I love Oreos, especially the ones dipped in fudge but I can't stand candy corn. Haven't had Oreos in several months. Maybe that will be my treat when I break 200.

I was coming up short on protein everyday so I started having a protein bar for a snack in the afternoon. About 180 cals and 20 grams of protein per bar with only 2 grams of fat. (Most lunch or snack size bags of chips are around 200 cals so I actually save a few calories.) The protein bars are rather dense so they are…

Good info above but I would add one more thing. Be sure the model you pick uses heart rate to calculate calorie burn. Many only use your gender, age, weight and duration of workout to guess at the calorie burn.

Google the following to get more info on the midfoot strike: Good Form Running Chi Running The Pose Method of Running All use the midfoot strike, high cadence, tall straight posture and lean. I am attending a Good Form Running workshop later this month and looking forward to learning more about it.

I didn't read every response but I will make a suggestion of what worked for me. After experiencing the same problems you are finding for the first few days I decided to divide my daily calorie allowance into 4 groups so that I know how many calories I have available for each meal. So I had a certain number of cals…

I always tell my wife that if she does the house work naked the calorie burn is higher. (No? Well, it didn't work with her either.) But if you really want to know how many cals it burns I suggest the Fitbit or other similar device. Housework does burn calories but you don't want to count it twice since that would be…

Basil, marjoram, rosemary, thyme and oregano along with your garlic will make some veggies very tasty.

OP said she is on meds for arthritis. Don't take any other meds without checking with your doctor. Rest, ice, compress and elevate. Hope you feel better soon. Nice ride by the way.

No suggestion of what to put on your knees for the pain but I will say that you might have your seat adjusted too low. If you are only riding a few blocks to the park or something it isn't really an issue but for extended rides you need to extend your leg almost straight when at the bottom of the stroke. But DON'T pull the…

I haven't had that happen but soon after I started this I decided to change settings and make it so that the only thing shared with facebook is my weigh ins which I do monthly on the 1st. So maybe I cut it down before anybody became annoyed. You can post to my feed on fb, twitter or mfp anytime you want, lol. If these…

Raw kale is very nutritious but a tad bitter so you have to pick your fruits well to balance it.

Planning to do the run in Orlando this December.

If it isn't too late I would feel better if you and the baby got out of town for a fews days. The wind isn't going to be as bad as Katrina but since a good portion of NO is at or below sea level the storm surge and the amount of rain will be big issues. Especially if you are in the northeast quadrant of the storm. I lived…

The way I'm currently doing it is this: Day 1 intervals Day 2 easy run between 3 and 5 miles at a sustainable pace Day 3 Tempo run, shorter distance at the pace to which you wish to improve Day 4 off, or do something low impact, swimming, cycling or some light resistance training, up to 60 min Day 5 easy 2 miles Day 6 long…

Liked on FB. I'm number 350! My challenge? Bananas Foster

That's a great way to do it!

Which model Garmin and which model Polar? Just because a unit gives heart rate info doesn't mean that it uses that info to calculate calorie burn. Many only use your age, gender, weight and elapsed workout time to calculate calorie burn.
-
Polar FT7 is a popular unit that is reliable. It does use heart rate info to calculate calorie burn but not all HRMs do that so look for that feature while shopping. Some use only your age, weight and elapsed time to calculate calorie burn which is not as accurate. You said all the bells and whistles, so in the event you…

Outstanding job! Keep up the great work. BTW... WalkingGirl? Might be time to change it to RunningGirl!!

Your food and exercise diary is currently private. Hard for us to say. MFP sets protien too low for active people. Most say you need 1 gram of protein for every pound of lean body mass per day. But if your calories are right on and your fats are right on but your proteins are coming up over then you must be short on carbs.…

WOW! You put a huge amount of effort into that. Thanks Dan. I'll need to bump it for now to read more thoroughly later. Need sleep now.

Can't we all just get along?

"The Old Man and the Sea" is what started it for my son. I gave him a copy when he was 10. He's 25 now and if you ever see him without a book in his hand you can assume the world is coming to an end sooner than later. He reads everything now though. From classics to modern to sci-fi. The only thing he doesn't enjoy reading…

Thanks for the tip.

As much as I enjoyed most of Hemingway's "Islands in the Stream" the ending of the book was so sad that it made me want to drink heavily.

This sounds good and since my wife is visiting our children for the birth of our 21st grandchild I'm cooking for myself. I might try this.

Don't depend on the scales to tell you the whole story. How do your clothes fit? Take measurements to see if your body is getting smaller but weight is staying the same or possibly increasing. Five pounds is five pounds but 5 pounds of feathers is a much larger physical size than 5 pounds of lead. The same is true for fat…

Won't pay for television service. No cable, no satellite for me. If I can't see it on broadcast with my antenna I'm not watchin' it.

The chart and push-pins give me an excuse to use my gps for something other than getting lost. I stop at a beach or if no beach is available I just release the sheets so the boat comes to a stop. Then I get out the waterproof digital camera I take with me and take a photo of the boat with a landmark in the background. Then…
