1. How often do you meet with yours? The plan I signed up for at the gym has me working out with him twice a week for 9 months, then once a week for 3 months. 2. How often does the PT change your plan? This is a new a trainer for me. I just started with him last week. Prior trainers I've worked with change the plan every…

If I'm doing strength training, I'm pretty much focused on form and counting reps. During rest periods, I'm thinking "Am I seriously the only girl in the free weight area? I hate that I'm the only girl in the free weight area." If I'm doing cardio, I usually read on my tablet, so I get engrossed in the story. But if I'm…

Thank you, JacksonPT, this is exactly the information I've been looking for. Read through your post in the first link and makes perfect sense. Now I think I'm on the right track.

I'm confused as well. I like the idea of eating back exercise calories. It is a motivator for me to work out. But with the TDEE-20% method, it doesn't look like you do that. I'm wondering if you do your TDEE, set your activity level to little or no exercise, subtract 20% and go with that as your daily goal, could you then…

Thanks! I have a BB&B coupon in my purse right now! Might stop by there on my way home from work and pick one up!

Wow, this is exactly the info I've been looking for. Thank you, OP. Great info.

I am in the same boat, Grandmastime. I actually quit in May 2011 and remained smoke-free until May 2012 when I had a super stressful time and picked it back up (stupid stupid stupid!!) Now it's almost a year of smoking again, and I want to quit. I have used nicotine patches to quit in the past and that really…

I totally understand your frustration. My mom used to hide her candy in the china closet. She would never let us near the china closet because we "might break something" but in reality she just didn't want us eating her expensive chocolates. Can you hide your chocolate? Or does it need refrigeration?

When I was getting groceries this week, I noticed So Delicious is now making an coconut milk coffee "creamer." They had original, French Vanilla and Hazelnut. If you're not sensitive to coconut, it might be worth a try. I also saw that Silk (soy) had a coffee creamer too.

I agree with everyone saying to just get in, do your thing and get out. When I started going to the gym, I was 200+ lb (I'm only 5'0"). One of my first days there, I saw a guy who was roughly 300 lb and using a walker to get from machine to machine. I thought, "Dang, if that I guy can get his butt in here and work out, so…

I love your honesty! I was right there a year ago.........I had bought a beautiful 3-story condo (top floor bedrooms, middle living area, basement laundry) and thought at the time I would probably stay there until I died. But then I packed on the weight and found going up and down the stairs to do laundry was exhausting! I…

90% of my sessions is heavy (for me) lifting. But he is pretty easy on the eyes......that helps. I should also mention that the former trainer was about about 30 lb overweight, so I knew he wasn't the trainer for me, but I gave him a month to see what happened.....then I moved on.

Funny, I just switched personal trainers. My former trainer was of the "ladies should stick to machines and not free weights" mindset. I met with my new trainer last week and I told him specifically that I liked doing deadlifts. His reply, "You and I are going to get along GREAT then because that's the best exercise there…

Wow! Looking forward to trying several of these apps! Thanks for the suggestions.

I hear ya! I spent $186 at the grocery this weekend.....for just myself! Granted, I bought stuff for the next 2 weeks, but still.......I about died when they tallied it up. But I also bought stuff for 3 meals per day plus snacks....not just dinner. And other stuff like laundry detergent, dish detergent and paper towels. I…

I agree with what everyone has said about trying something new. I was always intimidated at gyms. But a year ago I forced myself to sign up. With my membership, I got a free personal training session. That was the game-changer for me. I love working out with a trainer. I get to chat with someone while I work out. He pushes…

Depends on what I'm using it for. For smoothies/shakes: ON 100% whey (vanilla ice cream flavor) For additives to food (I make a MEAN protein pancake): Muscle Milk vanilla. I've found that the better quality protein powders don't work as well when cooked or baked.

Hi Jessica and welcome. Feel free to add me as a friend. You're welcome to look through my diary (although I just started keeping track again this past month). I've been on MFP off and on for about a year now, and it's a great tracking tool as well as a great community of support. My one piece of advice is to make a…

I like my eyes and.......can't believe I'm going to say it.....my hair (took me a lifetime to find a stylist who knows how to cut curly hair!!) I also like my [dare I say it] boobs. They're the perfect size and shape.

I like your beard. You're far from grotesque. I think you've got great eyes and a handsome face.

I have some non-scale related goals (being consistent in logging food in MFP, being consistent in gym attendance, staying active on non-gym days). Some of those rewards are: - buy a magazine - buy some new workout wear - trip to the zoo - bubble bath and a glass of wine - visit to the museum - drink at my favorite bar -…

Me too! And we have the same name!! LOL. Originally from a small town northeast of Dayton, Ohio. Moved to Cincinnati in 1994 and then to Northern KY in 2010. I keep thinking I'm moving further and further south.....by the time I retire, I should already be in Florida. :-)

I'm 5'0" on the dot. I lost 50lb last year using MFP and lots of exercise. Gained 20lb back over the winter. Ugh. Now have 30lb to lose to be at goal weight. Feel free to add me.
-
I'm 5'0" and my start weight was 200+ (I stopped getting on the scale when I hit 200 lb. I'm guessing my "real" start weight was closer to 207 lb.) My current weight is 153 lb. My physician says he'd be happy if I hit 145 but I'm thinking 135 is closer to where I want to be. I think he said 145 lb because then I'm…

I have the same problem. My calves have "thinned out" some with weight loss. I went from an 18" calf to a 15" with 40+ weight loss. But I often still can't fit in normal boots. Two sites that are helpful: 6pm.com zappos.com Both sites list the exact circumference of the calf of the boot. So as long as you know the…

My grandfather always said, "You can count your true friends on one hand and never need to use your thumb." I've found this to be pretty accurate in my life. I have 3 - my sister, my BFF (female) and one guy friend.

Fantastic post! Just what I needed to hear today. Thank you.

Funny, I talked to my mom last night on my way home from work. She asked if I was doing my "usual" (meaning working out as soon as I get home). I said yes and I actually said that I felt like it was my second job! This job description confirms that I was right!! It is!

I have a similar situation with my grandmother. She has always cut me down, belittled me and said really mean things to me about my weight in front of other family members. Most of my family cannot stand to be around her, but she seems to have always targeted me. She's 95 years old and still as mean and b*tchy as ever. I…

In May 2011, I quit smoking. I knew I would gain weight, so I gave myself through Dec 31, 2011 to just settle into a non-smoking lifestyle. Meanwhile in Fall 2011, my dad was diagnosed with diabetes. I favor him in almost every way (personality, coloring, height, body shape, you name it), so I knew where I was headed if I…
