  • Can someone tell me the steps to change my % breakdown in MFP? I've tried going to settings but it still has my carbs set much higher than I want and my protein much lower. Is there a way to customize it?
  • This was me when I started. I hated exercise and avoided it at all costs. But I realized that if I really am going to get fit this time and make a lasting lifestyle change, I was going to have to change the way I think. I STOPPED telling myself how much I hate exercise. I wouldn't even allow myself to go there. Everytime I…
  • You've got some good advice here already. I work out with a trainer a few times a week. He used to work at my gym but then struck out on his own and I followed him. During our initial meeting, he asked A LOT of questions......what were my goals? where did I see my fitness level being in 3 months, 6 months, 12 months? what…
  • Whoever you chose, I would ask for a free first session and ask him/her to show you how a typical session would work. It would also give you a chance to see how you "click." Does his/her style provide the right kind of motivation for you (i.e., some people like negative comments and some like only positive comments)? Do…
  • When I work out with my trainer, we do boxing stuff all the time. I just fasten the glove a little looser on the wrist that has the watch on. I haven't had a problem. I obviously can't see the face of the watch, but I've never had it lose connection or anything, so I don't really need to. I agree that maybe putting on your…
  • I think using the Wii one would be pretty close, but you can create a custom exercise for yourself. Just click on the Exercise tab and then My Exercises. There is a "create exercise" button there. I use a heart rate monitor to log my calories burned, regardless of the activity (elliptical, running, treadmill, bike), so I…
  • I have the Polar FT4 and it does give calories burned. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the Polar products.
  • I use Run Double. I like that I can play my own music with it.

  • I had a similar problem with another gym. I sent them a certified letter then provided my bank a copy of that letter and told them I was not authorizing any more withdrawals out of my account from this organization. It seems to have worked. I haven't seen another charge come through since. Hope that helps.
  • I gave up my cleaning lady to be able to afford a personal trainer. :ohwell: My mother would be appalled at the state of my house right now. At least I managed to mop the kitchen floor this week. Seriously though I agree with the poster who said she will not be thinking on her deathbed "Oh I wish I had kept my kitchen…
  • My gym is $31 a month, including towel service.
  • You should be able to go into "Settings" and change your weight. I've changed mine a couple of times so far. Here's a link to the online user manual that will you step you through how to do it: http://www.polar.fi/e_manuals/FT4/Polar_FT4_user_manual_English/manual.pdf

  • When I started out, I worked out at home walking on the treadmill. Once I was consistent in that, I decided to join a gym that's within walking distance of my house. I now do cardio 6 days a week (either on a machine at the gym or on my treadmill at home, depending on how crazy the day was), and I've just started doing…
  • Holy cow! You look at least 20 years younger!! Good job!
  • I just did W1D1 yesterday. Feel free to add me. I'm training for a Mudathalon 5K in June. Oy vey.
  • At some point, you just have to get over your self-conciousness. For the last 2 sessions with my personal trainer he has had me flipping a tractor tire, jump in, jump out, flip again. I'm sure look hilarious. But it's working! And it's actually kind of fun! I'm sure anyone seeing you struggle up the hill is inspired by it.…
  • Lots of good advice up here. ^^^ I did my first 5K about 3 years ago. The one piece of advice I wish someone had given me is to make sure you get a few runs in at the time the 5K will take place. I typically ran in the evenings when I was doing Couch to 5K. But the race was super early in the morning (I think it was a 6:30…
  • I found some at Target that I really love. I have both the briefs and the boy short styles. They are made of a very breathable and thin fabric a little heavier weight than pantyhose. They do not ride up, they dry quickly, and don't show much (if any) panty line. They are Gillian O'Malley brand. I think they were around $11…
  • I've found that I seem to have PLENTY of time to waste in front of the TV. So for awhile, I wouldn't allow myself to turn it on until after I'd returned home from my workout. I told myself that I didn't *have* to go to the gym, but if I didn't, I couldn't turn on the TV all evening. It's amazing how motivating being bored…
  • ..........I would have never joined a gym. ..........I would have never hired a personal trainer. ..........I wouldn't understand the importance of eating back my exercise calories. ..........I wouldn't have a clue what "clean eating" means. ..........I wouldn't have wanted to try lifting.......at all...........EVER. Now…
  • Yep, this is it for me. ^^^^ It happened between ages 12 and 16, so prime "puberty years." Really messed me up. Any type of attention my physical form makes me ultra uncomfortable. So I'm not sure how I will feel once I've lost the weight.
  • Congrats! I have neuropathy too, but I'm finding the more I exercise, the fewer symptoms of it I have. I agree with the poster who said you'll soon be going around that lake twice!! Good job!
  • I've been using Dymatize Elite. You can get it at bodybuilding.com or GNC. Mixes really easily with water, doesn't clump and tastes fantastic, particularly like the Gourmet Vanilla flavor.
  • A group of friends from work are doing the Mudathalon in Northern Kentucky in June. I must have lost my mind because I today decided to join them. Oy vey......what have I got myself into??
  • On certain days I do. Somedays the only day I can get a workout in is to go at lunchtime. I sweat a LOT,so I do a quick cool shower before redressing and fixing my hair and make-up. However, I live within walking distance of my gym, so when I workout before or after work, I just head home to shower. I suppose in theory I…
  • Started January 2. I've lost 20 lb since Jan 2.
  • When I work out at home on the treadmill, I definitely watch TV. I have a whole-house DVR so I find something I've taped that looks interesting or I grab something off the free on-demand service. If possible, I fast foward through the commercials but it depends how fast my treadmill is set to go.......my coordination isn't…
  • You might try a massage therapist that does AIS (active isolated stretching) or a chiropractor that does ART (active release techniques). I understand they are very similar. A couple of weeks ago, I had what I thought was a hamstring issue. I happened to see a Groupon for a massage therapist who specializes in AIS. After a…
