Sometimes I think 'motivation' is overrated. Motivation is like lust: it only lasts so long, and then you have to depend on friendship and shared common goals and values to make a relationship work. I'm trying to think of me and my body working together towards the shared goal of being healthier. I'm tired of not liking my…

The Couch to 5K program is great - I love it, even though I've never been a runner before! There are lots of folks here doing that program, so you will have lots of support :) I really like the Robert Ullrey podcasts to run along to, especially for the first six weeks. Be well!

I never knew to use barley that way - thanks!
-
Congratulations! I run my first timed 5K next month, and my goal is to run the whole way. I have a feeling my time will be a lot longer than 35 minutes though - probably more like 55! But as long as I finish, I will be glad :)
-
I find it helpful to log what I'm planning to eat before I actually eat it - then I can avoid nasty surprises!
-
It's amazing what doing a little extra adds up to, isn't it! Good for you! I've been doing C25K as well and I can now run 45 minutes at once - the problem is that's still not 5k! Oh well, I will get there eventually!

It's good you're working with your doctor about it :) I would be inclined to wait and see if your body adjusts itself now that you're off that other pill, but that's just me. It sounds like you're doing a lot of research yourself into the matter, which is great!

Would you consider making your diary public so people could give you feedback on that first? Taking weight loss pills really isn't a sustainable option in the long run, in my opinion. I notice you just joined MFP in July of this year - maybe it would be better to give it a bit more time before going to a fairly drastic…

Good to know - thanks for posting this.

Oh ya, there's nothing like a good smoothie for healthy satisfaction! I make one with chocolate soy milk, frozen banana, ice and cocoa that I really like.

Oatmeal! I add some raisins and/or some other dried fruit (saskatoons at the moment) and a little brown sugar or maple syrup, and I'm good for almost four hours on 3/4ths of a cup, cooked. And I make it with water, not milk. Tasty and very filling!

Ya, I definitely don't include activities that are just part of what I do every day - I think that would be better reflected in the activity level chosen when setting our goals (i.e., sedentary, lightly active, active, etc.). Then I just add in stuff that's over and above, like a whole afternoon of gardening or being on my…

There are quite a few things in the cardio sections that are handy - gardening and cooking are in there too! I usually only add these into my exercise totals if I am doing a fair amount of sustained activity though, otherwise I think I might be overestimating my calories burned.

Wow, how exciting! Congratulations!

Congratulations! You look wonderful and from your pictures and posts, it's obvious you feel wonderful too! Thanks for sharing your pictures and being such an inspiration to us all!!

Oh yes, I know olive oil is a good fat, and I won't be cutting it out entirely, that's for sure. I enjoy it too much. I was just quite amazed at how much of the 'greek' flavor was retained by using just the vinegar by itself. :)

I put TVP (textured vegetable protein) in my chili and I use it my spaghetti sauce as well. :)

I totally agree. There's no way I'm going to be able to do this forever if I don't let my self have some of the yummy things I enjoy every now and then. The key is to do what you did, reduce the portion size and log it! Then you can adjust exercise or other foods to compensate and just move on. I will sometimes even…

20-40 minutes, 5-6 times a week. I doubt I will ever be a person who works out for hours on end, so I adjust my calories accordingly.

Hello and welcome! This is a great place with lots of supportive people. :) We're all in this together.

Fantastic! Keep up the great work!

Thanks for posting this! I'm doing my best to take a stand against consumer culture (i.e., that the purpose of life is to consume) and this article really tells it like it is!

Frozen grapes are delicious!! I went through a period of time where I couldn't get enough carrots. It was weird, but eventually it went away on its own. The grape thing probably will too, and freezing them should slow down the rate at which you eat them, I would think. Since they take longer to eat when they're frozen, and…

Very helpful info - thanks all!

I would also like some advice on breathing while running - mine seems so erratic! (Partly because I am a very new runner, and because I still have a lot of work to do on my fitness level....)
-
Lori, I've said it before and I'll say it again: you are a total inspiration woman! Like someone said already, you look completely at ease in your running stuff - ready for anything!! I have watched you from the beginning just doing the right things in the right way - eating proper portions of good stuff, treating yourself…

I eat the whole egg too. I'd rather eat fewer eggs overall than throw out the yolk. The yolk ain't cheap to the chicken, that's for sure.

What a great idea to substitute cabbage for pasta! I made cooked red cabbage today, with apples and cloves - also very yummy :)
-
I like a nice cup of sage and lemon tea with honey :)

I love lentil soup! I add a few chopped dried apricots too, which is also very yummy :)
