How old is baby?

I am 5'0 tall and weigh 144. I have my calories set at 1700. MFP put me at 1200 then I added 500 for breastfeeding. When using a calculation of TDEE minus 20% then adding 500 it is not much different than that, so I just kept that goal.

In regards to the poster that talked about being allergic to carbs and ditching oatmeal--this is just bad advice. Do you have diabetes or have ever been to a diabetes education class?

I was recently diagnosed with prediabetes, too. I had insulin requiring gestational diabetes during my last two pregnancies (my youngest child is almost 8 months old). I went in for a check up to make sure my BG was normal again and my fasting number was high. The doctor told me to keep checking my BG a few times a week…

Ok, that makes more sense! :) Of course last night I was having some cramps (which I know can be normal, and doesn't necessarily lead to getting your period or ovulating) and I was hoping that I didn't jinx myself by posting on this thread. :) I want to keep the period at bay as long as possible! Someone upthread said that…

Overall, I think that being aware of added sugars is a good thing. However, I have been diagnosed as prediabetic (and also had gestational diabetes) and have talked with doctors and dieticians. They have all talked about guidelines for total carbs rather than sugar specifically. I even asked at my last appointment and was…

I personally don't think they are necessary so haven't looked into it too much. But, if you are seriously considering it I would think about how many calories it allows per day (is it enough to sustain you and protect milk supply?), are the ingredients safe, etc.

My 4th child is 7 months old. I have always gotten down to my pre-pregnancy weight (or within a few pounds) very quickly without really doing much. This is the first time I have really focused on exercise and diet after having a baby. I weigh a few lbs less than what I did when I got pregnant with my 4th baby, but had…

chamcmillan--are you sure that you are not just still having postpartum bleeding? It can stop or slow for a few days then start up again. With my first child, I EP'ed for 8-9 months. By that time I was not pumping during the night and usually only about 4-5 times a day, I think. Around 8 months post partum we moved and I…

That is just a way to account for calories burned by breastfeeding. It subtracts 500 cals from your daily total so that your calore goal stays the same but you are "allowed" more food. I prefer to change my goal by adding the 500 (so my daily calorie goal is now 1700 instead of 1200). That way I have a more accurate…

Great work!

Looks yummy!

If your baby is over a year old I assume that he/she is also eating food. Generally, if your baby is getting only breastmilk (whether that is straight from the breast or by using pumped breastmilk) then you would add 500 calories. If you are supplementing with formula or baby is eating a lot of solids/baby food then you…

I have four boys ages 9, (almost)7, 3 and 7 months. I was having a hard time getting workouts in at home so I joined the gym. I work three days a week. Ideally, on days that I don't work I would take the younger two with me and put them in the daycare (which I do occasionally) but I don't want to pay the fee for that so…

I've only used our GF grill a few times and thought the chicken tasted strange. I tend to make mine in the crock pot. You can either shred them and use for various recipes (I make a bunch at one time and freeze in separate packages) or eat them just how they are. That being said, if the chicken is too thick try buying…

I agree with others that you can eat healthy foods without spending a ton of money, but you can also spend a ton of money on healthy foods if you want to. I would consider most of the items you mentioned to be convenience foods. You can find ways to still use them but more sparingly (and make sure you are getting the best…

Great ideas!

I'm trying to increase protein a bit so have been focusing on that with my snacks more than I used to. I usually have a Nature Valley Protein bar for one snack and fruit with a protein for another (apple with string cheese or almonds). I also like the Special K crackers with aa bit of cheese (laughing cow or other), Kashi…

Thanks! I found that blog last night. Lots of great ideas there.

Yeah, I have had the JM powder for over a year and until recently had only tried it once. I mixed it with water (the container said water or milk) and I thought it was disgusting. I only recently tried it again. It was only $10 or $15 but even that is a lot for me to spend if I am not going to use it. My husband uses one…

Is there a way to get samples of different protein powders? The price isn't bad if you like it and use it but if you hate it and it ends up sitting in your cupboard forever it is a waste of money. I have Jillian Michael's protein powder and it is ok but I would like to try others to compare. I haven't been too adventurous…

This is not entirely correct. When figuring out the band size you are supposed to add a certain number of inches to your actual measurement. Here is a link... http://www.herroom.com/bra-fitting-advice,901,30.html

ITA with this. Look at your prifile pic and you will notice that your breasts are not bigger, but there is most likely a larger difference in how much bigger the measurement around your breasts is compared to the measurement around your ribcage.

Thanks for the great ideas!

I'm sorry to hear your update. Sending positive thoughts your way..

Like others have said, there are a lot of factors at play--eating habits, activity, age, genetics, weight prior to pregnancy, breastfeeding all come into play one way or another. When you are pregnant it is easy to develop bad eating habits because you are more lax about eating snacks, etc. Also, when breastfeeding I…

My advice would be to eat healthy and not stress about the scale too much. There are "guidelines" for how much weight to gain in each trimester (and how many extra calories)and use them as that. But, if you are eating healthy foods thenThere are a lot of factors that cause weight gain throughout pregnancy...hormone shifts,…
