I am researching the H7 because my Polar FT80 malfunctions during extremely rigorous activity (Like hockey). How far does the bluetooth signal reach? Can you map your heartrate over time with zonal variation like with FlowLink software? It would be nice to get a review from a user rather than Polar

I also live in Minnesota and have converted part of my basement into a workout room. I find that the exercises working the best are bodyweight *Sit-ups, Burpees, push-ups and prisoner squats* If you are looking for a versatile tool for little investment and LOTS of youtube instruction, the kettlebell is worth looking into.

I also find the strength recording tedious in MFP. I started using my HRM and record the total burn under my cardio setting by naming the exercise as circuit training.

I have my bench, barbells, and curl bar in my basement. I rarely use them as I have migrated to mostly kettlebells, dumbells, and body weight exercises. My floor is covered with gym padding and the exercise area is 12X24.

12 rounds (3 Min) of hitting the heavy bag with circuits of body weight exercises in the minute between rounds. 60 minutes total with 1000 cals burned

I have been implementing kettlebells as a full body, circuit training 3 days a week for a few months now and have had great results. Here is a site that I have used to get started. A 10 pound bell is OK to start with while you gain the correct form. http://kettlebellworkouts.com/

I also made the jump to the HRM in early January because I was not experiencing the gains that I should have based on the MFP estimations. I purchased the FT80 and have found it to be very consistent in the calorie expended calculation. A great experiment is to track calories on your HRM while also tracking on the piece of…

I can identify with you and started MFP in December. My motivation was spurred by a severe infection that scared me into reality. This forum allows me to stay connected with like-minded people without any pressure. I have dropped more than 10 lb in 2 months and have significantly upped my fitness routines. Feel free to add…

I am too old and too much of a pacifist to get in the ring. I admire you for doing it. Boxing is the ultimate mano y mano test. Like I have stated before, my punching bag does not hit me back unless I get too lazy and stop moving my feet!

Welcome Ericka, There are only a few of us in this group but we are all passionate about throwing the leather...Tim

I have been using the FT80 and the computerized tracking of my workouts for a couple of months. 90% of my calorie burn is in Zone 3, Maximizing performance. If I try to use Zone 1 or 2, I get easily bored. I agree 100% with Eric (11:28 post) The best thing you can do is push yourself and you will notice change. If you aint…

Welcome to the group Daniel. I will love to hear some of your tips and experience, but since I am more than 2X your age I might need to scale it back a bit. Good luck on your journey back into the ring... Tim

For the future, feel free to use my name (Tim). The trkinsky came from my e-mail address when I registered with MFP.

Welcome to the group Kelli. I hit the bag 3-4 days a week. There is plenty of help here but with so few members I don't check it as often as I once did. You should add me to your friend list.

The only weighted vest I have ever carried is my golf bag! I am really interested in learning how you will use it because it sounds like a great motivator to remind the wearer of the amount of weight lost. Keep us posted.

When I first started my fitness push I was 40 lb over where I am today. I couldn't do many regular push-ups and needed to build strength. I didn't care which version I used as long as I was progressing and did not injure myself. Today I can do hundreds in a workout session. One thing to try is a push-up against a…

Your food diary looks pretty good to me, but I am also new to MFP. I had the opportunity to visit with a nutritionist before I started accurately tracking my calorie load and nutrition. A concern I see is that it looks as if you sometimes are not consuming enough calories, especially if you begin working out more. The key…

My mix is 45C,30P,25F but I just made the change to higher protein this week. It is really difficult to hit your protein goal, especially if you are working out a lot, without adding protein shakes or bars. What does your Doc say? I agree with another post that you should be great if you incorporate some strength training.…

You are starting in a GREAT spot. MFP is a great forum for these types of questions and answers. I find that muscle soreness is very motivating. It tells me that I did something beneficial to my health the day before. It is really easy to abstain from activity if you are sore, but this is actually counter productive. There…

The BCAA's (Branched Chain Amino Acids) are numerous. The Arginine is one of them the Citurlline is not. They are building blocks of proteins and are helpful in post workout recovery. Leucine, Isoleucine, and Valine are the most prevalent and are considered essential in the human body. Most of the BCAA's are not…

I also tried the creatine and stopped. The chocolate milk is a great workout supplement. I take the MegaMan Sport multivitamin. I guess the only other supplement I use is Glucosamine Chhondroitin. Everything else I get from my food.

I have a pair of Twins Special Muy Thai leather 16 OZ gloves, a pair of Everlast Protex2 16 OZ, A pair of Protex2 14OZ and a pair of Everlast leather heavy bag gloves 8 OZ. I use the Everlast 16OZ and the heavy bag gloves the most. I will use the 16OZ gloves on days where I also do strength work on my legs and back and the…

I spray the insides with Lysol once per week.

Prisoner squats are a body weight exercise, a squat done with your hands placed behind your head. I do these with my gloves on.

I use the GNC Amplified Wheybolic Extreme 60 (Someone need to speak with their marketing dept about the naming!). I usually cut back to 1.5 scoops and get 30g of protein and BCAA'c. I mix it with 8OZ of skim milk to improve the flavor and get an additional does of protein. I try not to take alot of supplements other than…

This is a great topic! I have the same callouses on my knuckles that you speak of, but in my research, I have heard that you shouldn't have bruising. Are you sure it isn't red from increased blood flow to the area? I use 180 inch cotton wraps and 16 OZ gloves for most of my work. When I get lazy or want to slip a quick…

Welcome Chris. This group has helped me with training tips and motivation. I have only been a member for a couple weeks. I have never boxed competitively but grew up with a brother who was 11 months younger than me and outweighed my by a few pounds. I hit the heavy bag for cardio and for stress release.

Add me too if you want. I only joined 3 weeks ago and find the site very motivating. I am happy to help with motivation if you need it as long as you return the favor!

I have a basic Polar (FT1) that only tracks duration and average heart rate for a workout. When I upgrade it will be to the FT60 or FT80 so I can automatically log my workouts on the Polar site.

I always try to get started with balance in the AM. Target some protein, fruit and or vegetable and whole grains. A couple of standbys I use are Sprouted Wheat toast (2 slices) with Peanut butter and 2 clementines. If I start with a protein shake I always add something with fiber. I usually mix the protein powder with skim…
