  • I have had the Fitbit One and a Polar FT4 HRM and I discovered that the HRM is far more useful. One thing I noticed is that MFP overestimates the calorie burns, grossly overestimates them. I swim most days, and MFP tried to make out I had 1000 calories + for an hour in the pool, whereas the HRM gave me a reading of between…
  • If I had to count calories for the rest of my life I would be depressed at the thought, but I do think it's beneficial short term (at least) in helping people correct their bad eating habits. I often don't log calories at the weekend, because I'm preoccupied, usually away from home, and I spend all week religiously…
  • You could always go for brown rice - I replaced white rice with brown rice, which is actually better for you to some degree. As far as pasta goes, you could always eat wholewheat pasta. I actually rarely have pasta anymore, I much prefer rice. As far as calories go, I use boil in the bag rice, and usually in 200 grams,…
  • Take measurements. I get frustrated when I don't see a result on the scales, so I've learnt to appreciate the fact my clothing is getting baggier - constantly. As others have mentioned, you usually see results within the first few weeks, due to water weight. Drink water, keep an eye on your sodium - don't weigh yourself…
  • Protein definitely goes towards that "full feeling" Also, not sure if this is 100% true, but protein is harder to digest and break down than other macros, so you use more calories breaking it down. The human body is complex!
  • I hope the bypass works for you, I know a couple of people who have had it done, some praise it, some regret it. When I started, I had about 200lbs to lose, now I have around 50lbs to lose, it's easily doable once you figure out what foods work for you and what foods you could class as "triggers" I suppose your biggest…
  • Have you ever heard of something called "Nascent Iodine"? If not, Google it, it's sold on Amazon, I bought some and it really is good when it comes to helping out with underactive thyroid problems - read the reviews.
  • I really could not care less what people think of my weight loss. I certainly wouldn't drop my healthier lifestyle, because of what somebody else said. Unless it's something nice, just ignore what people have to say about your weight loss. You're losing weight for you - not anybody else.
  • You know, there is something called "Nascent Iodine" which is meant to keep ones thyroid in optimum condition. Google it, see what you think - could change your life!
  • Didn't even weigh myself in the first week. Just kept my calories at what MFP suggested, went back to my doctor, got weighed, and I had dropped 10kg's. Too many people get hung up on the number the scales reflect. I got like this at one point, to the point I was weighing myself daily and just getting annoyed when I saw…
  • Losing Log most weekdays, usually too busy to log at weekends Weigh myself weekly.

  • This sounds delicious. My GF is vegetarian, so I'm used to non meat food these days (a good thing) I will deffo be passing this recipe on!
  • Buy a shake weight, you can use that sat down.
  • Take measurements. Exercise causes muscles to hold onto water, ergo, you could have water retention. Chances are, you're losing weight, if you take measurements, these will usually reflect your progress, whereas LOTS of different reasons stand behind the number on the scales not going in the direction you want.
  • I know how you feel, but I can guarantee you it's not actual fat you have gained, it will be, as others have mentioned, water retention. Try taking measurements, avoid the scale for a week, then weigh yourself, in the morning, before you drink or eat anything, and preferably after you have used the bathroom/restroom. As CJ…
  • Not true. Starvation mode is something that happens to someone with less than 5% body fat, who is on the brink of death. You won't go into "starvation mode" from cutting 1 kind of macro down dramatically. It's just a myth. There is no need for a low carb diet, unless advised by and under the supervision of a medical…
  • To be honest, I wouldn't say I put myself through "torture" I actually enjoy exercising more and eating healthy.
  • Melt some cheese onto them, then spread some Marmite on them!
  • Feel free to add me. 5'9, 29, started at 400lbs, down to 265lbs, been at this since May, and I live in Liverpool! (from Huddersfield)
  • Unfortunately, I don't think there is a way of deciding where the fat comes off from. I have a BIG stomach, most of my weight was stored around my stomach, and even though I have lost 130lbs+, I still have a big stomach! One theory I heard, which seems to be true (with me anyway) is fat will come off last, where it was…
  • I used to follow the blog of a nutritionist/doctor, that worked in developing African countries, and they said that "starvation mode" is something that happens when body fat reaches 5% or less, which is where the body will hold onto whatever it can, limit blood flow, slow down the heart rate and release certain hormones.…
  • Glad I could help!
  • I actually take Nascent Iodine on a daily basis, but that's purely for thyroid benefits. My point was, if someone is struggling with their weight loss and they're doing everything right, then reducing their sodium intake could be the answer to why the scales aren't budging. My measurements are constantly going down - I'm…
  • I'm pretty sure the fat has been lost during the 5 week fluctuation. The water retention due to the sodium is what will have been keeping the number up. Scientifically, if I eat under my calories and exercise, I should be losing fat. I was already 130lbs down, then hit a plateau, cut sodium, I start to lose again. So…
  • All my best jokes would be deemed inappropriate!
  • It does when you go weeks without a loss, eating at a deficit and nothing reflects your hard work. Point is, sodium seems to hold back the number on the scale. The water retention obscures the number to the point, where even though you exercise and put in the hard work, the numbers tell you nothing. This post is for people…
  • I burn around a 1000 calories a day, but that's from between 90 and 120 minutes of swimming a day, usually 5-6 times a week.
  • I love Scotland, we have a static caravan up there (well, we borrow my GF's parents caravan) up in Dumfries and Galloway, Port William. So peaceful compared to England. We go up there at least 6 times a year for a couple of weeks!
