Wow! Great work!

Increasing my cadence to 170 has helped me a lot. At first, it was very awkward, especially at slower speeds. It's helped me land more under or behind my center of gravity and to run faster without a serious increase in effort. In fact, while keeping cadence steady, I can speed up just by relaxing, leaning forward slightly…

I actually have found the secret for making delicious beans. It's a recipe I found that's actually called "delicious beans:" http://crockingirls.com/recipes/delicious-beans/ The key is the bacon, brown sugar, garlic, cumin combination. It's actually pretty good even without the cumin.

^This. I've only run one and I started out way too fast. I ended up crashing and burning. The last 5 or 6 miles were agony. I wanted to give up running forever. I felt like a failure at the end. It was several weeks before I felt like I had accomplished something by finishing, which should have been my goal from the…

Fantastic work!

I ended up with 1183.5 in 2013, which I think is just a few more than last year.
-
I haven't made my goal on one of these spreadsheets yet! I'll try lowering it to 100 for January and see if I can do that.
-
I'm always looking for more running friends! Feel free to add me.

Eat more: nuts, nut butters, cheese and other calorie-dense foods. Lift weights: I'm sure other people can give you better advice about this. Be patient: as you get older, your testoterone level will increase and it will become easier for you to build muscle.

43.4 for the week, taking me to 79.4 for the month. Over halfway to my goal with half the month gone. I'm pretty happy with that. With almost 100 miles scheduled for the rest of the month, I might even beat my biggest month yet.
-
Back in school, we used to convince an ex-gymnast friend to do drunk back-flips (after significantly more than 3 or 4).
-
32 miles for the week, 36 so far this month.

In for 150!

I haven't registered for anything yet, but I'm basically planning a 5K every month from March through September. 4 of them are part of a Beer Run series called Race the Bar (March, May, September, November). I've run some of these before. Each one has a longer option, too. I've run the 8K and the 10K, but I plan on…

You could also start with body-weight exercises (push-ups, pull-ups, etc.) if the gym intimidates you. Of course, if you can afford a personal trainer, a good one could help you get comfortable in the gym pretty quickly.

You might be at a place where you would be happier trying to gain some weight. Have you had your body fat percentage tested? The recommendations I've read are to cycle between 10 and 15% body fat. You look like you might be close to that range. There are plenty of people on here that could give you good advice about…

I think this is the most important thing! If you do most (or all) of your runs at a pace that is enjoyable to you and slowly build your mileage, the fitness increase will come. You'll get faster without even trying to. If this is your first marathon, finishing might be enough of a goal. I ran my first one last year.…

Years ago, I needed surgery because I played soccer after injuring my knee by tripping and falling while running. It might have been okay if I had rested it until it was healed, but I tore my meniscus during the game. Definitely don't run until you get it checked out by a sports medicine specialist, even if you take some…

The Injinji socks work great with the 5 fingers, especially if you do get your feet wet, since they wick very well. When it was sub-freezing, though, I still lost the feeling in my toes, but was okay as long as I stayed dry.

Great time! I hope you're enjoying Thanksgiving!

Here's the blog post about my race: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/tappae/view/triple-lakes-trail-race-40-miler-race-report-584360 I think the most surprising thing about how sore I am is that I wasn't sore at all after my 26.5 mile run 3 week ago.

Great mileage! With my ultra finished, I'm going to take about 3 weeks off completely. There's a 5K to benefit a former coworker who is battling breast cancer on the 26th and I'm probably going to do that, plus a couple of runs beforehand to loosen up.
-
Thanks, everybody! It was a lot harder than I expected! I thought I could probably finish in 9 or 10 hours and ended up around 10:20. There was a 12 hour cut-off, so I still beat that by an hour and a half. Of the 64 that started, 14 were not able to finish and only 4 finished behind me, and 2 of those got age group…

I'm going to agree with the folks that are saying that there are too many variables to make a linear relationship. Still, an individual with the same level of fitness will be able to run faster with fat loss because there's less of them to move. That said, I set PRs at every distance this year while gaining 20 pounds (of…

In for 50, but I'm taking a few weeks off after my race on Saturday.
-
Amazing! I can't maintain that pace for 100 meters.
-
The first time I placed in my age group on a 10K, it was because a bunch of folks that beat me had registered for the 5K and were disqualified.
-
Huge improvement! Great job!
