  • Thanks for the book suggestion. I will see if the library has it. I do really need to exercise more. I couldn't do much formal exercise in pregnancy due to a history of preterm labor (although I have four kids and still did everything else that I normally do) and am finding it hard to fit it in now between kids and our…
  • Thanks for sharing your experiences. It helps to know what has worked for others. If nothing else this is a wake up call that I need to pay attention to. I know that having GD means you have a much higher risk of developing Type II diabetes but thought that I had time to work on it before I had to start worrying. I also…
  • If you are using MFPs calorie goals and guidelines a deficit is already built in so you should be eating to your goal most, if not all, days.
  • I've been putting them in my yogurt and oatmeal. They don't add much taste or texture. I wish they were a lighter color (I also put flax meal in those foods and they look more appealing) but I am getting used to it. The only problem is that some days it seems that they get stuck in my teeth and then turn into a little…
  • zukkiz--have you figured out your BMR or TDEE? If so, what are those numbers?
  • What are their recommendations? Are they giving you a percentage to shoot for or just certain numbers of carbs at each meal?
  • I do account for breastfeeding when calculating my calorie goal. My BMR is either 1214 or 1416 depending on the method used. I have my goal set at 1700 but will eat more if I am really hungry. The last week or two I have been going over slightly quite often, though (lack of planning and not as good of food choices as I…
  • I do this if I can. This morning I had clients back to back and they all came early, so no break.
  • I am also breastfeeding, forgot to mention that. I can't get much more sleep since the baby wakes up frequently.
  • I do drink water as well. I am always drinking something. :) I keep telling myself I should stop drinking soda but then don't know how much it will actually help me, KWIM? I hear some people say it made a big difference in how they feel, others didn't notice anything. I didn't notice any change when I stopped drinking it…
  • I also drink diet soda. I hadn't really thought about it until now, but could this be a "crash" from not having caffeine for a few hours? I usually have three cans of soda per day--two in the morning and one in the afternoon (just having it now). I do stay tired throughout the afternoon, though.
  • I have the same problem. I did have a friend who was going to the gym with me so that got me up and going, but she hasn't been going lately.
  • Based on your responses I am not sure if you really want to make changes or not, but here goes.... 1. You are not eating enough and are eating too much sugar and processed foods (sausage, bacon, cheese, cheesecake, ice cream, pie filling, etc). 2. I find that if I focus on what I am trying to ADD to my daily diet rather…
  • "healthy eating" is even more ambiguous than "clean eating".
  • Have you calculated your BMR and TDEE at www.freedieting.com or www.fat2fitradio.com?
  • The idea of clean eating really makes sense to me (to me, that means no/minimally processsed foods and limited sugars except for fruit) but what holds me back is the idea that I can NEVER eat something "bad" again. A few weeks ago I saw a segment on the Today show and the dietician said to make 80% of your food "clean" or…
  • I've been wondering this, too. I also wonder how protein shakes factor in a "clean" diet? How processed are they? How many other chemicals? For the person that said they can't get enough protein with food alone...maybe your goal is too high? My husband likes to have a protein shake for lunch (he uses Shakeology) but I…
  • I've never heard that drinking water during meals will increase your belly fat. I wouldn't worry about it and drink water when you want. There are enough other things to focus on when losing weight.
  • My aunt and uncle used the book "The Formula" to lose weight and have done great. I am reading the book right now and am not sure if I want to follow it or not. It is kind of confusing and a lot of work to figure out how to keep each meal and snack within the 40/30/30 guidelines. I am still reading, though so maybe…
  • I am almost 37 and have had four kids. Breastfed the first three well past a year and am currently breastfeeding the fourth. I havent been able to find a VS bra that fits right in several years. I would start trying on other brands. I have been stuck with nursing bras for awhile but for regular bras I like to shop at…
  • I like to make egg "muffin" cups on Sunday night then keep them in the fridge to grab and go throughout the week. Egg Muffin Cups *app. 10 eggs *app 3/4 c of your choice of meat (I prefer ham but turkey sausage is ok, too. The ham seems more flavorful.) *app 3/4 c of your choice of veggies. I use onion with green and red…
  • I love seeing progress pics. You look great!! Can you tell me more about Chalean Extreme?
  • I recently read "Master Your Metabolism" by Jillian Michaels. The premise of the book is that the chemicals in our food and environment affect our bodies in various ways (PCOS, diabetes, metabolic syndrome, thyroid problems, etc). She really advocates for a clean lifestyle--not only in eating but in the products we use on…
  • I had my fourth baby 6 months ago. I had gestational diabetes during my third and fourth pregnancies. After giving birth they said my blood glucose was normal but I have been randomly checking at home, more so in the last month. Outof 7 times checking my fasting numbers, 5 of those were over 100. My understanding is that…
  • I do believe that there is more to it than simply saying that a lb is 3500 calories. However, I am confused about how you are calculating your daily needs compared to how much you are netting. You said that you were eating your maintenance calories (for your goal weight) but then you said that you were eating 100 calories…
  • By slowly I meant that it would probably be verrrry slow. :) Have you used the calculators at www.fat2fitradio.com? They will use your heigh, age, current weight and goal weight to give you the amount of calories you should eat based on your activity. The numbers are based ony our TDEE at your goal weight, as they say you…
  • If you only have 10 pounds to lose then I wouldn't think the difference in TDEE would be that great. I would follow the advice that I see most on the boards, which is to calculate a 10-20% deficit based on your TDEE. If you are eating at your maintenance level then it seems that you would lose very slowly, especially if…
  • Not necessarily an exception. Mt BMR is either 1214 or 1416, depending on the method used to calculate. My TDEE with sedentary as my multiplier could easily be under 1600. That doesn't give much wiggle room in regards to diet and lifestyle without exercise.
