A trainer is great if you can afford it, just get referrals for one who WILL push you like you need to be pushed, and whose personality will mesh well with yours. You can also try group exercise classes - you may be less likely to let up and will push harder if there are other people in the room with you, and where it will…

Yes, train on hills, and since you say up and down a ski slope, train on hills at elevation. It makes a huge difference, but then again, I'm in Colorado so we start at 10,000 ft and go up a ski slope from there!

The getting it done isn't a big deal. It's just like getting your ears pierced, they pull your nipple and run a needle through it, then put the jewelry in. It's the after care that's the pain in the butt. It takes like 6 to 9 months to heal, and you should soak it in salt water to help keep it clean while it heals. Some…

This is awesome - love it! Could be because I agree with you, but... :)

As for recording "Spiking", why worry about adding exercise in to offset it? Just eat what you're going to eat and record it in your journal. Yes, it's going to be RED, because you will have gone over your allotted calories. The reason I say this is because if it doesn't work for you, or something isn't working, you have a…

You'll always find something contradictory to what you "know" or think you know on the internet. Sometimes what we know is accurate and scientific, and sometimes it isn't. Sometimes it's what works for us based on our body and how it deals with certain foods. Remember for a long time eggs were bad for us, and we weren't…

How completely have you dealt with the eating disorder? It's going to be very difficult to do this if you aren't healthy mentally. I would really suggest lifting weights and exercising, and forget about the scale. Your profile says you want to love your body - exercise can help with that...if you push yourself and see your…

This....if you're sick, forget about the weight loss, lay-off the exercise and rest, and feed your body so you can get well then get on with it. Look at this holistically and not one day, or one week even if you're feeling that bad. Just get better.

This type if thread, with the respectful, scientific discussion is awesome! Far better than a lot of the other posts here :) thanks for posting!

Exactly! If you eating a well balanced diet keeps you in homeostasis, thus not overtaxing your body. http://drbenkim.com/ph-body-blood-foods-acid-alkaline.htm

I've been married almost 10 years. Until I quit my job to go back to school last year, I made more money and I carried all of our benefits and retirement (I had a well paying job!). Now, I barely make enough to cover my tuition and car payment. We have a joint account that ALL the money goes into, then he has a separate…

Because I'm in school for this, here are some references. There is a place for both. Chandler, T.J. & Brown, L.E. (2010). Conditioning for Strength and Human Performance. Philadelphia, PA: Lipponcott Williams & Wilkins, Wolters Kluwer. Heyward, V. (2010). Advanced fitness assessment and exercise prescription. 6th ed.…

THANK YOU for posting your experience! It's for this reason, and it's a VERY common occurrence, that I go crazy about so many sites pushing iodine on thyroid patients. I believe the iodine is what caused my thyroid storm as well. Most people do get enough iodine in our diets and don't need to supplement.

AWESOME! That's part of what this whole journey is about - being able to do the things we NEED to do and feeling better about ourselves :) What a great NSV

This is a great article with a program attached. Check it out: http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/womans_lean_sexy_bible.htm

Yeah, that's what I was talking about which makes measuring before a little difficult :) It's amazing how it shrinks!

Another reason her calorie count is higher than what some of you are used to seeing is because of her CW. Like she said, she has a 100 lbs. to lose, and CW is 325. That is why her calories are higher. The more one weighs, the more calories you need to feed your body, and she is still at a deficit. Hmmmm.....How long have…

^^^This. When I make something, I put all the ingredients into the recipe so it calculates the total. If my husband and I are splitting it and eating the whole of what I made, then it's 2 servings. If I'm baking something and I portion it out into 4 or 6 pastry bowls, then it's 4 or 6 servings each. I made a casserole, and…

It doesn't matter. It all scene out in the end. I'd record it on today, so that you're tracking is accurate. If you're at a severe deficit, plan to eat more routinely earlier in the day if you workout at night. Otherwise, just log it today, and it gives you some room tomorrow. Tho.k big picture - look at the week as a…

I was also just looking at the Link. I'm curious of it's accuracy - do either of you who have it use it with a Polar HRM strap? I saw that all of them can measure HR with the Polar strap which I would think would give you a more accurate reading than just the heat/body sensors. I'd hate to get one and still be using my…

I don't have this issue, but you might try chamois creme like cyclists use to prevent friction issues in the saddle.

Yes, it is! But for maximum benefits strive to get cardio in for at least 10 minutes, better if you can do 20 at a time. As for strength training, intermittent is fine - do the push ups and tricep dips for 5 mins, then do some squats and lunges an hour later, some crunches next, etc. Can you put the toddler in a strolled…

Wow! Congratulations! You look awesome. I wouldn't know what to say if people dis that to me. Probably snap and tell them thanks for the concern, but I'm very conscious about what I eat and I've got it under control. Keep smiling and keep at it!

No, and he's always weighed more than me, by 40-60 lbs. He's about 4 inches taller than me, and we have similar builds - kinda athletic. However, he currently weighs 22 lbs. less than my highest ever weight - but when I weighed that, he was still 40 lbs heavier than me.

Wait a minute - you just beat cervical cancer 7 months ago, and now you're having super heavy periods and pain and the doctor can't see you for a month???!!?! I'm sorry, but, WTF?!? Have you called your oncologist? Given your past medical history, you should see someone right away. That's BS to make you wait a month.…

I have read that iodine supplements should only be taken if you're actually iodine deficient. If you're not deficient and you take it, and can cause your thyroid to shut down even more. And I echo the sentiment about combination treatment. I take synthroid and armour and I feel much better with the addition if the armour.

Yay for you for bumping up the calories. How long ago did you do this? I wouldn't panic about not being hungry just yet. Give it a couple of weeks and see what happens with the weight loss. Seriously, a couple of weeks. Things dont happen over night (loss or gain). Also, exercise can suppress your appetite, so adding that…

The same thing happened to me. I'm sure that the first 6 or 7 pounds was a lot of water weight since I cut out almost all processed foods and started cooking everything from scratch with just whole fruits, veggies and meats. I really cut the sodium and what not out, and I'm certain that is what led to that rapid loss.…

You're welcome. I understand that fear. But you do still need to feed your body. As long as your calorie count is in check, it's ok to add up to that point. Good luck to you, and congrats on making the change!
