@vittix -- wow we are all broken the same! I have had a knee problem that causes it to lock up, too. Doctor told me 11 years ago I needed surgery to take out a "loose body" in my knee cap. I haven't done it because I don't want to be laid up for two months.

joey72talk - they have region-free dvd players... sometimes the really cheap chinese ones play all regions.

SLEEP - IT DOES A FIBRO BODY GOOD I nearly always have fibro flare ups the day after I stay up too late and get up early. Yesterday, for example. I didn't go to bed until 1AM but had to be at work early for meetings and was up at 6AM. Sure enough, by about noon I was in full pain mode. Aching body -- everywhere -- sharp…

RILEYRED - I believe housework and other daily activities count as long as you have set your BMR based on a sedentary lifestyle. Someone who already claims an active lifestyle on their BMR already includes those types of activities, IMO. It is unrealistic to expect results like you see on the Biggest Loser with a FM…

nancyinfernle- My younger son who is almost 6 has similar problems. He is a candidate for drugs but we refused as well. Right now he is going through a neuro-feedback program, http://nhahealth.com/. He has been doing it for about 4 weeks now and he does seem better lately. On the first visit, they attached tons of sensors…

A drug induced sleep does not give you as well of rest when you can get it naturally. The key is to get into REM sleep as long as possible. I don't think any pharmaceutical sleep adds allow much REM sleep.

Never been to a chiropractor but I do like to go for a deep tissue massage. It is typically excruciating while getting it but it really loosens me up. Even the next day isn't so great, but I fell way better by the third day and I usually feel better for about a week or so after that. My biggest challenging as a FM sufferer…

I think you are just weird! :) I think you notice it after 4-5 weeks because you may be gone down a size or two in clothing at that point so people notice the baggy clothes. Or you changed sizes and they notice the slimmer you. I hope I am wrong and will see this "shift" in 3-4 weeks. I am gonna start needing some real…

@nancyinfernle - Wow! You have a lot going on. My thoughts are with you. One thing you may want to look into is sleep apena if you haven't. I hate it and it isn't very sexy but I sleep so much better when I use a CPAP -- it is amazing. If you are having a lot of problems sleeping you might want to ask your doctor for sleep…

@deanap1232 - Thanks for sharing. Almost everything you mentioned I am VERY familiar with. You are not alone. You didn't mention your thoughts on Cymbalta -- I am interested compared to the others (I hated Cymbalta, btw). Keep on the fight -- even if you don't see big weight loss, staying fit will give you a bit more…

Elliptical machines are a great too for low impact cardio. There is another group with discussions on how to make excercise interesting with elliptical machines: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/groups/home/83-elliptical-users This is my new Octane 47ci. Waiting for delivery in two weeks.

I spoiled myself this year. I need a low impact cardio activity at home since getting to the gym takes so much more time. I ordered an Octane 47ci -- to me the Cadillac of Ellipticals. Unfortunately, I have to wait until Jan 17th for it to be delivered. I am trying to decide whether it should go in my bedroom or my dining…

What is the time frame from 271 > 175 > 185?

I agree. I am recently divorced. I honestly feel that FM is a major contributor to led to the failure of my marriage. It is very difficult for someone to appreciate what you are going through when you appear normal. To them we just are lazy, whiny, and miserable. But what they don't understand how much strength and energy…

vittix - This isn't a group for those ready to give up! This is for survivors doing what ever it takes to reach our goals. Unfortunately, we have more challenges than the typical person. But your 50 lbs and CALORIE OCD proves that you are WINNER! Exercise what your body will allow and maintain those calories. When you…

dr.chanequa & mschelle - OMG! My situation is identical. I lost 70 lbs about 6-7 years ago with hard exercise (running and weight training) and was feeling terrific. Then suddenly I had terrible pains and couldn't even walk through the grocery store. That is when I was diagnosed with FM (after many tests, too). It has been…

I saw on ABC News last night that there are a new break through for treating MS. They were very vague on the treatement. In some people FM has some similarities to MS (although I would take FM over MS). But I wonder if there is any spill over to FM? Anyone know?

There are two other gruops that I know of on myfitnesspal.com that deal with fibro. I started this one since I couldn't find one the first time. Since then, I found these two. Are there more? Chronic Pain & Weight Loss http://www.myfitnesspal.com/groups/home/940-chronic-pain-weight-loss Fit, Fabulous, Fibromyalgia…

Depending on where you live, walking outside isn't a good option (too hot, too cold, too humid). Another option for walking is your local indoor mall. It is usually a nice comfortable environment, more open space, and they usually have really nice lounge areas to rest if need to sit down. The mall makes for some good…

Massage - Definitely something in my treatment plan. However, I just go whenever I an feeling really stiff and sore. It usually makes me feel worse the next day as I recover of the pressure but on the third day I feel much better. Reminds me, I should schedule another appointment. :)

When I was first diagnosed with Fibro about five years ago, I just completed a successful fitness recovery losing over 70 pounds down to 220. My regime included elliptical and treadmill for cardio followed by hard weight training. At 220, I wasn't skinny but with my large frame I was very fit and in great shape; I would…

Cymbalta I was originally prescribed Cymbalta by my neurologist about five years ago. It seemed to help a little but made me very tired and robbed me of any energy I may have ad left. It also caused me to have hot flashes, excessive sweating, and erectile dysfunction. I finally stopped taking it in July 2011. It was a…

I have had surprising success with Fibro-Response from Source Naturals. I was put on Cymbalta for several years which did nothing but give me side effects. So I started experimenting with various vitamins and minerals and found good results with Malic Acid. Then I found Fibro-Response on Amazon and it combined a lot of the…

I have also been dealing with fibro for about five years now. I definitely can relate to others not understanding what we go through. My wife of 10 years divorced me in 2011. Much of our struggles originated from her lack of appreciation and understanding of my daily struggle. No one can understand when you look normal and…

I am looking for friends to help encourage on this new year. This is the start of my second major weight loss campaign. Seven years ago I lost 70 lbs and in the best shape since high school. Then suddenly knocked down by fibromyalgia forcing me to stop my workout routine and ate myself back to where I started. After about…
