No, it doesn't. Myths like this confuse people. Starvation mode is something the human body does when there is less than 5% body fat remaining, you know, before you start to die.

I'm no expert. But I assume that as long as you have a caloric deficit, you're going to lose weight. If someone does something that increases the heart rate, they're going to burn calories. Those calories go towards ones daily calorie deficit. Cardio is one of the best ways to burn calories. So, I fail to see how it…

Starvation mode is when you have less than 5% body fat, and you're close to dying. You won't hit "starvation mode" from missing a couple of meals. Myths run rampant on this site!

SWIMMING!! Swimming is a brilliant exercise for anybody, but more so for those who are severely overweight. I go swimming 4 nights a week, for at least an hour each time. I usually do an hour in the gym before my swim, too.

What a load of BS This article basically makes out cardio is useless, and it's not essential. As someone said, cardio burns calories. To lose weight, one needs to eat a deficit in calories. The people who did cardio, but only lost the same amount as the people who dieted, clearly ate more than those who didn't do exercise.…

I'm not entirely sure on brands in Canada, but I have a Horizon AC20 (I think that's what it is anyway) I paid £200 for it from eBay, it's like a proper gym style one. Max user weight was something like 25 stone, it's got incline on it, a built in fan, built in HRM, safety clip - was a bargain! So I guess my point is try…

Apart from boxing and UFC, sports bore me rigid. Football (or soccer as it's known in America) is pretty much all some males can speak about in the UK. Some people don't actually have any kind of social response to anything other than football, if you mentioned politics to them, they would probably cease to exist and just…

Just the 1 boob then? Lol.

I feel your pain! Due to sporadic work hours, I kind of have a nocturnal sleep cycle, I usually end up getting up at 6pm, then go to bed around 9am! On times when I do need to sort my sleep cycle out, I usually take a sleeping pill early on to knock me out, so I awake the next day at a normal hour! Seriously though, unless…

Well, I think the only similarity we have is we are both from the UK! I am motivated though, I do log/check in everyday, exercise daily and I like being accountable for others! Feel free to add me if you like!

The Fitbit will give you your TDEE calories, so you'll notice that even if you're sleeping, the Fitbit is clocking calories burnt. You can set your Fitbit to give you a reading of the negative calorie count. I have the Fitbit One, and even though it's a great little motivational gadget, I found it to overestimate both…

Buy a gym membership. Worked for me! Good luck!

As mentioned before, you may need to up your calories, especially if you're eating less than your BMR and not eating your exercise calories back. Your metabolism has probably got used to the lack of calories, and slowed itself down in order to preserve energy. Up your calories for a week, change up your exercise routine,…

Go swimming, that will soon increase your calories burnt. You can even use your HRM if you ave a polar FT4, they're good for 30 metres. Hope this helped!

Oh yeah, it must be normal for police to brutalize women in America, shoot peoples pet dogs for barking and blurt out racist slurs whilst they beat on people that are a different color. Youtube, believe it or not, is also in the UK ;)

No no, I'm not Muslim. We have a lot of problems with radicalised Muslims in this country, and A LOT of the attacks done by Muslims, are justified because of the UK's involvement in the Afghan. A war that I personally was part of. We need to learn from our mistakes. As does America. What's happening in Syria is bad, but…

You think I rely on the news for my opinions? Lol. Let me guess, you watched some Alex Jones on Infowars, and now you're a warrior of knowledge, rushing around using words like "sheeple" and "wake up"? Lol. My original point was about the UK government NOT wanting to intervene in Syria, then you jumped in, telling me to…

David Cameron was gutted when HIS OWN party voted against him. He's nothing but a war mongering degenerate! Not just Zionists, it's Jesuit's, too! Wait for all the "conspiracy theory" based insults to get thrown at us now we mentioned Zionists!

I love NZ! My best friend is a Maori! America usually have an ulterior motive for "helping" other countries. Remember, governments profit from war.
-
Yes yes, of course I did. Politics is usually a topic you need to know something about before commenting... Just saying!

ROFL Obama is an absolute tragedy for America! Hasn't he DOUBLED Americas national debt in one term? Lol. Even Mexico is opting to trade with the Euro, as opposed to the $$$ because of destabilization. I have had family in America up until last year, they moved back to the UK because of the police state style it's being…

"um" We have Muslims from the UK that have gone to fight the alongside the rebels. These UK born and bred Muslims claim once they have finished in Syria, they will return to the UK to utilize their radical new found skills here. The American government might like spreading their version of "Democracy" to these countries,…

Brilliant! One of the best purchases you'll ever make! I have the Polar FT4, and I highly recommend it!
-
I fully agree with the OP on this. I tell anybody who is concerned about their calorie burn to invest in a Polar FT4, as it's deadly accurate for calorie burn readings. As much as I do appreciate MFP, it does grossly overestimate calories burned!
-
Here in the UK we our government decided to not intervene in Syria, thankfully. Giving these hardcore Jihadists more excuses to commit domestic terrorism in the West is the last thing we need.

I tested my HRM to the state of the art Technogym equipment at my local lifestyles centre. The HRM was never anymore than 1bpm different to the Technogym equipment that measures bpm. So I'd say it's pretty accurate, either that, or ALL HRM's are defective.

Looking good, Jen! You should be proud of yourself!

Usually my breakfast consists of either eggs on muffins with mushrooms, or oatmeal with fruit. The oatmeal is the lower calorie option, but the eggs keep me filled for longer and provide more energy, so it depends how I'm feeling when I get up. I usually have no more than 350 calories for breakfast. I usually end up…

Well, I'm ALOT bigger, I use a HRM, and I use my treadmill (usually) at 4.5mph, on a 3% incline, in 15 minutes, I'd usually burn between 150 - 200 calories, so it really is a case of get a HRM, then you can be sure as to how many you are burning.
