Hello there from another slow runner! It looks like 16 minute miles is the equivalent to 3.75 miles per hour (I googled, didn't calculate it myself so I hope that's right!), which means you could just enter your activity as walking at that speed. That might be a bit of an underestimate, but that's better than an…

I would like to join as well please :) And no worries, metalenergy, Buddhism is not a religion and it's one of the most skeptical, practical and empirical philosophies out there, so there will be no koolaid-drinking. But some green tea would be nice ;)

I'm finding it challenging as well; it's been about six months at maintenance so far. But I more and more I think of it not so much as maintenance, but just that this is my life now. I don't so much think of it as something I have to do for the rest of my life, just that this IS my life: I eat less; I eat better; I…

That is so wonderful! Good for you! I think I cried after going my first 5K distance, and shouted (in my head at least) - take that mean high school girls! Try and keep up with me now!

I think the general rule of thumb is to dress as though it was 15 degrees warmer (10 degrees if we're talking Celcius). That way you're chilly at first but just right mid-run. Seems to work for me anyway!

Alberta runner here. I find the shoe spikes work really well, better than yak trax because they can also handle ice, not just snow. It gets down to -40C here, although I don't run outside when it goes below about -20C. As long as my ears, fingers and feet are warm enough, I'm fine! I'm hoping to try the running snowshoes…

I most definitely do say please and thank you! Good karma all around, no matter what the recipient's actions are (or aren't!) :)

Strengthening my glute medius has made a world of difference to my hips and knees! Just a few minutes a day of exercises from my physiotherapist helped me run pain free within a few weeks. I good physio can really help, and in the meantime you can get a lot of info from google/youtube for exercises you can start practicing…

I run in the Vibram Bikilas about twice a week, and I'm going to do my first 5K race in them next weekend! I just love them and find that they do really help strengthen my feet and correct my form. I would agree that you need to get them tighter rather than looser - I wish I had bought mine a half size smaller because they…

"Oh no! I think I'm going to cry. I just went to register for the race, and it's sold out!" Oh that is too bad! Some of the popular races do sell out quickly. Is there another one you can register for in the new year? Just think how fast you will be by then!!

I will often run with just one of the earbuds in - best of both worlds.

I lost what it said or more. I logged religiously and measured meticulously.

Funny how people assume sickness rather than health, hey? Certainly goes to show how upside-down things have become. I usually respond with something along the lines of, "No, I feel better than I ever have!"

Running shoes or vibrams, depending on the day. Running skirt, with or without leggings, depending on the temperature and mosquito quotient. Sports bra, technical shirt. Ipod/earbuds with armband, loaded with Nike+ app and lots of running songs. Heart rate monitor, although I'm trying to be less dependent on this. Ball cap…

I have found the DoctorMama blog really encouraging and fun for new runners. www.doctormama.blogspot.com I think. She also stresses running slowly at first so you can build up your strength, and to run for time, not distance. The shutupandrun.com blog is also hilarious and very motivating. The more I run the more I love…

Yes, I weigh and measure and I've been doing this for over a year now. At first I did it with everything and after a while I got better at eyeballing what a portion was, but I still weigh and measure regularly now to make sure I'm still accurate. I think you have to know how much you're really eating so you can stare the…

You ARE already doing it! It is already real!

I would just start with what's available around you: walk up and down stairs, walk around the block (by yourself or with your cute doggie if you're in a safe area), do some sit ups and push ups and stretches - nothing fancy is required! Stand more instead of sitting. LIke a previous poster said, using soup cans for weights…

Ha! Good one!

I heard a great quote the other day: No matter how slowly you run, you're doing laps around the person still on the couch! So good for you for getting out there! Just move your body forward one step at a time - you will be amazed at what it can do given half a chance!! I am a slow runner and probably always will be, by…

Well done!!! And the "loose wait" is priceless!!!

Yup, persistence in the same direction is the way to go! Incremental stuff each day, not monumental effort now and then, are the words I try to live by!!

I am 5 ft 4 in and my *goal* weight was 135! I realize we are not all the same body type, etc, but it sounds like you are quite a healthy weight already?

Can you politely remind her of what she agreed to and then suggest alternatives? Perhaps you could meet family and friends at non-food venues like a park or the museum? Even if you were to go to coffee/tea shops instead of restaurants then you could just have a light beverage while others do their snacking... All the best…

Excellent! Keep up the great work!
