  • I don't read labels but I do my best to avoid bread and pasta. This makes a big difference. Milk and cheese also bother me, but not yogurt.
  • I needed to hear this today. Well said!
  • Carb grams minus fiber grams are equal to net carbs. If I eat 200 carbs, and they have a value of 30 grams of fiber, 200 - 30 = 170 net carbs. I feel better and it has been easier for me to meet my goals if my net carbs are less than 150 a day, so I glance at the calculation.
  • I don't think most food has the nutritional levels that it did 100 years ago. I think that my body doesn't get enough micro nutrients, especially when I eat at a deficit. From my personal research over the years, I believe that nutrition is very important and helps the body to function properly. Overweight is not healthy…

  • MFP gives me awareness of what I am eating. If I want food to be a joyful or emotional experience today, it can be. I just track it. If I want food to be fuel, it can be. I just track it. If I want to have a binge on whatever appeals to me, MFP allows me to easliy understand how much damage this will do for a day or two,…
  • Garden of Life raw protein powder. It doesn't give me tummy problems like whey.
  • I gave up wishing I had an active and healthy life. Now I HAVE an active and healthy life!
  • Using a product like Ensure would give you added nutrition. Seeking advice from a nutritionist might be wise with the restrictions you have.
  • congratulations! You are training your tastebuds to enjoy healthy food. Sorry, it doesn't get better. It just gets saltier and also more cloyingly sweet (many deserts), as well as tasting like chemicals (soda) and nasty grease (fried foods). Enjoy it... It makes eating out less attractive. Ask lots of questions and for…
  • the egg would act as a binding agent so most likely these would not set up without the egg. I don't think a banana would be a good replacement for an egg. Egg whites alone would probably work. The bad news: There is no way that one tablespoon of this mixture is only 35 calories. It is basically baked peanut butter with…
  • apple juice might help
  • I don't have anything new to add, just to say that you are not alone in a nightmarish daily schedule. Fitness in a 24-hour day takes committent and prioriizing. Something has to go, you simply don't have time for everything. You must also learn to be flexible and take advantage of the time that you have, not the time you…
  • Working out any time and in any way is not cheating. Eating whatever you want isn't cheating either. It is simply a food choice. There are no rules aboout weighing yourself. The scale is not lord and master.
  • If your BF were allergic to produce and yogurt would it stop you from bringing it into the house? Would you put it under lock and key in the fridge, or only eat it away from home? Not meaning to come across as argumentative here. Just food for thought. The world is full of less than optimal choices. For me it comes down to…
  • My experience is that the easiest way to stay full on a smaller amount of calories is to focus on lean proteins and vegetables for your meals and cut out refined carbs, bread, pasta. Don't drink your calories. Think about meals and snacks in the 100-350 calorie range. I am 5'2" and eat 1300-1500 but can easily stay within…
  • i usually average 120-150 carbs a day feel free to add me if you like
  • Use a food scale and log everything on MFP
  • I think there are a lot of factors on whether it goes away completely. I had a c-section 20 years ago but didn't really have baby weight to lose afterwards and I healed flat. Next baby two years later was without a c-section and I had 15 pounds to lose afterwards, the original scar pulled and caused a teeny tiny "flap" as…
  • MFP is just guidelines. You can do your own research and manually set your macros to reflect what suits you best. That is what I did. I also manually set my calories.
  • I am 47 and have lost 15 pounds in the last six months, down to the last 5% of body fat to burn off now. I expect it will be slow but hope to get there by summer. Success has come from better workouts (less cardio, more weights), more protein, and higher calories. I weigh what I did 10 years ago, which was healthy and slim.
  • I have a lot of the same issues with whey. I use Garden of Life Raw Protein. I get it at the health food store. A little more expensive, a bit odd to get used to the taste (I use the original flavor and have never tried the vanilla or chocolate) but no gastric issues for me.
  • Bruising can cause temporary swelling. If the inch appears with using a measuring tape, you may not be measuring in the exact place. That's my two cents. Hope you heal fast!
  • If it were me, I would find a picture of someone looking the way I hope to look, wearing something I would like to wear, and put that on my wall or fridge for motivation, not purchase an item of clothing hoping it will look the same on my new body as it did in my head. I have used an old piece of clothing that I want to…
  • My food scale is digital, made by Polder. I got it at Costco and it seems it was around $20. The features that I like are that I can switch easliy from grams to ounces and it has a tare feature to zero out the dish weight.
  • First, congratulations on changing your lifestyle habits to make a positive change in your life! Measure the results you want. If a lower weight on the scale is what you are after, pay attention to that. If you want better abs or stronger muscles, use a tape measure and record your sets and weight lifting gains. If you…
  • I use the Garden of Life Raw Protein Powder original flavor 1/2 scoop protein powder 3 ounces plain 2% Greek yogurt 2 ounces vanilla Almond milk Mix that up and add fruit of my choice, banana, peach, berries, oranges.... whatever is in season.
  • water aerobics and swimming is a lot easier on your joints and might be more helpful than a treadmill for now.
  • I am 47 and weight lifting with good results. I would be happy to have more friends for support and motivation!
  • I think a lot of these rules apply to people with a lot of weight to lose, and who are trying to stay on a low calorie diet. That being said..... Rule 1: Drink a large glass of water before each meal - NO excuses Definitely NOT for me. I like to enjoy my meals. Rule 2: Don't drink your calories. AMEN. Rule 3: Eat protein…
  • I have been where you are now, and I can tell you what the rest of the story might be (20 years later). What has been happening for the last half a year is that your body is desperately trying to hold onto the small fat stores that you currently have. It will do this despite a calorie deficit or working out harder. It will…
