In my experience, eating to lose is way different than eating to maintain. Several years ago I lost about 40 pounds (which I've kept off) by counting/restricting calories. Once I leveled out at my goal weight, I was able to start eating pretty normally again without having to count calories at all. I know everybody is…

sugar is addictive in the sense that the more you consume it on a regular basis, the more you crave it and feel like you need it just to feel "normal." this is a fact. also, i've never heard anybody say "i'm addicted to sugar, therefore i'm giving up on losing weight. i'm addicted and always will be, brb gotta go eat two…

Wow, good timing. I'm in EXACTLY the same boat as you, except my issue is anxiety as well as depression. I understand how frustrating it can be...the idea that the only "cure" out there might cause you to gain weight is disheartening. Like you, a lot of my symptoms revolve around body image issues. I decided to try…

You can do it. Weight loss is more of a mental journey than a physical one. Make a promise to yourself that you will make choices, every day, that will get you to your goal.

Are you sure you're really burning that many extra calories from exercise?

I lost about 40 pounds in high school. I think the funniest comments I got were from my friends who were STILL skinnier than me, saying "oh my god you are getting too thin!" Like, really?? Back off b*tches!

First of all, if you're having a problem trusting the scale then you should find out if it's working properly. Leave the scale in the same spot and then step on it a few different times. Does the number keep changing? Then your scale is probably broken. I ONLY weigh myself in the morning before I have eaten anything. I…

I think a lot of people overestimate how many calories they burn through exercise and/or underestimate the number of calories they are eating. BE CAREFUL when eating back calories. I divide my workout cals in half just to be safe.

I lost 40 pounds in one year back in high school and I guzzled diet coke the whole time. It won't necessarily make you gain weight. (I kept it off, by the way, my MFP tracker reflects my current goals on top of what I have lost already). Having said that, I urge you to stop drinking diet soda as soon as possible. It's…

Spices, fresh lemon/lime juice, and mustard. Sometimes if I do a little snacking (like a handful of popcorn here or a couple almonds there) I do an estimated log. I usually try to overestimate snacking calories just in case, since those can be the most dangerous!

You can ABSOLUTELY lose weight with a restricted diet only. Now, is getting no physical exercise good for you? Not so much. Unless you live an active lifestyle where you're walking around/on your feet a lot during the day. Sounds like you have a busy schedule so perhaps you're getting a lot of walking in?

I definitely have to sit the first couple days out, but after that I can usually handle light exercise. My advice is to listen to your body. If it needs rest, then rest. Not exercising for a couple days will not ruin your diet. Just make sure to adjust your calories.

Fact: the more sugar you eat, the more you will crave it. Fact: the less sugar you eat, the less you will crave it. Cut down on sugar and your cravings will eventually go down, BIG TIME. I used to have a huge sweet tooth and it's pretty much gone because I decided to dramatically cut down. A little while after I cut down,…

Are you not getting full on 1600? 1800?
-
Eliminating carbs is absolutely not necessary. Cutting down on carbs, though, will make your life a lot easier. It'll force you to eat more protein, which will make you feel more full, which will keep you happier and more satisfied during your weight loss. Having said that, when you get to the point where you are avoiding…

I hate when people say it's impossible to reduce the appearance of cellulite. Yes, some cellulite might be unavoidable, especially at a certain age. But you can definitely improve it, especially if you're still young. #1 ELIMINATE SUGAR FROM YOUR DIET. #2 Tone up in your trouble areas with resistance training. #3 Try to…

We all have different natural proportions. Personally, I lose all my weight in my legs and stomach and no matter how thin I get, my arms will probably always be proportionally bigger. It's very unfortunate. Be thankful for your thin limbs. Also, you might want to consider eating more protein in your diet and less fruit?…

I do think you should give yourself the option to eat them back if you're hungry. Especially if you are given a 1,200 calorie a day limit like many users are, because that limit is borderline anorexic. Having said that, though, make sure you don't overestimate how many cals you are burning. Personally, I usually split the…

The bad stuff you're talking about is what happens when you starve yourself and don't exercise. You are DEFINITELY not starving yourself. And you are DEFINITELY exercising. A lot. MFP is a great tool, but you have to realize that so many people out there, for better or worse, don't eat back exercise cals. The difference…

25 yr old skinny fat girl here. I've seen a significant improvement in the last week that I've been using MFP. Even though I stay within the calorie limitations, I feel like I'm eating just as much (if not more) than I used to because I'm no longer trying to starve myself. I exercise every day, alternating between stair…

I get the same anxiety a lot. It helps to take a step back and look at the picture, and realize that our bodies are not going to last forever. They are slowly deteriorating as we get older, and no matter how much you limit your diet, nothing is going to stop that from eventually happening. I know that might sound very…

Sounds frustrating! Are you doing more resistance training than usual? You could be gaining muscle... another thing to consider is that you might be miscounting your calories, but if you say you're very strict with logging everything then that's probably not the case. Just a thought.
-
I'm the same way. It's almost like a compulsion. I'd recommend not hanging out near the kitchen, because it makes snacking way too convenient. You could also try distracting yourself with beverages other than water. Sparkling water, tea, apple juice (I dilute with water), etc. Also finding something to do with your hands…

I'm on my last 10 pounds too!! It's so hard to budge the scale! I've heard that once you reach this plateau, it's important to do resistance training in order to regain some of the muscle you probably lost through weight loss. The more muscle you have, the more calories your body burns at rest. I don't know about you, but…
