  • I also have had problems with horrible cravings - at night - after dinner, even when I was still full from dinner. Someone told me about the diet her arthritis doctor prescribed to reduce inflammation which had the wonderful side effect of weight loss. I was having problems with multiple joints and so decided to try it. I…
  • Try a different rice instead of brown. When I lived in Thailand, I got hooked on a rice I got there. It is a dark purple/black and has a wonderful taste - much different from brown rice. You can find it at an Asian market. Also, I love Ezekeil bread. It is made of sprouted organic GMO-free grains. It has a wonderful rich…
  • Lots of good advice above. If you are tracking your food, you probably have set a calorie goal. It may be self defeating to go from over eating whatever you wanted to eating only 1200 calories. Set your goal higher and reduce it gradually as you learn to eat healthy.
  • Cantina Bell bowl with chicken, but ask for the dressing and guacamole on the side. They put too much dressing on it. Also, the fresco style tacos are only 150 cal each.
  • Lacing up my shoes without having to expell all my breath and then holding it.
  • I so the same thing too. It means you don't have to think about food. Thinking about food makes me crazy!
  • I have read in the paper recently that school cafeterias are "hiding" vegetables in other foods - for instance cooked and pureed hubbard squash mixed in with macaroni and cheese. Start out with adding a small amount and increasing as you adjust to the taste. To experiment, buy some pureed baby foods to add in to see if you…
  • I've eaten emu, which was terrible! I also ate a fried cricket in Thailand. Tasted just like grease - nothing more, nothing less.
  • After 40 years, I donated mine to an organization in Texas that uses the dresses to make up the linings of caskets for indigent babies who have died. The parents of the babies are too poor to afford a nice casket. A carpenter makes a wooden casket and the ladies of the organization prepare the lining. They also fix up a…
  • If you are eating fruit on an empty stomach, you could be creating a low blood sugar situation. I am hypoglycemic and the worst thing I can do is eat fruit (especially an apple) on an empty stomach. It causes my blood sugar to drop, at which time I need to EAT to get it back up. I usually overeat before I begin to feel…
  • This is great! Before you know it, you'll be biking across the counttry!
  • I had tried to lose weight for about 10 years. I would watch what I ate and go to the gym and workout like a madwoman. I would give up after 4 to 6 weeks because I had lost nothing. I finally got a trainer who got me to slow down on the machines and got a HRM so that I stayed in the zone for burning fat. It worked, the…
  • First, invest in a heart rate monitor. Then, click on "Exercise" at the top, then "My exercises" . You can create your own exercise, and log in the results from your monitor. I use Polar FT4. It is simple to use and simple to set up.
  • Sugar is NOT sugar, as some people say. High fructose corn syrup has been molecularly altered. Our bodies do not know what to do with it. It becomes a toxin. Fructose and corn syrup are not the same as high fructose corn syrup.
  • I get to the gym more consistently when I write it in my calendar. Then I don't wind up with something else that takes priority. Works for me.
  • This is wonderful! Thanks for posting.
  • I used to go to the gym and work out like crazy - high intensity - and would not lose weight or inches. I started working with a trainer and she got me to working out at a lower intensity. That's when I started losing weight. For me, lower intensity is the key. As time goes by, that zone goes higher. I am 65 and had tried…
  • Agree, agree, agree on the Polar FT4. I have had mine for 4 months and I love it. It is not complicated to use. The set up was simple for this "computer illiterate". I just followed the directions and did just fine.
  • Consider, also, whether it will make your guests uncomfortable or not.
  • This is wonderful!
  • When you have your cheat meal, are there special things you can ask the server to have the kitchen do to reduce the impact of the meal. For instance, if I have a steak (limit 6 oz.) I ask that no butter or oil be used in the preparation. They can add a terrific amount of calories this way. The steak still tastes wonderful…
  • What motivates me to lose weight and exercise is the backpacking trip I have planned for this summer. I needed to lose 60 pounds and get in shape for a 46 mile trip in the Sierras. Whenever I think of eating something I shouldn't or not exercising, the thought of not being able to go makes me do the right thing.
  • Absolutely! If you don't go out every once in a while, you'll feel like you're missing something. My husband and I like the Taco Bell fresco menu. The tacos are only 150 calories each. However, I do know that not all Taco Bells have the fresco menu. We also like the grilled chicken salad at El Pollo Loco. Watch the salad…
  • You are going to take baby steps (but not drunken baby steps). Your trainer will gradually build you up. I started that way about 6 weeks ago. Now I can do a plank on my toes, and lift a 10 pound weight with one of my arms. I'm 65, so hand in there. You'll get to the point where other women and looking at you and saying…
  • Diet sodas also activate your pancreas just as regular sodas do. It is best to stay away from them. (That's not to say an occasional one is bad.) I buy plain soda water and put in flavored Stevia that I ordered on-line. Gives me a little fizzy drink, but mostly, I drink water. I cut up limes and oranges and keep in the…
  • Are you stretching properly and holding the stretch for 30 seconds? When you stretch warm muscles after workout, you make them more efficient the next time you work out. Some people like to stretch before they workout, but do so after, too.
  • I agree with the others - find another doctor. Request copies of the blood work, then, send him a letter. Be polite, but let him know that you felt bullied and have been successful despite him.
  • A very important reason why whole wheat products or brown rice is better for you is that it does not digest as quickly. Therefore, the carbs are release slower into your intestines and prevent blood sugar spikes. If you are diabetic or hypoglycemic (low blood sugar) this is very critical. A diet high in sugars and refined…
  • I absolutely agree with amyrhubarb. Every body is different and you have ti experiment with what works for you. I was on WW for 3 months and lost nothing. I ate all the points I was allowed and exercised regularly. Since starting on MFP, I stick to my 1200 calories, and on exercise days I may eat back 200 to 300 calories.…
  • Congratulations! I have almost my first 20 and 60 more to go!
