I used the Hal Higdon Novice 2 1/2 marathon program. It requires you to run 3 days during the week and then has you do a long run on Saturday/ Sunday. I didn't end up doing the 1/2 because of an injury, but I really liked to program.

Either don't buy them or buy the little individual bags (if you can stop eating after one bag). Have you tried veggie straws/chips of baked chips?

Bring your own healthy snacks, chew gum, suck on sugar-free hard candy & drink lots of water!

I finish up week 3 tomorrow! I was so discouraged after the first day (fit test), but I just keep plugging away. I haven't really lost any weight yet, but I feel like I am getting in better shape and I think I have lost a few inches here & there. I didn't actually take measurements though.
