  • Fasting blood sugar should be below 100 (70-99). Fasting blood sugar between 160-240 indicates real diabetes, not borderline diabetes. Go see your doctor. Or maybe find a new one.
  • I use these, too. They are wonderful. You can also buy them at The Container Store.
  • I was diagnosed several years ago. I have gotten much better. Be careful with exercise. Don't push yourself too hard or you'll trigger a flare. Do be active, though. Try to do some type of exercise every day, just be careful with increasing the amount and level of strenuousness. (A few years ago I thought I was all better.…
  • I love my Cuisinart. Crushes ice like a champ!
  • Laughing Cow is the only kind of reduced fat cheese which I like. It's magical. :)
  • I love cheese. No reason to cut it out, but do weigh it. Cheese is very calorie dense, so it is easy to eat too much and go over your calorie limit. (Big difference between a quarter cup and a half cup, from your example.) Fat free cheese is sort of yucky, though. Get the real stuff. Try sharp cheddar instead of mild. It…
  • People who don't get all that big despite eating boxes of cookies and entire pizzas because they don't do that every day. When I was in my 20s, I sometimes I went through phases of overeating like that, entire boxes of cookies in a sitting or an entire pie in a day. Yet I never got bigger than around 140-145 (size 8 on me,…
  • Belviq is contraindicated for people who take high blood pressure medication. I doubt your doctor will give you a prescription. I doubt the bp medication is your main problem, anyway.
  • Coma must not be common because it is not included in the official product insert which the FDA reviews. Same thing for increased hunger. No need to be fear mongering. http://www.belviq.com/documents/Belviq_Prescribing_information.pdf
  • I think I'd hold off and wait for more studies. Belviq is similar to fenfluramine which is the part of phen-fen that caused heart valve problems. Consumer Reports recommends against it: http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/news/2013/06/weight-loss-pill-belviq-is-now-available-but-we-say-skip-it/index.htm Also, from Time…
  • The picture on the right is of a yam. You probably won't see these too often, probably just in specialty international markets. I regularly shop in a gourmet grocery store and have never seen yams there. Sweet potatoes are not always orange. Some are white, some are yellow. True yams are white on the inside with a rough…
  • I don't think it's condescending. I've wondered the same thing. However, 200 is not really that high. When I started gaining in the early 2000s, I thought to myself never over 200. I ranged from 170-190 (sizes 10-12) during that time, occasionally getting very close to 200 (size 14). In 2005 I got to 210 and was horrified,…
  • Maybe it would be better for you to eat at maintenance level until your life has calmed down. I find weight loss to be next to impossible when there is a lot going on. I do well not to gain! So I think you should probably give yourself a break. Just concentrate on eating healthy, exercising, relaxing, and taking care of…
  • I don't wear shorts unless I'm strictly going to do the treadmill or elliptical. Anything else I wear spandex "yoga pants" (or shorts) because if I am going to be doing planks, downward dogs, squat thrusts, or anything else like that, I do not want my shorts to gap and hang so that people can see my underwear. Plus, loose…
  • Your slim hips seem to be throwing it off. Like I said, this calculator prefers slim hips.
  • I've wondered how these calculators work. I guess based on averages. So perhaps if your body type is less common, it is less accurate? (I have big boobs, too, but also large-ish hips and a comparatively small waist at 41-29-40.) I played with the numbers a bit and it seems that the calculator really prefers small hips…
  • Speaking for myself only, generally speaking, no I am not offended by men wearing spandex, but it depends on how tight the spandex is. I think most guys at my gym wear regular shorts on top of their compression garments, though.
  • This is one advantage to belonging to an expensive gym. It's more crowded than usual, but the increase is no where near where it usually is at the Y (where I used to go). When I was a member for the Y, I pretty much gave up on formal exercise during the month of January because of the crowds.
  • He wasn't particularly hot, but he was certainly very fit. I was probably the least fit person in the class. To make matters worse, we alternated (like I would do lunges across the room to him, then he'd do lunges across, and so forth). He was much faster than I was, so I had hardly any time to rest between exercises.…
  • LOL. I was in a similar situation once in a boot camp style class. I was about to die and wanted to leave but didn't dare because of the peer pressure. At the same time staying in the class was also embarrassing because the participants were paired and my partner was much more fit and athletic than I was! It was awful.…
  • I sometimes do videos at home, but I much prefer group classes at the gym. Does your gym have classes?
  • Losing one pound a week is great. I would be thrilled to have lost three pounds over the past three weeks. Plus, supposedly if you lose only one pound a week, you are less likely to lose muscle mass which is a good thing because muscle makes your body look better even if you're still overweight, and muscle burns…
  • I agree. If you're not truly ready to lose weight, you will fail and then feel bad about yourself. Instead, perhaps take some time to think about what you could change in your life that would help you be ready. Something is holding you back and either making you overeat or just preventing you from committing to a plan--…
  • Eat them as often as you want. Just count the calories. I encourage you to weigh avocados, though. The "medium" entries seem to be for small avocados. I have always considered myself good at eyeballing portion sizes, so when I first bought a scale I tested myself. My estimate was very close to correct except for avocados.…
  • Take on Me is one of my favorites for Zumba, too! I also like Pitbull for Zumba, especially Feel This Moment.

  • If you have enough steps, you'll see a calorie adjustment from Jawbone in your FP diary. You probably aren't moving enough to see it, frankly.
  • I am surprised that your doctor ran some tests, said everything was normal, and sent you on your merry way when you hadn't had your period in 8 months. Clearly, something is wrong (although not necessarily dangerous). Whatever is causing the loss of your period could also be causing or contributing to your frustrating…
  • Maybe some people think flagging a post is the same as "liking" a post? Or perhaps they think flagging it is like marking it to find again later? Never mind... I just started the flag process to see what happens. It is quite clear that flagging is to be used for improper posts.
  • The poster probably meant fried snap peas. I think I've seen them at Trader Joe's.
  • I have had problems like this in the past and it still re-surfaces from time to time. (I have been told I have fibromyalgia-- started with fatigue and insomnia and eventually also developed pain in knees, ankles, and elbows.) It's best to take it slowly so that you don't trigger a flare. You can push yourself a little, but…
