You might also want to get proper footwear. Even if you don't run you may pronate or need support that you are currently not getting. I went to the Running Room and got assessed and they suggested what footwear I should be wearing and it made a world of difference, haven't had a shin splint since.

There is no better feeling than that !! Smaller than you anticpated. Keep up that awesome work!

It does seem to be an odd situation. My sister has diverticulitis and has to lose weight, and yet she continues to eat the wrong things and is not interested in Paleo. She says she loves bread and cheese..etc. My response is perhaps she loves it too much (okay I would never say that to her..lol) but my point was that those…

This is just what I was going to say. I had shin splints when I first started and a runner friend of mine sent me to get properly fit for running shoes, what a difference. It appears I pronate..lol. almost immediately the pain went away. I did the learn to run program with the Running Room here and they said the same thing…

I know some of those fees are crazy. I like the whole atmosphere of running in groups like that. I do the Bluenose every year because I love the experience. But some of the others can run up to $50.00 and I think that is just nuts.

I'n overweight and have run a 5K but I trained for several months before hand to get to the point where I could run without stopping and without injuring myself. Don't try to do too much too soon, that is where injuriies happen. However I see no reason why you cannot walk a 5K.. Last year I walked a 10K and it wasn't that…

I have been eating Paleo for almost 4 months now. I started when I found out I was allergic to dairy and looking for reciepies that were dairy free. I ran into some paleo sites. I have to say I thought this sounded like such a hard restrive diet, but I was wrong. After cutting out sugar, grains, dairy and legumes I feel…

I am goal oriented so I like to have something to work toward, like a 5k race. However it may be you haven't found the exercise you enjoy...try new things like dancing, martial arts, Zumba, kettle all, crossfit, swimming....something may just be the right fit

I have to say that the first thing you need to do is see a doctor, it may be your diet change, but then again it may not. Don't leave something that could be serious, or could be fixed.

Everyone is looking for the magic pill or special diet. Someone earlier said that your mental state plays a big part and I agree 100%. I have challenges due to food allergies so milk and soy are out, and I don't eat a lot of bread carbs, no legumes or artifical sweetners as they cause stomach upset and I don't eat sugar.…

I was struggling with many health issues and ended up going on an elimination diet. It turned out I was allergic to dairy and it changed my life. So I guess I am biased on the whole dairy issue..lol. But I agree with the others that cutting it out to start and then introducing it back in is a good way to see if has any…

I have been at it for about 5 months, and I am allergic to dairy as well. You can add me for support if you want :) as can anyone else, always looking for people who understand.

Hey, me too...well Timberlea, close enough ..lol

It sounds like he needs counselling of his own to deal with his insecurities. Ultimately he has to deal with his own problems but it sounds like it is time to have a talk about how his accusations and actions make you feel and affect you relationship, he may not realize how serious a problem it is. don't let this sit, talk…

It will take time, try not to be a slave to the scale. Check your food portions and what you are eating, check water intake...and just keep going. I have had weeks where nothing happened and then suddenly the next week I was losing.

40 is the new 20 right? Lol. I know we can all do this together, and I am losing weight for the same reasons as you, feel free to add me as a friend

I sometimes make my own cereal with nuts, coconut, dates..and some other things. Everyday Paleo and Pale Omg are two web sites that have some good recipes

I have stopped trying to justify anything and just win them over with my cooking..lol. This is the first time since giving up on 'diets' that I felt like I am actually just eating, enjoying food, and feeling better. That is all I need, and my family has stopped making comments about how the way I eat is not healthy when…

Yup I am a chunky runner..lol. I ran my first 5K I guess two years ago. This year I have been down with an injury to my hip but I am finally able to run again. I started back on the track on Monday and boy are my legs now sore....but I missed it, glad to be back :) Chunky Runner unite.!!

I started running when I was around 270. I took it slow and worked my way up and listened to my body, if it hurts then stop. The Running Room where I live assess your gait and tells you what type of sneaker to get, which made a world of difference. I did the C25K program and at one point had to stay at the same week for a…

Shin splints can be from a couple of different things - training too much too quickly. A big mistake a lot of people make is trying to run without working up slowly. If you are just starting to run you should slowly start with walk and running. - improper footwear, you should get assessed to see if you pronate. THere is a…

As a personal choice I don't do sugar or artificial sweetners. I use honey and maple syrup. It is amazing how good baking can be without sugar, I have made some wonderful things that other non paleo people have loved. For me artifical sweetners cause serious stomach problems so I just avoid them completely. I have to say…

I hate explaining to people that I have been eating Paleo. I always start by saying, "It's not a diet". This is just how I eat. It started with a dairy allergy and in the process of educating myself on eating without dairy I found Paleo. I have lost 12 lbs in the last month or two. Everyone's first reaction is "how can you…
