MFP vs FitBit Calories
I'm having a hard time making sense of which calories I should be following. For example, MFP says I have 506 calories left to eat for the day; FitBit says I have 630 calories left for the day. Also FitBit is saying I'm over on calories in vs. calories burned, i.e., I'm not in the "zone." I never know which one to trust!…

Advice on when (or if) to up my calories
Hi Sara and SideSteel, I am nearing my goal weight (only 18 more pounds to go), and I'm wondering when (or if) I should up my calories. A little about me: I started working to lose weight last year. I was at 200+ in January 2012. I actually stopped weighing myself when I hit 200, so best guess on starting weight is…

Upping Calories Closer to Goal Weight
I know that the closer I get to my goal weight, I need to start upping my calories (i.e., setting my profile goal to 0.5 lb/week instead of 1 lb/week). I have two questions about that. 1) Why is this advised? I'm not questioning it......I'm just curious physiologically why this works. 2) At what point do I need to reset my…

My very sad NSV
Last Fall, I had a little windfall of cash and treated myself to two uber-expensive pair of jeans. Most I've ever paid for jeans in my life! I love them, and they are the reason I got back on the fitness bandwagon.....I noticed a few months ago there getting really snug. Fasforward to today. Jeans' Day at work. I put them…

FitBit User needs help!
I accidentally deleted my FitBit adjustment on the Exercise page. Is there a way to get it back?

Deadlift Question - FOR THE LIFTERS
I started lifting in earnest about a month ago. My favorite lift is the deadlift. I'm currently lifting 110 lb. The other day I accidentally added more weight (forgot to subtract out the bar which added an additional 45 lb which made it 155 lb). I was able to do 3 reps before I realized what I'd done. I actually think I…

Cross Fit?
For the past year or so, I've been fascinated with cross fit, but I'm really nervous about trying it. It looks totally intimidating. Would someone who does or has done cross fit describe what it's like? Here are my specific questions: 1) Do you need to have a certain level of fitness before starting? 2) How does your class…

A somewhat sad NSV
So yesterday I had a really big fight with a friend. One of those can't-sleep-now, friendship-ending kind of fights. It was ugly. It was emotional. And the urge was there to "soothe" myself with some donuts, ice cream, or other fattening foods. But I did some self-talk and convinced myself that 1) I would feel worse if I…

Trader Joe's suggestions?
I'm meeting a friend for lunch on Sunday near a Trader Joe's. I don't make it up there that often and wonder if anyone has any healthy suggestions for what I should buy there. What are your favorite TJ's products?

Digital Scale Recommendation
I currently have a crappy digital scale at home and it's always inaccurate (when compared to the doctor's office or the scale at the gym). Wildly inaccurate. As in 7-8 lbs inaccurate. So I'm looking for a new one. Can anyone recommend a good one for under $50? I'd like one that also measures body fat, if possible.

What apps help keep you on track?
I find I'm relying more and more on my phone apps, everything from Nook to read books to productivity apps. I'm always on the hunt for new apps. What apps (besides MFP) do you use to help you meet your fitness goals? Here are some I use/like (not all of them are truly fitness-related but help me stay on track: - SmartGoals…

Picking up where I left off
I started on MFP in Jan/Feb 2012. I lost 50 lb by June 2012. Unfortunately, life got in the way and I stopped recording my food and stopped working out. I didn't seem to gain much (maybe 5 lb) until this winter. Then I packed on the weight again and gained 20 of that back. So now I'm trying to get back in the swing of…

Anyone have some good smoothie recipes?
I've recently started drinking a protein smoothie in the morning for breakfast. I'm looking for ways to switch it up and try new flavors/recipes. Anyone have any good ones? I'm particularly interested in those that include protein powder. Thanks in advance!

An unexpected NSV today
I passed my boss in the hallway, and she said "Wow, you're gonna need to buy some new pants soon......you're swimming in those!"

Eating more protein
I've started working toward eating more protein. I'm aiming for 120-150g per day, although sometimes I don't make it there. However, I'm having trouble with "reguarity" since adding the additional protein. I'm trying to eat high fiber foods and veggies and taking fiber capsules. I even resorted to a laxative last night…

Personal Trainer advice needed
So I am supposed to work out with my PT on Sunday afternoons and Wednesday evenings. Last Sunday, he texted me 2 hours before our session and said he wasn't feeling well and could we reschedule for later in the week. Because my schedule is crazy I wasn't able to actually reschedule.....we just did our normal Wednesday…

Jeans NSV
I have a pair of jeans I haven't worn in over 2 years. Couldn't even button them up. When getting dressed this morning, I noticed them and thought "What the heck, let's see if they fit." They did! They are still a little snug, but I was able to wear them all day today. Can't even believe it!

My NSV
Yesterday I had a session with my personal trainer at the gym. About half-way through our session, his next client showed up and watched while I finished my workout. As I was gathering up my stuff to leave, I heard this exchange between them: Client: I see her here at the gym all the time. How often does she work out? PT:…

My heart rate and HRM
Back when I was in my 20s, I was diagnosed with a minor heart defect that causes my heart rate to be abnormally high. Before being diagnosed, I'd been rushed to the hospital twice with my heart rate in the 200-250 range (amazingly I remained conscious both times). I was sent to an electrophysiologist who put me on…

Protein questions
I started working out with a personal trainer last week. As part of my assessment, he suggested I eat more protein. (I know...I know.....Personal trainers aren't nutritionists, but I could see that I was under in protein goals most days, so I was willing to try his suggsetion.) Saturday was my first day eating more…

Cheat Days?
Do you allow yourself "cheat days?" Or "cheat meals?" If so, how often? Does it help you keep the cravings at bay? Thinking about this because I totally blew it today. Went out to lunch with a co-worker and we ended up at ~gasp~ a Chinese buffet. I was pretty well restrained compared to my pre-MFP days, but I'm sure I had…

I've lurked long enough
I joined MFP on January 1 and have lurked on the message boards for awhile. Just wanted to say "hi."
