I really try to weigh and measure things pretty regularly. I find I err on the side of more when I don't! I've got a few Tbsp and Tsp measures, and my measuring cups are pretty much always out. A little digital scale has also helped a lot with things like cheese, which is one of my main weaknesses!

Is it a pasta and sauce kind of dish? Because then I would make lots of the sauce to freeze, and make the pasta fresh each time :)

Outside is my favorite place to meditate, but sometimes the mosquitoes are too much! :)

I know! Isn't it great! Welcome and enjoy. There are lots of good people here :)

Oh wow, there are more meditators around than I thought! Cool! I have only been doing it for about a year or so, but I have found that it does really help me just face things and ride them out (be they cravings, stress, uncomfortable emotions, etc.) rather than ignore them. I do the silent meditation mostly, athough do…

I've had this happen too, in the past. When I'm sort of sad I eat, but when I'm really sad I have no appetite and no desire to cook or be in the kitchen at all. Sending you lots of positive energy while you go through this tough time!

Wow - all your hard work has sure paid off! Your pictures are very inspiring and so is what you said after the pictures - gave me goosebumps! The confidence shining out of those pictures is amazing too!

I am vegetarian but want to get closer to veganism, so I would also be interested in yummy recipes and such! I must say that the 'cheese' sauce recipe on the back of the Bob's Red Mill nutritional yeast package is delicious!

Adeanie - I think the freedom of the math works both ways. :) If your numbers just aren't adding up, then bumping up the calories per item like misspenny says would help balance your calorie budget. One thing my sister (goal30lori) said to me when she first started MFP has really stuck with me and it's that it's all about…

Iron deficiency can really do a number on your motivation and your moods. I had to have a blood transfusion last year because my hemoglobin was so low. My brain was filled with negativity all the time, and I felt like I had no "reserves" to draw on, mentally or physically. I had no idea this was all related to iron at the…

Good tips! I have recently begun veggie gardenning and I helps stretch the budget, definitely. And the good taste and no preservatives are awesome as well!

I've been looking for more ways to eat dried beans and this looks delicious - thanks!

I don't have any advice, but I can relate to your feeling of discord with your body. Lately I've been making progress at working with my body instead of against it, and treating it as a friend instead of an enemy. In short I'm trying to be kinder to myself, and part of that kindness is to accept my body how it is at every…

That's great! I like donuts a lot too, but I'm really starting to dislike the aftertaste of regret! Good for you for going for the healthier choice :)

I'd like to know what crosstraining is too. I am completely new to this whole exercising on purpose thing!
-
Good for you! Very inspiring too :)

My work has casual Fridays as well so I put on my jeans this morning too! I have more room around my knees and they don't dig into my waist nearly as much. A little work yet to get rid of the muffin top entirely, but the progress is nice to see and feel. :)

This is all very useful info - thanks everyone! I do take an iron supplement along with Vit C every day, and I don't go for the meat substitutes too often because of the GMO and estrogen issues in the soy. I will have to up my bean intake - those seem good for both iron and protein, and I will definitely try the Quinoa -…

Thanks so much - all those suggestions are really helpful!

Welcome! There are lots of supportive people here to help you as you work towards your goal!

I would go with your first calculation and just divide it in half. This happens to me when I only drink half my tea, but what I do is just save the other half and then warm it up in the microwave later when I want tea again. But maybe that doesn't work so well for coffee, since it wouldn't be 'fresh' any more....:)

Yum - that looks very tasty alright!!

I will join too, even though I also live in Alberta, Canada :) My current weight is 170.5

Hello and welcome :) I am very new to this site as well, and have found people here to be very supportive and generous - you are in a good place! About the tiredness, it might be worthwhile to have your iron or hemoglobin levels checked. I was super tired for years and would beat myself up about it, calling myself lazy,…

What a great story and terrific accomplishment!

I also vote for popcorn! It is a lifesaver for me when I just need to have more than a few bites of something.
-
Actually, that is totally my thing, and that is the book I have been considering getting. The little bit I've read out of it at the bookstore makes complete sense to me!

Thanks so much everyone for the warm welcome! I will certainly follow up by checking out that book and blog :)
