  • I'm gunna try this one: http://www.nerdfitness.com/blog/2009/12/09/beginner-body-weight-workout-burn-fat-build-muscle/# Maybe it'll be helpful for you too!
  • Cool thanks for the tips y'all! In feeling like there probably isn't just ONE way to a healthy lifestyle. Easy to get bogged down thinking there's only one way to go blargh. Maybe I should just focus in upping the veggies as you can't go wrong there :)
  • I think you're supposed to go by hours? I would say light, but make sure to net your bmr. Sound right to others? All that said, I'm not sure I've got the right activity level either!
  • This is great. I've been feeling down because I haven't been seeing the results I would like for as long as I've been trying at this, and I'm really starting to feel like if I can just start doing real resistance training, I'm gonna start seeing all the results I've wanted to see this whole time. I *think* that very soon I…
  • Exactly! I eat so much fat and carbs. Sometimes it worries me how much fat I eat, but the more I read the more I'm convinced that a calorie is just a calorie. Here's my favorite quote that's got me to stop fretting a bit over how much I eat in carbs and fat: "Perhaps the most important illusion is the belief that a calorie…
  • My fav way to eat lentils: http://www.theppk.com/2009/11/snobby-joes/ a sneaky way to eat chickpeas: http://www.theppk.com/2010/11/doublebatch-chickpea-cutlets/
  • You know I think for vegetarians getting to 30% protein might be a little unnecessary (not that I am at all qualified so you know others who know what they're talking about speak up). If you eat a bean it has protein, fat, and carbs! But obviously it's a great source of protein and we should totally eat them even if they…
  • Eating lots of protein can help repair muscle. Muscle is awesome because it burns calories even after a work out. Eating protein also helps curb hunger for me and helps me make better food decisions in the long run. As a vegetarian I try to have some protein in every meal. Try quinoa, beans of all kinds, peanut butter,…
  • I always want more EM2WL friends!
  • Hey we're pretty similar! My goal weight right now is 175, but in an ideal world it'd be lower. I'm just a little bit more sedentary and am currently saying I'm "light exercise" or whatever of 1-3 hours a week. I've been doing this for about a month and a little bit more. I know it seems like a lot of calories! I didn't…
  • Check out the group eat more to way less of you'd like. Basically we eat somewhere in between our BMR and below tdee for gradual sustainabl weight loss. Imbonly one month in but do far so good. Oh also you'll see folks who have slow metabolisms and are trying to set them back to normal by eating at their tdee level for a…
  • I tried doing it 5 days a week and started getting knee and back problems and stopped. But I really liked it it's a huge burn for very little time. Also I probably only got injured because I'm probably 50+ lbs overweight and really out of shape but I def want to start it up again if only every other day.
  • Anyone can feel free to add me too! In a bit over a month into em2wl
  • Yay! I'm approximately one month in too and finally weighed myself and I'm down two pounds :) and my skinny jeans are fitting better (even when right out of the dryer!) I haven't done any official measurements or anything but yeah if I could just keep losing 2lbs steadily each month I'll totally be happy :) yay for eat…
  • I'm in!
  • Just wanted to say that I felt reading NROLFW's diet/nutrition section really helpful. Super similar to eat more to weigh less, but it felt good to hear of some of the science behind the madness :) I also didn't really "get" why macros were important or how muscle is formed or anything before reading it. So if you're…
  • Obviously eating more fruits and veggies is great, but eating ONLY fruits and veggies, well I'm pretty skeptical. If you're interested in juicing, I would recommend watching Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead (it's an instant flick on Netflix). They recommend doing a juice detox for a period of time (aka not a lifestyle choice) and…
  • I recently started doing the 30 day shred and started having tons of weird minor injuries. I've since decided to take it easy and no weight as far as I can tell has been gained (but I'm not looking at the scales). I hope to get back into it but maybe every other day.
  • Hey I'm a vegetarian, sometimes eating vegan but since em2wl I've been eating more eggs and whey protein and cheese and meat replacements. I'm finally getting close to 30% protein but it's hard! I'm still slightly skeptical my body needs this much protein all the time but I think vamping it up while I try lose weight an…
  • Ha, I've decided not to have a scale in my apartment and so any time I weigh myself I'm doing it at my parents or a friend's house, lol, just like bsinno! I managed to only weigh myself once over the month. It was disappointing to weigh the same, but I'm getting some nsvs here and there and my energy is up so that's great.
  • As a new social worker here I just want to say that we can be wrong :) If your therapist isn't getting it, I would send her/him some links that have been helpful for you. If s/he doesn't get it after that, depending on how helpful this person is in other aspects of your life, I might encourage you to possibly seek a…
  • It's torture, but I feel way better not weighing myself. In order to know if EM2WL is working I have to actually think about how I FEEL health-wise, rather than what my scale is telling me which is difficult but rewarding. When I moved into my new apartment I actually chose not to bring a scale with me. So I can only weigh…
  • Maybe you could drink a protein shake or two while you're teaching?
  • I have it too. I haven't been doing eating more for long. So far no weight gains or losses to speak of just strength and feeling of overall better health which I think is totally worth it :) I just took out New Rules of Lifting for Women from the Library so I'm excited to see how that changes things. :)
  • FR sent! Any other em2wl folks are free to add me too!
  • These NSVs are so fantastic :) I really used to undervalue NSVs, but you know THESE ARE THE THINGS THAT MATTER :) Is it more important for the scale to say a digit that society has arbitrarily valued or for you to feel alive with energy and look fantastic? I think there is a clear winner. Super excited for you, congrats!
  • ohhhhhh I love lasagne :) ok... melty cheesey goodness, I can definitely get behind that. Thanks so much for all the tips everyone :)
