I don't have a solution, other than that most people are likely to be engrossed in their own workouts, or too busy worrying about being self concious to pay too much attention. The most likely reason it happens, is that you get hot during exercise, so blood is moved toward the surface of the skin, to regulate your bodies…

As above really, especially on the ab work. The only suggestion I would throw in, is that if you're more interested in physique, than sports performance\strength and power, I would drop the power cleans. Purely because the pull for a clean is actually quite a technical move, and I see so many horrible attempts at it in the…

This is great! Ask a question, get a really good response from someone who clearly knows what they are talking about, then insult them. Just for double lolz, in the insult point out that they are not smart, but at least they are big and strong, when the question is about how to become big and strong, thus qualifying them…

You just gotta pick the right friends!

If you're an experienced trainer, it might be worth a go, otherwise I would look towards other routines. Why a program based around a training regime that was adopted for assisted high level athletes, is pushed as a good idea for natural genetically average people puzzles me.
-
It strikes me that for a natural trainer, it wouldn't be a sustainable routine for more than a couple of weeks without suffering from overtraining.

There are 1486 exactly!

I don't do a split routine, because of the nature of my training, but as a beginner, you'll probably be better off with a full body routine, at least at first.

Unless there is something wrong with the facilities, I'd go with one of the first 2, especially as you can have a 1 month rolling contract off the bat. At the end of the day, a commercial gym is generally the same, no matter what the brand. So go with the closest and the ones not charging for a brand name. When it's cold…

They're probably actually thinking "I wonder how much money we can make by selling her personal training" and will likely be super friendly, so as not to lose a potential customer. Just research some lifting programs, have an idea what you want to do, and hit the gym. If you're not sure about something, don't feel stupid…

The never let the knees go over the toes argument is a massive oversimplification. Someone with a shorter femur (upper leg), won't need to move the knees over the toes, but someone with a longer femur will have to to hit the same depth, unless they want to fall on their backside. Also, not everyone with the same height and…

Squat, lot and lots and lots, with heavy weights!

I was wondering why no one else had posted this. I'm ONLY 6'1" and I'm about 220lbs, although I'm not trying to lose weight, I can't comprehend being 6'5" and 150lb, if there's ever a windy day, you'll blow away!

Ankle restrictions are very common. They can be be soft tissue related, joint capsule related or bone structure related. The first two can be be resolved relatively quickly with frequent and aggressive mobility work, a bone issue is not going to be resolved with surgery, which I wouldn't recommend. If you're serious about…

Could be a number of things, with the most likely candidates: Ankle mobility - if you cannot dorsiflex your ankles enough, you have to flex the hips a lot more, and end up leaned forward a lot, and not getting deep. Hip mobility - even with good ankle mobility, tight hip flexors will pull the torso forward and stop you…

Whilst wearing really tight pants and shoulder pads? (very 80's!)

Isn't it just the same as any other non-verbal cue? People instinctively decide things about people they meet straight away, this is just one of the attributes. Some people are good at it, some people are terrible at it, and no one is perfect at it.

Decent barbell (Eleiko, Werk-San etc..) and some bumper plates. Nothing more needed!

I wished I'd seen this thread earlier. I've got the Withings scale, I've had it about a year or so, and was going through the same choice when I bought it. I've been really happy with it, and found it no trouble to integrate to MFP and a few other apps I use. Really nice that I just weigh myself and automatically…

As in valgus knees? I don't have them, and it's hard to be 100% sure without actually seeing you and how you move, but I would give the following a go, providing you can do the movements correctly and without pain. Firstly it's likely that you're quad dominant, so work on strengthening the glutes and hamstrings, with…

It's not mothers day in my country, maybe that was only taught to previous generations!

Out of curiosity, who do you think the US are falling further and further behind?
-
Morally is it any different from someone who earns a huge amount of money, and then uses tax avoidance schemes so that they pay less income tax, or a corporation that moves money offshore to avoid paying taxes? You get these people everywhere, they aren't confined to the poor classes.

That's how the NHS works in the UK. Everyone is welcome to use it, and it provides a good standard of care, but if you want to choose a specific surgeon, or want a private room with gold leaf on the walls and waitress service, or you want something not required medically, such a cosmetic surgery purely for body…

Slightly off topic, but maybe interesting to some nonetheless. I think the effect of privatised health actually goes far deeper than people imagine. I work for a large multinational, and through my experience, I find in general (it's a generalisation, not everyone) people in the US are less likely to criticise the way…

Most funding for cancer research comes from taxpayers and charities, rather than from profit-making businesses. In the US, less than 30% of all cancer research is funded by commercial researchers such as pharmaceutical companies. Eckhouse, S.; Sullivan, R. (2006). "A Survey of Public Funding of Cancer Research in the…

Maybe it's a US thing, but why do you assume that everyone is driven by money? Lots of people are motivated to do things for the greater good. An example take software development, there are loads of open source projects out there, with lots of innovation, all driven by the idea of making things better, not by amassing as…

Squats primarily develop muscle around the thighs, typically hamstrings, glutes and quads, depending on form. That is all they do, no more, no less. Perhaps having definition in the legs makes people think they look thinner, perhaps people have lost fat whilst doing squats.
-
Personally, I would suggest you try it the other way. If you gain muscle first, you will find it easier to lose weight, as you'll be able to eat more to maintain the muscle you gained. Also if you're careful with how you gain, you'll end up with a lower BF%, through having gained muscle mass.
-
No time like the present to get started with the big weights. Even though you're planning to lose weight, the sooner you start with the lifting, the more you preserve muscle mass, and speed up the weight loss, plus you'll end up looking better, and you'll feel awesome and strong. Don't worry about the bodybuilders diet, as…
