Great post! Mine should be 87 and some change after tonight's run. I ran my first half marathon earlier this month, and am now training for my first full in October.

Does it really matter what other people think? Hang out with the angels. Ditch the creeps. There are plenty of both to go around. Life is too short to figure out why people do the crazy things they do.

True change must come from within. We can seek outside motivation all day long, but until we have a burning, all-consuming desire to achieve personal change, we are setting ourselves up for failure. Once we truly commit to a goal, make a plan, and follow through, we become unstoppable.

I've been a frequent WW joiner in the past. It's a fine program, and I did lose weight. But I found myself fixating on food to the point of obsession, which made maintenance a problem. I also grew tired of the expense and the meetings. MFP is a much better fit for me.

There is no easy fix. All you can do is face it head on: Avoid temptation as much as possible; Keep the bad stuff out of your house; Track your intake; and Exercise. It's also easy to become addicted to sugar, so doing a cold-turkey fast from sweets is helpful. It's rough at first (believe me, I know), but after a while…

If you're in good health, preparing for a 5K in May should be completely doable. Definitely invest in quality socks and running shoes, crank up your MP3 player, and get going. Build distance and speed gradually, and enjoy the experience. Annoy your chiro. Ask him to be your race sponsor. Good luck and kick butt!
