First check your HR manually to see what it is. If that seems normal then try to reposition the chest strap sensor and be certain that the electrodes are slightly moist. If still no luck then contact Polar.

I finished the C25K in April but I ran outdoors. The thing with doing the time option instead of the distance option for the last 3 weeks is this. Unless you are running a mile in 9:39 you won't reach 5K. That works out to 6.2 mph. That's a difficult pace for a person just starting to hold for 3.1 miles. After I did the…

I listen to nature until I start wheezing too loud.

Timex makes some GPS watches with HRM but I don't think they have any that are specifically for women. They are larger and Timex has had issues with the GPS being slow to find satellites. I use a Garmin 405 and I'm very happy with it.

Actually reggae and jazz are my preferred genres, occasionally a little r&b or hip-hop.

@CoffeeJunkie... You have a fusion jazz look

This sounds good!

First day of each month first thing in the morning.

Depends on what I'm putting it on or with.

As stated above, being properly fitted for the proper shoe for your stride will save you foot pain in the long run. And you will want to spend 4 to 8 weeks using the shoes you pick for training. Don't wear a brand new completely unused pair of shoes for your race. Good luck to you. I have one coming up Sep 15. BTW- I'm…

Hello Lauren, Your diary is currently private so we cannot see it. Also we don't know any of your details. It has been only a week so you need to give it more time to start working. If a person starts this program weighing 300 pounds and have 140 to lose they will be able to eat quite a bit and exercise a little and the…

Be sure to check that the HRM you get has heart rate based calorie calculations. Just because the HRM tracks your HR doesn't automatically mean that it uses that info to calculate your calorie burn. Many of them use only your gender, age, body weight and length of time worked out to determine calorie burn.

Polar FT4 or FT7 but both are above your price range.

Garmin 305 does not use heart rate for calorie computations. So the only parameters it has to calculate heart rate is the personal info you programmed into it during setup and the distance moved and how long it took to move that distance. To use during your indoor workouts like P90X and others you need a unit that has…

Hi Jeane, Here is what I saw. First try to drink more water. It seems hard to do at first but you'll get used to it. Second, I think you need more protein and if you do start walking daily a few more carbs wouldn't hurt either. I didn't see anything else that looked questionable. Maybe start by increasing the amount of…

5mph is a 12 minute mile and that is about where I started. It's a comfortable jog. Try it and if it is too easy for you then speed it up on the next workout.

At 5:30PM when I get home from work the outside temp is 90 degrees. At 5:30AM an hour before I normally awake the outside temp is around 75 degrees. I prefer to run 4 or 5 miles when it's 75 than when it's 90. So the temp makes the decision for me. I do sometimes run in the afternoon, especially if there is a light rain.…

As some have already pointed out you need to give more time for the scales to change. Also I suggest doing the measurements. I think you will find them in the check-in area under the "My Home" tab. If you exercise and eat the proper amount of protein you will build muscle tissue as well as burning fat which can make it…

WOW! What a difference. Great job.

I weigh on the first day of each month. Except that June 2012 I did an interim weigh in around the middle of the month since my wife was out of town and I was stuck eating my own cooking. And I do measurements as well.

The only tracks here are at schools and they are uptight about people who are not associated with the school using them. So I run on the sidewalks (street running). Also I think I would get bored seeing the same old scenery every quarter mile.

runfatmanrun, How did you learn the mid-foot strike?

Running form is also a major contributor to all of the things you described. I've been looking into running form that reduces impact. If you care to take a look you can google "ChiRunning" , "Good Form Running" and "The Pose Method of Running". My problem is that I run old school style kicking the legs forward and then a…

I have the Omron HEM-780 and like it quite well. It came with an adult/large cuff. Most come with a medium cuff which is just a tad too snug for me to get a proper reading. So be certain that the cuff will fit you. I tried a unit that was about $20 less but since the cuff was too small I would have had to spend another $30…

I run in the early morning before the sun comes up or if I must run in the afternoon, I do so immediately after or during a light rain. (As long as there is no lightning.)

Hey Steve, as stated, the protien levels set by default are a bit low. There is a way to change it and I think you go through your "Goals" tab to find that but can't remember for certain. But being over on proteins and under on fats sometimes balances out for the better. A gram of fat is approximately 9 calories and a gram…

Personally I think the calorie burn numbers for exercise on MFP are a tad high. I only say this because of comparisons to other similar websites. I checked out several when I was trying to decide which to use. I like the format of MFP better but did notice that while other websites are fairly close on calorie burn numbers…
