  • Mad Men....guilty pleasure in that the only TV show I watch. My TV is used to watch Netflix on my Roku box or for use with my Wii. I'm so abnormal. :)
  • Check with OSHA and with your doctor. If you have a health reason for not being able to wear something that's not a requirement (check your employee handbook or with HR just to make sure), then your boss cannot make you use them, especially when there's an alternative available. Also, check with HR to make sure she can…
  • Stringcheese....seriously. I love the stuff. A close second would be baby carrots.
  • Flight. Think of how cheap your airfare would be. :) However, even Carol Danvers has issues carting her Samsonite from point A to point B when flying.... (Geek Points +5 if you know who that is... )
  • If I use 'butter' for anything, I use Smart Balance Lite. Despite SB's "synthetic" nature, I can't justify the cholesterol/saturated fat that's in real butter to use it instead.
  • http://www.runnersworld.com/article/0,7120,s6-238-267--12334-0,00.html You'll want to look at the last two (I do the last one with all sneakers I own even though I don't run anymore). Edit: If the sneakers you get have a little hole on the tongue to feed the laces through, make sure you do that. Not having the tongue…
  • Awesome! And it'll definitely be less sodium than "store bought" meat sauce since you can get low sodium versions of all the tomato ingredients. Thank you for sharing!
  • It does it by conductivity -- body fat conducts electricity differently than muscle/bone. So it passes a little charge through your body from one foot to the other and measures the resistance. After a bit of math, it can come up with a percentage. But you're right, I think the only true way to measure is by a fancy…
  • <shameless plug> If you want to buy shoes online, try www.roadrunnersports.com . You get a 60 day trial period for your new shoes -- if you don't like them for whatever reason, you can ship them back, no questions asked. I did this back in high school when I ran on the cross country team. Took me forever to find a set of…
  • I think it'll tell you the healthy range for BMI in the Tools section for the site -- its 18 - 25 for me (I'm 1 inch shorter than you). If I hit 21-22, I'll be happy.
  • You might not want to go cold turkey, however you do it. Going from an average of 700mg of caffeine a day to none will probably make you start drinking again just due to the withdrawal headaches.
  • I love my Saucony's. I'm super flat footed (damn genetics!) and I over-pronate; they're the only shoe I've ever been able to run in. Edit: I should add that some versions of their Grid shoes are around the $50 price mark, so I'd imagine if you can get them on sale, even better.
  • I second this! I love the stuff! Lot less carbs too (5g per serving instead of the usual 15+) so it helps if you're trying to stay within certain carb limits.
  • Wow, I never thought of it that way, but it makes perfect sense! The fact that you have to keep your balance while you're doing the movement (as opposed to being "steadied" by sitting down) makes it all that much more of a better thing. As for the OP, if you want to do the weight machines, are there any employees at the…
  • What asyluma said (she beat me to it). They're little inserts that slip around the interior of the band (nothing is permanently attached).
  • I love to do this too. Microwaveable cappuccino mugs are awesome for this purpose -- just grab a spoon when its done and you have breakfast with a handle! :) Word of caution though -- don't use fresh tomatoes in the mix while cooking (save them for garnish). It'll make for very, very watery eggs.
  • As others have said, I hope its only a special welcome back thing and not the status quo. If so, maybe you could think of healthy, quick, non-messy things the kids could eat for breakfast on the drive to school (like make your own breakfast bars or something).
  • Oh sure, rub it in! Meanie!
  • Still drink water -- it'll help keep you as hydrated as possible while you're having the alcohol. So say, have one alcoholic drink followed by one full sized water. Doing that will also help the next morning if you over indulged a bit too much.
  • Barley is another one to add to the list -- I love 1/2 cup of cold cooked barley added to 1/2 cup of yogurt.. With a shot of cinnamon, the chewy/creamy kind of reminds me of bread pudding. Also good just by itself as a typical side or since it doesn't have a whole lot of flavor itself (reminds me of oats) you can mix it…
  • Okay, this made me laugh (I have a morbid sense of humor).... "Bones, was being stranded on a desert island what did him in?" "No, Jim. It was a coconut."
  • Not to be contrary (okay, I am being contrary), 200 calories from eating fruits, veggies, lean meats, and whole grains will be a gazillion times better for you then eating 200 calories of processed, fatty, sugary, nutrient low food. Foods are not created equal, nor are calories.
  • This! Really...go for what feels good on you. Setting realistic goals is a huge part of success.
  • In that sense, it pays to have a tiny microwave! :) I can only fit the 100 snack size packs in my nuker. Santa was nice enough to bring me a microwave popcorn popper for Christmas last year -- all the benefits of air popped with the convenience of microwaved.
  • Smuggle in some little boxes of raisins! I can't think of any easy-to-smuggle salty treats (other than pretzel sticks) if you were leaning that way. :(
  • This this, all of this, especially the second point!! And make sure you're drinking plenty of water.
  • Here's a link to a crock pot/slow cooker post -- a lot of these are awesome suggestions and you can't get much quicker than dinner already being done for you by the time you get home! http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/113439-what-is-your-fav-slow-cooker-recipe?hl=slow+cooker&page=1#posts-1554278
  • Same here, occasionally with Sun Crystals or straight up, no chaser...er creamer. No issues as of yet with the progress of weight loss.
  • It probably depends on what restaurant you're going to. Some might have things like cabbage rolls (think of the egg roll contents in a cabbage leaf instead, and not fried). You can't go wrong with steamed veggies (snow peas, broccoli, baby corn, bok choy, carrots, water chestnuts, etc all steamed). Just skip the white…
  • Heh, that is a plan! You have to work for you food. I love that idea...I just wish I had a working bike (a garage sale special with bad brakes and a missing seat that I never got around to fixing).
