  • Hmmm....You might have convinced me to try it again. I, too, have Hashis, workout like mad, and even counting every single calorie that goes in I gain. I do love my carbs, and with the amount of cardio I do (I'm a group ex instructor and cyclist, too!) I felt I needed them to get me through the day. Perhaps it's time to…

  • If you have access to a gym, use an arm cycle. Good luck and wishing you a speedy recovery!
  • Yep. I have Hashimoto's and have been on medication for 12 years. It's a pain in the butt to get weight to come off - it's all I can do to not gain weight. First and foremost, get a doctor that will listen to you and work with you to get you feeling good and healthy. Being on combination therapy is a god send for me - when…
  • Swimming is a great exercise! It tones and helps build your Cardio vascular endurance. If you're burning more calories than you're eating, you'll lose weight. And correct about bone density - since it's non weight bearing, it doesn't help with that, but neither does cycling (and cycling is my sport!)
  • Mine is open, and i'm pretty creative with food, so feel free to check it out. I also eat quite a bit, but as a fitness instructor, I need to! I'm not looking for accountability - I hold myself accountable and do what I need to for me, but you're welcome to check out the food.
  • Lots of great advice here! I work in a bike shop, so here's my $.02 :) Absolutely go to a bike shop - staff is knowledgeable and the bikes are of better quality and put together properly. Most offer a basic fit when you purchase your bike, as well as a tune up after 100-200 miles to tighten up the cables that stretch…
  • Absolutely! I totally agree with you. I never post a random "Great job!" when people come in under their calorie goal for the day - if I have time, I'll check out their diary first then post. And I rarely "complete entry" for the day on my diary because I think it's completely shallow for the superficial "Great jobs" that…
  • Yes, this is not enough calories. We're not even talking about eating exercises calories. oatmeal and ceviche is not enough calories on any given day. Strive to reach a minimum of 1200 calories a day. Looking at your food journal for today, you're arent eating enough. You'll stall your weight loss and slow your metabolism…
  • Fatigue Weakness Weight gain or increased difficulty losing weight Coarse, dry hair Dry, rough pale skin Hair loss Cold intolerance (you can't tolerate cold temperatures like those around you) Muscle cramps and frequent muscle aches Constipation Depression Irritability Memory loss Abnormal menstrual cycles Decreased libido…
  • Yes, I'm on both synthroid and armour for my thyroid. If you have a thyroid problem, you need to be on hormone therapy. It's certain.ly a pain in butt getting regulated on the proper dosage and type or combo of hormones, but it needs to be done. You'll only get worse if you don't. Took a good 3 years and going to the Dr's…
  • Holy smokes! I haven't heard of this before. That's super crazy, but makes sense. I'm curious to go back and check my prior labs from when I got really sick - was totally stressed, and my TSH shot up even medicated - I wonder what my RT3 was at that time with all the stress and what not....
  • Exactly - that's the most absurd thing I've ever heard. That's also why kids are growing up sheltered and don't know how to do anything because parents do it all for them, and "protect" them. Kids aren't allowed to go out and learn right from wrong, or how to judge situations, or even how to have fun. It's sad, really.
  • Exactly! Anymore you hear people telling their kids to be quite and go upstairs and play video games. We rode our bikes to school when I was a kid, ran around outside playing hide and seek or riding horses or skateboards with all the other neighborhood kids. My folks only allowed us to watch one hour of TV a day, and we…
  • I have to agree with your wife! My husband thinks he's excessively hairy, but he isn't - an average amount of chest hair. I don't want that shaved chest because when it starts to grow back, the last thing I want is a giant, prickly brillow pad against me! If you naturally have no chest hair, that's fine, too. Go with what…
  • Any weight you lose will help to improve your health from what it is now, absolutely! :) PCOS and the thyroid certainly don't help and make it even more difficult. I have Hashimoto's myself, and find I have to track every single calorie I consume and burn in order to even stand a chance of losing weight because of my…
  • With what you've been through this year, I'd say give it some time. I think you're on track with upping the calories given your stats. For those saying it's too high, at her height/weight, 1500 probably WAS too few of calories. 2000 is more reasonable. She "gets it" that her calories will go down as she loses. But back to…
  • I'm another one who doesn't eat if I work out first thing in the morning. I take medication that has to be taken on an empty stomach first thing, too, so if I ate, I would have to get up early to eat and go back to bed, or not work out until later which I can't do. When it's early, my workouts are usually only an hour…
  • I don't buy it. Eat before you go grocery shopping, and only buy good stuff. If you don't have easy access to bad stuff, you're less likely to eat it. Don't keep it in the house :)
  • If you're logging everything regularly you are WAY under, not a bit. You need to eat more. Eating so little will not work and will harm you far more than occasionally eating "junk".
  • HUH??? I've never hear of this. What is the name of this ailment and what have doctors said?? As for caloric burn for zumba, as someone else said, every body is different. I wear a HRM and I do burn between 650 - 750 calories in an hour long class - I'm sure my lack of coordination and frivolous movements add to my burn! I…
  • I agree with tecallahan. Calipers are the way to go. Hydrostatic weighing is the most accurate, but far to expensive for the average person. Your monitor is fine, too, to use to track change in %BF. Make sure that you do it at the same time of day, same time of month for us women, that you're hydrated, not after you've…

  • So sorry to hear how horrible you're feeling. I know I could feel my body spirally out of control when my TSH hit 4, and my doctor at the time told me that was "within normal ranges". In 3 months, while on Synthroid, it raged to 58! I switched doctors who tested me for Hashi's and confirmed I have it. We started a 2 year…
  • Met in August 2000 - I was 25, he was 32. Engaged a year later in September 2011 Married May 2002 Will celebrate our 10 year anniversary this May
  • Your diary isn't public so we can't see it....
  • Do you mean like mixing the egg whites into the oatmeal? I eat an egg with oatmeal almost every morning for breakfast, but side by side....
