  • I just did Yoga Meltdown with my BodyMedia for the first time and for 35 minutes at level one it gave me a burn of 120. That seemed low to me but looking around and that is pretty much what everyone else is getting. This seems like an inefficient use of my time. I can go run 3 miles in 30 minutes and burn more then twice…
  • I'm working on the same thing. I have started Jillian Michaels 6 week six pack video and am doing it about three times a week combined with running and Zumba. I can already tell a difference in the tone after a month, BUT I am struggling with my diet so there is still a layer of fat over the muscles and the overhang so you…
  • I used this calculator before Christmas: http://caloriesburnedhq.com/zumba-calories-burned/ Then got a bodymedia device that I wear when I work out. It is fairly consistent with the calculator. Over break I did a 50 minute session via youtube and it said I burned 600 calories.
  • I don't think so because we innately view the friendships differently. Men are genetically driven to spread their genes but women aren't like that. This article came out today and makes some very valid and interesting points. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/10/23/platonic-friends-men-women_n_2005709.html
  • Pudding Yogurt Organ meats
  • I agree with this comment. It is not a gym for body builders but for everyday people who are overweight or who want to get healthy.
  • This is a gym for people on a budget. I pay $10/month and that gives me access to cardio equipment such as treadmills, ellipticals, arc trainers, bikes etc as well as weight machines. They also have a small area in the back with ab type things, weighted balls and such. There is also another area dedicated to a circuit…
  • I have not and will not ever straighten my hair. It doesn't look good to me straight. It looks unnatural and ugly. Plus it is a lot of work and I am inherently lazy :) Don't worry about what everyone else thinks. Make yourself happy :)
  • I have always heard that the muscle cramps are related to a lack of electrolytes so you might try gatorade or eating a banana before a run and see if that helps. Also, the surface you run on can make a difference. I get shin splints on concrete but not on asphalt or treadmills. Good luck!
  • You look fantastic! Great work!
  • I love Planet Fitness! I joined last October but didn't really start going regularly until January. It is always very clean and hasn't been crowded once. I go during the day though when everyone is at work. The equipment is maintained and clean and easy to use. There aren't lots of muscle bound lunks working out either. It…
  • I just did the workout for the first time today. If you don't do some sort of cardio, which is what the steps are, you aren't going to burn near as many calories. The weights just tone and strengthen muscles, they don't get your heart going which is what revs your metabolism and burns calories. So when I calculated…
  • One other thing, losing 1-2 pounds a week is average. That is nothing to be disappointed in. It has taken you years to put on the weight and it isn't going to come off over night. Look at this as a life style change to be a healthier and happier person. No one can do it for you. If you are living at home with mom's…
  • If you aren't eating veggies your body is not getting the nutrients it needs. I hate a lot of veggies too, but I have found some I do like: roasted kale, spinach salad, spring mix salad, etc. On the days I eat veggies I feel a whole lot better physically. Rice has little good nutritional value to it and it is full of…
  • My niece is only 9 but she is obese. She is already very self conscious about her weight and has been trying to lose it. I would say if the child is old enough to make the decision to lose weight AND they are at an unhealthy weight then teach them the right way to do it. Teach them healthy eating and exercise. My kids are…
  • I was just put on a beta blocker on Thursday. This is my first time on any kind of blood pressure medicine. I went to the gym today and noticed that I felt like I was working hard like before when my heart rate was 145-150 but today I couldn't get it to 120! The highest it got was 118. Which is barely in the fat burning…
  • WAY TO GO!!!! You can definitely see a difference! You are well on your way to a healthier you! Thanks for sharing your success!
  • Remember, the weight gain was gradual so it isn't going to come off in one week. It takes time and yes, it can be hard to be patient. :) I have decided to only weight myself on Sunday mornings before breakfast. I am also planning to check my measurements at the end of every month. It can be frustrating and discouraging,…
  • Refried beans have lard in them so those would be bad. You would be better off with whole beans. The guac would depend on the restaurants recipe as everyone makes it different. Might be best just to ask for sliced avocado. Salsa is usually pretty low calorie. Corn tortillas are better than flour. Avoid cheese, cheese…
