OP here. See I wasn't craving a donut, it just appeared before me and I was tempted to eat it. I guess I'm mostly looking for reasons not to the eat free treats that routinely appear at work (today it's mini cupcakes, WHY?!). I agree that one donut is fine, but I'm worried about the cumulative effect.

This is good logic. Someone brought in homemade mini cupcakes later in the day, and I thought "This is why I didn't eat a donut."

I lost six pounds in six weeks doing strict no-carb. Then Christmas happened. And New Years. I'm trying to get back to what I was doing in the fall.

It seems there are way more people in the "eat the donut" camp. I ended up surveying my office to see if anyone would mind if I moved the box to a different breakroom down the hall. They agreed and the donuts were gone by noon! Donut temptation averted, for now...

This fits nicely with my personal philosophy of "just because you can, doesn't mean you should." I tend to forget it when there is free food staring me in the face.
