I've never lost that much, but yes, I have a friend who lost quite a lot and rapidly by undereating. He wasn't obese, he is a young male, and he started having horrible abdominal pains. Docs couldn't figure it out because none of them would even check his gallbladder because he was thin, male, and under 30. Took them a…

I'm not going to say you should not eat back exercise calories, because I'm not an expert. But when you go to a TDEE calculator, it asks you your level of exercise and adds that in, does it not? So, if your TDEE is 2515 exercising 3-5 days a week (which yours is, so sayeth fitnessfrog), and you're eating 1600 calories,…

When you say "typically" eat 1600 calories a day, what does that mean? Does that mean you say eff it all one day a week and eat whatever you want? Or does it mean you log 1800 or 1200 some days? Do you log every single thing you eat? Also, how long have you been at it?

I don't drink very much right now. Sometimes I'll save some calories for a big fun night, but that's very rare. If doing cocktails, I stick to rum/diet coke. Other times, light beer and red wine. Light beers run around 90ish calories per 12 oz. Red wine is about 100ish calories for a glass, depending on type. I don't…

Starvation mode is literally something else, people. If you want to say you can eat too few calories to see progress in the gym, just say that. Starvation mode is what happens to your body when you are literally dying. Eating 1300 calories and then working out? Nope, not dying.

I'm sedentary, I do a light workout 3x a week at home, and eat 1000-1200 most days. I lose approximately as much weight as you would expect for my age, gender, and size. When I plateau it's because I've gone drinking, not because I've "starved" myself into some mysterious "ate too little to lose weight" hole. All of my…

Skinny Cow 150 cal cups - strawberry cheesecake :) Quaker breakfast cookies - 180 cals Mini packs of nerd candies - 60 cals Though I gotta say, after avoiding sugar for a while, I find cottage cheese packs more satisfying. I still can't get enough sweet iced tea, though.

Hehehe. Puns.

I started by using my gym membership and while I'm ok doing cardio there, the machines fill up quickly, there's no guarantee I get a machine, and I'm too self conscious to lift around other people (I'm small and VERY weak and frumpy! lol) So I started doing a jumping jacks, prisoner squats, push ups, arm rows, planks…

This is why dieters just need to find what works for them and adjust as needed instead of getting all up in arms when people don't agree. We're all the same species, but that doesn't mean a diet method is going to work universally, ever. If eating more than MFP recommends works for you, do it. If restricting works better,…

For whatever reason, I prefer eating a small breakfast or skipping it. Whenever I eat anything over 200-300 calories, I find I just want to eat all day. Who knows what's going on there, but I do a lot better if I wait a couple of hours after waking up, have a small amount of fruit, wait a couple hours, and eat something…

I do it and it works just fine (as long as I'm an honest logger). I don't have much problem with it, though it's hard for the first couple of weeks because your body is used to overeating and it will make you suffer for depriving it. You get used to it though and you continue to lose. I'm very short, so I'll do 1000-1200…

Adequate daily micro-nutrition scales with size just like caloric needs do. Why would someone a foot shorter than someone else need the same amount of iron or vitamin D? Stick to a balanced diet, should be fine.

I'm 5'0", 129 pounds. BMI of 25.3, pants size 8, shirt size Sm-Med depending on fit and brand.

Proud of your recovery! Congratulations on the hard work, keep at it! :) There is nothing wrong with wanting to eat healthy food instead of a bacon and fried egg sandwich, and your mom is probably understandably nervous that your diet may turn into a relapse. So maybe the trick is to talk seriously with her that you're…

Can't help but notice all that sodium. That'll cause you to retain water. I suggest cutting down, though I'm not one to talk. XD

Please don't read my post as pro-anorexia, because it wasn't. Anorexia is a debilitating mental illness, NOT a diet taken to extremes (though, sure, it might start that way for some). It was just evidence to show the misinformed that yes, eating too little still results in losing weight. It was not meant to say that this…

I'm on synthroid as well, and I lose pretty slowly. Just keep your chin up, keep your calorie deficit going, and don't look back. If you don't make the change, the weight will never come off by itself. I have weeks where I lose 2 pounds and weeks where I lose .2-.5. I maintained for about a month. Don't give yourself "high…

Best way to start a fight on the internet: Forget politics and religion, talk about your opinions on losing weight. 1) Should she eat more? Maybe. Probably. 2) Will she lose weight eating the way she is? Obviously yes. The biggest myth I see on these boards is that you can eat too little to lose any weight. As a general…

Agreed. More protein!!

WebMD has the most useful things to say about metabolism: http://www.webmd.com/fitness-exercise/guide/make-most-your-metabolism While I can't speak to eating more calories to lose weight (I have *always* gained eating 1500+, so maybe it just doesn't apply to me), I can speak to eating more often helping the process. I like…

I think if someone creates a profile on a fitness site fitted with many tools for the purpose of using those tools to further their disease, there are two things at play here: 1) Yes, it is totally their business. They are sick and need help, but it's not for me to judge or call them out because what the hell does it have…

I usually claim that I'm full, just had a lot of food, am really busy, gave it up for Lent or something, really hate chocolate (lol), and then thank them and if it applies, I ask where the leftovers are gonna be so that maybe I can grab a little later (and then never do it). Sometimes they ask if I got any. I say, yes, it…

I wear cheap yoga pants and wrinkly old t-shirts. It's comfortable. I'm already disliking being at the gym, so I don't feel the need to wear something I'm going to feel self-conscious in (and I will feel self-conscious at ANY weight/level of fitness). I don't have any beef with ladies that "dress up" to workout. Whatever…

I loved reading her story. I'm not too interested personally in getting ripped or being strong, but she made it seem so cool I might change my mind XD

http://www.bodyrecomposition.com/fat-loss/you-are-not-different.html It's true that our bodies have subtle differences. Metabolisms are slower or faster. But these differences are subtle. You just can't eat less than you burn and not lose weight. Usually the culprit when you're not losing weight is missed logs. It is SO…

"Too skinny" is merely when you're below 10% body fat (as a woman) and your weight is now threatening your overall health. FYI, you can't always tell that by whether or not bones are sticking out anywhere. My boyfriend is naturally very thin (he's a workaholic and often doesn't remember meals--I do my best to remind him).…

I was plateauing for about a month and a half. I thought I was doing great. 900-1100 calories (I am short, btw). The problem in my case was that I was allowing myself to not log calories and "eyeball it" on weekends. I would ESTIMATE 1200 cals. The thing is, I'm a bad estimator. Most people are. I sat down and did the math…

I've always been more interested in video games than sports, still am. I love carby foods, junk foods, sugar, you name it. I can gain weight faster than a body builder if I don't count calories and pay attention and work at it. So here I am. Working a little cardio and strength training into my sedentary life and eating…

This definitely happens for me as well. After a couple of weeks of eating less than normal, I find that I get uncomfortably full if I regress at all.
