What is a "Smith Machine"? *zing* Good job, mate. Even on the smith it translates into brute strength! Plus when doing overheads, and protecting your shoulders, smith is the way to go if you're going to do big weights.

Willow Grove originally but now Singapore.

Used to have an 07 Audi S4 and an 06 Hayabusa in the states... but now the only thing I drive is my wife crazy. :-) We're able to live without a car in Singapore and, well, cars here are insanely expensive. Cost of Entitlement, basically a permit to buy a car, alone is SGD$80k and the cars are even more expensive. Take a…

Some of my coworkers are complete jerk offs about any thing that doesn't involve drinking or being an idiot. Like it is such a problem if i like to eat boiled egg whites for a snack instead of whatever ****e they eat.

Namaste means good day and is a sign of respect. I'll let it slide since animals pics crack me up. :-)

I love the strategy placed on your progress. You weren't trying to loose the most weight possible and were happy to sit in maintenance mode for a bit. Congratulations and you look wonderful!

Downtown: Jack and diet coke Midtown: Seagrams and diet seven up Uptown: Martini; extra dirty.

Try adding more color to your meals: fresh greens, yams, carrots, etc. Reducing carbs sucks at first but later on you feel amazing.

"I'm afraid I'll put five pounds on if I weigh myself once a week".... you do realize that is 17,500 calories or 32.5 Big Macs. Weigh yourself at the same time every week under the same conditions. I do mine first thing Friday morning after making a trip to bathroom (hey, every little bit helps).

Control what you put in your mouth and the rest will be solved. In college it is hard to do because there will always someone up for a beer, a pizza or both. In college you have plenty of time to cook, work out and be conscience of what you put in your body regardless of class load or part-time job.

Agreed. I need to get back on these and make it so walking home from the gym is painfully difficult.

I view myself as an unfinished project that will never be completed, can always be improved and is currently in need of downsizing. :-) Just remember it is never too late to learn something new, challenge yourself physically or positively influence the people in your life.

Whenever I get the urge. Of course, there are consequences in that I can't eat as much the rest of the day and feel like *kitten* for the rest of the day. Of course, I rarely have the urge to eat it.

Have you seen him? He is a midget / small person / dwarf. Range of motion FTW!

Scoot yourself back on the bench further to unrack and bring the bar down closer to your sternum. Most people end up going too heavy with bad form and end up straining their shoulders. My general opinion is to just avoid it.

I've only ever been a fan of a close handed grip when benching and, at times, I only concentrate on white knuckles! Position -> Grip -> Rip. Don't give the weight time to psych you out. Specially when doing dumbells. The harder I squeeze.... the weights just magically move!

I think people who sit on unemployment checks for two years are more of a problem to America than Paula Deen.

Holy cripes! This thread proved one thing: Teachers CANNOT take criticism.

Cliff notes: More protein > less protein. It promotes muscle growth and keeps you feeling full for a longer amount of time. MFP is great as a guide but for anyone working out you really can't get enough protein. Like others I shoot for 200+ grams a day and maybe more if I had a really hard workout.

Question for the Commentariat: When benching I usually keep my pinkie fingers on the ring which, for someone with long arms, doesn't allow me to get the range of motion that top benchers get. Part of my 2012 fitness resolution is to work my way into a wider bench position, index fingers over the rings, and bring the bar…

I wasn't going to comment on this topic because I'm pretty strongly opinionated. Unions were created in the 1890's to protect uneducated workers from being taken advantage of by company higher-ups. Now that we've come 120+ years into the future and America has moved away from being an industrial and manufacturing country…

Advertising has led people to believe that some ab machine purchased from Kmart is going to miraculously make your mid-section strong and toned. By working large muscle groups and calling upon your core to stabilize it ends up giving them a good workout. Additional upside: you're burning insane amounts of calories doing…

It appears we have more in common than a screen name moniker! Good stuff... wish we had people in Singapore that had the same mentality as you and I.

When moving big weights I've struck bloody noses and bloody shins in the gym before but I don't drop weights and rarely make loud noises. Silent confidence and focus goes a long way.

I love them but only when they're really warm!

Resistance training has also show to help with arthritis. Do some more research online and see what works for you. You'll end up surprising yourself!

Pizza is like a bad relationship.

p.s. this is by far my favorite thread so far! Talking strategy, goals, different lifts and no egos. Win!

In my fittest I weighed 273 pounds, benched 435, inclined 390, squatted 560, deadlifted 600+ a few times, cleaned 325 and could still get a sub-30 minute 5k on a treadmill. Do I think any of those are elite? No. When considering I was 273 pounds I consider it even less elite. Go on youtube and you'll see people doing 600+…

Squats, deadlifts, cleans. Practice good form and start light. It'll all come around.
