  • Great motivation!!! We all have days like that but we continue to stick it out.
  • Get a heart monitor if you can. That is the only way to really know what you are burning.
  • Squats and lunges are great for legs. I agree that muscle looks great and sexy. That is what I am going for - Erin Stern is my motivation. She is a fitness competitor. Anywho, look up Oxygen magazine online. They can give you some great tips on lifting to get great muscle.
  • I have a HRM and when I do Zumba, I get between 600 - 800 depending on how hard I dance. However I move alot so I usually go towards the higher end of the spectrum. I agree with the previous post - get a heart rate monitor if you can. Takes the guessing out of calorie burns.
  • I too work an office job. I have a couple of suggestions that may help. One is to not keep food at your desk. If your office has a kitchen, keep all your food in there. If you are in an office building and not on the first floor - take the stairs. For your lunch - leave the office and go for a short walk - even if it is…
  • I have only see it on the IPhones. My Blackberry doesn't have that capability and I have the Torch. :grumble: LOL
  • When I use my HRM, I go by that instead of the machine. My HRM is set to my age, weight, sex and height. Most machines don't have all of those settings so they are giving a general calories burned totals. Remember guys burn more calories by default so the machines may be taking an average between men and women.
  • You can hurt yourself by going the "trial and error" route. Proper form is key to lifting - the heavier weight will come with time. I lift - heavy at times - and I love it. "Oxygen" is a great lifting magazine. It not only gives you ides on how to lift, it also gives great motivation because the models look great. Check…
  • I wouldn't necessarily go by just how your body feels. Having heart issues is something that should be taken seriously - as I do. While a doctor would be better suited answering this question, I have found information here that might help you. http://www.buzzle.com/articles/high-heart-rate-during-exercise.html
  • My "wake-up" moment was in 2010 when I was trying on snow pants to spend a family day at the ski slope. I needed a new pair because I couldn't fit into my old ones. In the changing room, my daughter said "Mommy, you got huge legs". I was already feeling crappy because I was trying on men size Large snow pants because the…
  • My goal for the day is a 1500 calories base and half of my exercise calories. It can be hard to do that at times but I try to make sure I get 1200 net (food - exercise) every day. I don't feel like I am hungry through out the day as well because I spread it out over 5 small meals.
  • Since you have the time to work out on the weekends - walking, running, other home exercises, etc. - I would focus on strength training for your days at work. My routine is set-up in two week time frames. It is a Monday, Wednesday & Friday workout of upper body/ lower body / upper body for one week and then lower body /…
  • I am going to try this for the Super Bowl. It looks wonderful. If you are going to someone's house, maybe bring this instead and still get your hot wing fix. http://www.skinnytaste.com/2010/02/lighter-buffalo-chicken-dip.html
  • I take the One a Day women's vitamins. I do it because I know I don't get all the nutrients that I need from my food - like calcium, vitamin D, and others. I was advised to take them from my OB/GYN.
  • My suggestion would be to get all the bad food out of your house but I saw that you did that. I don't have any big tips but my suggestion is to clean your teeth. I am talking brush, floss and mouthwash. Then after you do that keep yourself busy somehow like cleaning, exercising, take a shower or going for a walk. I hope…
  • You cannot spot reduce a certain part of your body unfortunately. However if you eat right and workout, your body will pull fat from everywhere. I disagree with the first poster that said cardio only and no strength training though as I do strength training. However, I understand that the body that I want is not what…
  • I reviewed your diary and yes you need to eat. You only consumed around 800 calories and you worked out today. I never eat anything below 1200 calories net - ever - and I have lost 21 pounds since Sept. You need to fuel your body.
  • My suggestion would be to substitute them if you can or portion control. I like pizza and pasta as well and I still want to enjoy them. So I make sure I portion out what I am going to eat. I also don't eat it very often. As for the substitution, a friend of mine uses Miracle Noodle. I haven't tried it because it can be a…
  • Have you thought about making your own bread? I want to do this as I know many people who have their own bread makers. You can control what ingredients go into it. i don't know of any low cal breads as I try to limit my bread intake.

  • I would increase your calorie intake and switch up your workouts. My husband does around 40 minutes to an hour of strength training and then does about 30 minutes of cardio. And he doesn't do cardio after every workout. He strength trains for 4 days and does cardio on 1 or 2 of those days. Mens bodies are very different…
  • I worry about this as well as I have a two kids. I try to emphasis the "healty living" part. I try to include them when I can in exercising. They ride their bikes while I run. For my food, I explain that I want to be healthy so I can be around for them. Instead of rewarding them with food (which is what I was given as a…
  • I like pistachios for snacks.
  • Cyrstal Light is good. You may also look at Kraft Mio water flavoring drops. I know several people who use those.
  • Yes it can be shocking. When I splurge - it is a splurge. I am talking bacon, cheeseburgers and fries and dessert - maybe even appetizers. That is a huge wreck to my diet so I try not to do it often.
  • Friends can suck at times. My husband, sister and gym friends are my support. I wouldn't worry about their tone - you are doing what you need to do. Maybe they are just jealous.
  • After a splurge, it takes me about 4 to 5 days to lose the weight I gained. Sodium really affects me - not just my weight but my heart as well, I have high blood pressure. Give it time and make sure you are drinking enough water. Also (TMI alert) if you haven't had a bowel movement - as sometime that food can clog you - it…
  • BUMP - interested as well.
  • I recommend skinnytaste.com as well. I made a Sante Fe Chicken in a crock pot from the website and loved it. Tonight I am trying a new dish that is an Asian Chicken in lettuce wrap - looks great.
  • I love Greek yogurt. It has a good amount of protein and it is dairy. I prefer Chobani but I have seen some people recommend Fage.
