Try weighing daily using HappyScale or Libra to even out fluctuations. Otherwise even on a weekly basis it's hard to tell if you're gaining, losing, or maintaining. So you're a pound lower than your last week's weight on your weigh in day - so what? You can gain or lose up to 5 lbs in a day through waste and water changes.

There's no point losing that fast if you'll just gain it back. It's better to see slow results and KNOW you can keep it off than to lose fast and then struggle to maintain your loss.

Heel pain is likely plantar fascitis. See a podiatrist right away for exercises and possibly orthotics. Weight loss is unlikely to make a difference.

I have my own shelf in the pantry labelled "Mom's stuff, don't touch". And I label stuff in the fridge if I really want to have it later in the week. Everyone is trying to support my eating plan and they know what I'm doing and why. They have more options than I do (I'm the only one with a weight problem) so it seems…

Put the baby in the stroller and walk either before work or after dinner.

Save calories for nighttime snacking. I always eat something after dinner. You just have to work it into your budget. I like airpopped popcorn, yogurt and fruit, a light ice cream bar, or chocolate rice cakes. All yummy and under 100 cals. Another idea is to add more exercise. I got an exercise bike for the living room, so…

Lifting is great! You should absolutely keep doing it, especially since you love it. It will not interfere with weight loss unless it makes you so hungry that you eat a lot more. Depending on your program, you may not burn a lot of calories while strength training. There's usually some recovery time built in (waiting…

Your scale should have a tare, which lets you put a dish on the scale and then zero it out again. For example, I'd put my slice of bread on the scale, and then zero it. Then add peanut butter to the bread. Whatever weight it shows, that's the weight of the PB. If your scale doesn't have a tare, just do the math. If the…

Whoa, nastiest thread I've seen in a while. Anyway, on to the question: OP, if you focus on "what you can't have", you probably won't last long-term. As you pointed out, restriction of foods you love leads to binging. Feed the cravings. If you want a cheeseburger or fries, go ahead and have it. Log it and work it into your…

I definitely eat less during the day if I have a decent breakfast with some protein and not too many carbs. My go-to breakfast is 3 strips turkey bacon (75 cal), one poached egg (70 cal), and if I'm still hungry, a Source yogurt or a handful of berries (40 cal): total 145 - 180. The smoothie described here is not even…

Good question. I'm with lemurcat. I don't log stuff that's pretty consistent and very low-cal. I don't log water, diet soda, black coffee, splenda/sweetener, herbs, spices, mustard, vinegar, garlic, soy sauce, salt, baking powder. I use a LOT of veggies, so I track green veggies as "a cup of mixed veg" if it's just kale,…

It would be different if it were just "a friend" but since it's actually your "best friend", I'd say no. You are risking your friendship for a guy who's a known flake.

Do you mean calories eaten or net calories? Are you adding exercise calories to your goal and then "eating back"? It's very different if you mean that you eat 1500 per day and "exercise off" 500 than if you mean you really only eat 1000 per day. Your actual intake should average more than 1200 per day, and even that would…

I'd love to see more plus-sized models. It's hard to tell how clothing will look on me when it's only modeled by size 0 women. Do the clothes look good because they're nice clothes, or because she's so skinny? I'm sure the advertisers sell more clothes when they hang it on a very thin woman, so it's really just a marketing…

Sorry, "1335", not "1135". Doh!

You should learn to eat some vegetables. They're filling and full of fiber. Chop them up fine or blend them, and start with SMALL amounts. For example, you can throw a handful of kale, green onion, and celery in the blender with a few spoonfuls of ketchup. Blend it to a puree, and then add it to the ground meat you're…

That's just terrible. A scale is an instrument for measurement. Interpretation should be left up to the user.

Also - it's a personal choice, but if having her sleeping in your bed is impacting your ability to get quiet time in the mornings, you could consider moving her to her own bed/room. It sounds like you need some downtime, and being a mom is hard enough if you're not getting good sleep.

Some of these people clearly don't have children! Please don't use the treadmill with your toddler in the room. She will want to be near you and she is not capable of understanding that it's dangerous. The comments about "tell her there are rules" are not age-appropriate. You can work out at home ONLY when she sleeps or…

For $10/mo you can't go wrong. What's the worst that can happen? You could try walking outside first if you enjoy it, but I personally prefer to do cardio at the gym. I pay $50/mo at my community center gym, so PF sounds like a bargain to me. Definitely go a few times and see if you like it before you sign a contract. The…

So many stereotypes here. You can be homeless and have money. There are plenty of working homeless in the US. Some homeless people go to work, eat, play, take care of their kids, and work to improve themselves. I had a good friend who was homeless for years. He got plenty of temporary work and had a car. He stayed with…

It really depends on your goals. I'd say you're unlikely to be happy with your body if you only diet and don't exercise, but yoga, bodyweight exercises, and cardio are great for strength and muscle tone.

Brown rice has more arsenic, so I would avoid it and get your fiber elsewhere, especially if you prefer white rice overall. http://consumerreports.org/cro/magazine/2012/11/arsenic-in-your-food/index.htm

I hate most exercise, too. But the more you do it, the less you hate it. Think of it like going to school or going to work, it's just something you have to do. You'll definitely be happier with your body if you do some strength training. For calorie burning/to accelerate your loss you don't have to do anything really…

+1 for fitness goals. Got a big mountain near you? You could plan to hike it this summer. Or sign up for a 10k, or even a fitness/physique competition.

Absolutely horrible and the opposite of what we should be doing. Small sustainable changes that fit in with your lifestyle and lead to gradual weight loss.
-
Sorry, but I really want to know why. It's such a bizarre request given that OP clearly knows how to count and how to cook.
-
Low-carb is really effective (if you cut them back far enough to get into ketosis) but for most people not very sustainable. Zero carbs doesn't make sense, as it restricts too many vegetables etc. 10-20g/day might be more reasonable, as it'll let him get some variety in his diet but will still control hunger and avoid the…

When you report your calories, is that your TOTAL calories eaten? Or your NET calories (e.g. calories eaten - calories burned from running)? If it's your NET, then you're overestimating the burns from running, or you were underestimating the burns from walking. You're eating more now than you were when you were walking,…
