I did my first AMRAP workout today. I know a lot of people here skip them but I was curious to see how many reps I'd be able to pull off. I decided to use my Workout 2A/2B numbers because I totally guessed weights in 1A/1B and I often felt like I could have done more than 15. I hadn't totally maxed out with the 2A/2B…

I accidentally delayed adding the extra set until A7 and that worked well for me. I felt like I was barely able to increase weights in rounds 5 and 6 and adding a third set would have meant it was too hard. I felt better by A7 and having it drop to 8 reps helped too. One thing I've done to deal with the 3rd set is to let…

I did 6A yesterday and realized partway through that I was supposed to start doing 3 sets with workout 5A. Doh! I'm sort of glad I didn't see it because I would have been scared to raise some of the weights if I'd had to do them 3 times. I might do an extra round between workout 6B and 7A so I can get the 3 sets of 10 reps…

Just made one of these -- thanks for the links everyone!

I would talk to other parents in the class, especially those with smaller kids, and plan to all send booster seats so your child isn't the only one. My 8 year old is the same height as your child and he's lucky I don't still make him use a 5 point harness. He'll be in a booster until he hits 4'9".

My husband commented on how strong my shoulders felt -- and I didn't mention how much shoulder work I've been doing or ask him how they felt or anything -- he just commented out of the blue! Since I feel like pushups and the shoulder work have been the hardest part of this for me, that was like the best thing he could have…

I was at Disney World for a week in March and I took the same approach -- lots of walking (but no other exercise -- I didn't have a gym) and unrestricted eating. This was my first real vacation in many years and I let myself eat the tasty things. For the week after I got home, I was up 2 lbs, but I lost them quickly after…

I just marked 3000 calories for the day myself. I try to be reasonable while I'm eating -- if I don't love the rolls, I won't have a second. But if they're the amazing ones my uncle makes by hand, heck yeah I'll have two twice a year. I took a lot of veggies so I'd be less inclined to eat more of less healthy stuff. But I…

What does NSV stand for?

I did Workout 1B today (so, the first time with that routine) and once I got started, I felt a lot less silly than I did on Monday with workout A. I had the trainer show me how to do deadlifts, then the rest of the exercises were pretty straight-forward. I can feel it in my shoulders now! Lunges always kill me at BodyPump…

Today was the first day I switched my macros to 40/30/30 and I totally hit them! I haven't closely read the chapter on how to calculate the best number of calories, so for the moment I'm still set at losing 1/2 lb a week, which is about 250 cal under what MFP thinks is my maintenance calories. I think NRoL says that's…

After 3.5 months of about 6 days/wk at the gym including 2-3 with strength training, I went to Disney World for a week, ate a lot, and walked 100,000 steps. By the time I came back, I'd gained 2 lbs (after a couple days, so those were real pounds, not water weight) and lost 3 lbs of muscle. It put me back about a month.

I was a skinny-fat 120 (at 5'7"). My goal is around 130 now, but with a low body-fat %.

I can feel the soreness in my shoulders after yesterday's first workout. I wasn't sure how much I got out of the pushups, but I guess I was doing something!

I've done both calipers and impedance. I joined the Y after Thanksgiving and when you sign up, they include 3 sessions and measure body fat using both methods. One said I had 28% and the other said 29%. At the same time, I joined a weight loss challenge led by a different trainer who weighed us on an impedance scale every…

It's good to hear that stage 1 is largely for getting used to things. I was concerned that I was really low-balling my weights and would spend the whole stage upping them a bit at a time without ever really building muscle because I wasn't pushing the limit, but I suppose that's why stage 1 lasts so long. I definitely need…

I was a month shy of 23 and he was 21. We've been married 10.5 years now. We dated for 5 years before marrying, too, so he was 16 then.

I started today too. I felt like a doofus in the weight room because I wasn't used to being there, but I got over myself and asked the trainer how to use the squat rack and then later, how to get on the ball for the prone jackknives. I jogged a mile outside first to warm up. It took me 1/2 an hour to go through the workout…

Start: tight 10/loose 12 Now: Some 4's, some 6's, size small tops (was a medium), small/med bottoms instead of usually large I just bought size 4 jeans at Old Navy. My LOFT size 6 jeans are falling off. My friend just gave me some other pants and the 6's mostly fit. Waist: 35 -> 29 Hips: 42.5 -> 39 Thigh: 22 -> 21 5'7" 155…

I was able to get a copy of the book at the used book store for $12 today -- I don't have to pay shipping and wait for Amazon after all! I think I'm going to start with the first workout on Monday. Anyone else planning to start this week?
-
I've been thinking about that, too. My 20 mo old weighs 23-24 lbs and before my vacation last week, I had been down that much. He's heavy to carry around -- I don't want that 24/7! I also think about when I weighed 50 more pounds at the end of my first pregnancy. Walking up the stairs was difficult and now I understand why.

Hi -- I got the book off the library waitlist, but before I could start, my hemmorhoid from my last pregnancy flared up (argh! sorry for the TMI) and then I went on vacation where there wasn't a gym. The book is now 5 days overdue and I finally returned it. I'm going to buy it this week, at least. Before I returned it…

The main thing I did was to do partial crunches while wrapping a sheet or towel around my mid-section, so the muscles were pulled together. I also did leg lifts (also with the wrapped sheet) that increased in difficulty as I progressed.

There's a woman in my spinning class with 4 young kids and an impressive 6-pack. I had 3 finger widths' separation after my 2nd son and worked with a physical therapist for a summer and got it down to 1/2 inch. After my third baby, it's stayed under 1 finger width. I had to pay copays but that was it.

I joined the gym and started counting calories Dec 1 to lose 17 lbs baby weight. I have since lost that and another 4 lbs :) My kids are 8 (tomorrow), 6 (next Monday), and 19 mo.

$43/mo for a single membership with free childcare (which I use a ton of) As long as I want to stay YMCA

I read somewhere that an ounce of breastmilk has 20 calories, so someone who is pumping could figure out how many calories to add. My son is 19 months and nurses at nap and bedtime and throughout the early morning while we're sleeping. I put myself on active instead of lightly active and I think that gives me an extra…

The only time I have been excessively sore were for the 3 days after my first weight lifting class. I could barely brush my teeth. But it never hurt like that again. I've been having Herbalife shakes for breakfast for the past couple months, mainly to up my protein because I'm used to high-carb breakfasts and it's nice to…

KristinL, that's my problem too. I have 3 kids and I've always gained a bunch after the baby turns a year because I was eating as if I was the only source of food still, but I'm not. In the past 9 years, I've only been neither nursing nor pregnant for one year, but a couple more years were toddler nursing. I think I forget…
