easier…
  • I need some accountability too, I just cant seem to stick with it this past 6-8 months and I have gotten to the number that I said I dont ever want to be above, HELP! I have 3-4 good days, than sabbotage myself. The only consolation I have is that I have still been exercising. Good thing or no telling where I would be! I…
  • I have to press start on the timer to get it to start reading my heart rate. I had an older version for several years and it finally went out. in order to reset the timer you have to be in the heart rate mode. press and hold the start/stop button for 2-3 seconds to stop the timer/workout. Then press and hold the reset…
  • I really feel sad when people go on fad diets, by eating shakes, or soups or grapefruit. Then they get all excited when they lose 7 pounds the first week. It will never last. I always tell people to make a change that they can live with for the rest of their lives. It has to be permanent or the weight will just come back,…
  • 1600 calories seems low for maintenence, but you may be a petite person. You may be underestimating the calories you burned, but I think you are right, eating a bit more and taking it easy will probably help. I have done that myself, had some good training times (for me) then gone through a period where I feel…
  • Mrs.Dalloway by Virginia Wolf. UGH! I got the idea, but it was sooooooo boooring! I think I got interested after watching the hours. One of the characters was supposed to be virginia wolf. It is like one big paragraph of what she is thinking and doing for a whole day or something. No chapters or anything. Just irritating.…
  • You've probably heard this before, but you can't spot reduce fat. If you want your belly to be leaner or some other area, then you just have to lose weight in general, and work on toning muscles while you are at it. Once any excess fatty tissue is gone, you will be able to see your lean waist that was hiding there all…
  • My husband just got back in August and I have gained some weight since. At first it was because he was home and I didn't want to get up and wake him up with the treadmill or elliptical on, or just didn't want to get up if I didn't have to. I am still having some trouble with that, but he is starting to want to work out as…
  • Man, my long run sucked today. I got going late, then seemed to take about 3 miles before I got anywhere near comfortable, or settled with my running. Then my car key is jiggling around the the shirt that I took off when I got hot is riding up on my waist and then at the halfway mark when I checked my distance I realized I…
  • congratulations everyone who had their races! Sounds like they went well. Mine is October 29th. I did an 11 mile run last week at 9:30 pace. Felt pretty good. We'll see if I can pick up the pace on race day. I have 4 weeks to go until race day. I am still unsure about my training schedule. I haven't planned any 10k's. I…
  • I have a belt and I tried it a couple times last year with one 8 oz water bottle, the flat king that come with the belt. It drove me nuts. I couldn't get the belt to stay put. If I tried to wear on my hips then it would ride up and start bouncing and if I wore it up high on my waist and tightened the straps, one it looked…
  • I am all for taking it slow and not running every single day. Since I have added more cross training, I have felt better without shin splints and tight muscles. I also walk plenty after a run, maybe a half mile or more just depends. I don't bother to carry fluids with me if I am just going 3 or 4 miles. I drink before and…
  • You will be fine. Your body was probably just tired from your busy week. I guess your half is next Saturday or two weeks? My longest run before my half last year was 11 miles and I did pretty good during the race. Of course I didn't break any records and I was fairly worn out at the end, ( I mean, I was spent for the last…
  • Katie - Great job on the 14 miler. I hope to be able to do that some day. Theresa- Good luck on your 10k. Almost to the half! Kated930- I think as long as you get your distance in, it doesn't matter where you do it. Mixing it up is probably better than just the treadmill alone. I know running outside is different than…
  • I did a 5 mile hilly run this morning. Suppose to be at race pace, but didn't get there. I ran a mile and walked 20-30 seconds today since I was on my home road this morning and know where the mile markers are. It was okay. I think the humidity and the hills caught me off guard. I mean those hills kicked my butt!!! When I…
  • Well, I did my pace run of 5 miles today and only managed 9:30 on the pace. It was incredibly humid and a very hilly course, but I was hoping to do better. I did do some speed work yesterday. I am resting tomorrow, crosstraining wed and will get a long run in some day this week. Maye Thursday, we'll see. That's when I try…
  • Ha ha. I hear you on that one. Southern Mississippi gets super hot and soooo humid it is hard to breath in late summer. I try to get out super early, but still...ugh. I end up on the treadmill a lot during the summer.
  • I think if it feels like anything other than muscle aches and pains I would contact your doctor, maybe an orthopedic physician. I am a nurse at a surgical center and the orthopedists are always saying if people would get checked out right away when they get injured it would be lots easier to fix than if they try to ignore…
  • I almost downloaded that one for a trip a month back. I will have to keep that in mind for my next trip.
  • I have listened to an audio book before, not for me at all. I need more distraction than that and prefer music, but I do watch TV sometimes and sometimes do without, but I seem to go slower without music. I did have a friend that swore by audiobooks, so it might work for you.
  • Good luck. I suppose your race is over by now, hope it went well.
  • I have to say that when one of the doctors where I work mentioned this method to me I thought it was like giving up. I have run off and on since I was a teenager and I always felt that if I had to walk during a run, that I had failed, or was out of shape. When he first talked about it to me, I didn't really plan on trying…
  • Well, I have done it for my long runs the past two weeks and I think I am digging it. Breaks the distance down so it doesn't seem so far. Last week I did close to the recommended run 5 min walk 35 seconds. It was okay, but felt like too much stop and go to me. My time was okay I guess. I did feel less tired at the end of…
  • I will have to remember that, ha ha. I haven't been stopping for 3 or 4 miles or less, but if it is more I think I will. I also think I will run a mile and stop at the water stations where everyone is slowing down anyway. I think the half I am doing they have stations at least every 2 miles.
  • Well did a 9 mile long run today and did a modified Jeff Galloway program. I ran 8 minutes and walked 45 seconds and I could reallly tell that I wasn't exhausted at the end of my run, tired mind you, but not totally spent. I think I might stick with it again next week. Plus I can kinda tell how far I am going by how many…
  • I know what you mean about the maternity leave. It's like you get into a habit of doing not much and eating whatever, plus it is hard to get into a routine because of baby related things. Birth control pill or the hormones in them may increase your appetite. I am currently experiencing this problem. I haven't been on the…
  • That's what I was thinking too. If you are going to run an 8 minute mile then running 4 min then walking 35sec then running again would put you either over 8 min miles or practially sprintining for 4 minutes, ha ha. We'll see. I might try it again on this week's long run. Also, are you supposed to do it on shorter runs too…
