If I'm there to run, about 30 minutes plus changing time. If I'm there for non-running exercise mabye 45-60 minutes, but right now that is once or twice a week as I am running 4-5 times a week and I need a rest day. Of course now that all the snow and ice has melted I don't run at the gym and besides I'vm now marathon…

I wear a head band when I'm there to run more than 3 miles (cause that's when I need it). It's either my tough mudder orange headband, my spartan race headband for last year or the headband my wife told me to take off because "it makes you look gay". Never had anyone look sideways at me. Because these are franchises your…

There is a guy at my PF who spends the entire winter running in what can best be described as a parka. I assume he's trying to train to run in high high heat. I generally use my PF for ice free running in the winter and weight training a couple times a week around my running. My PF really lets people do their thing without…

I am doing the 30 day Spartan Race Pushup Challenge. So it's been 30 standard pushups and a diamond pushup for whatever number day of April it is. I'm also following a marathon training schedule so that's anywhere from a 3 to a 10 mile run on most days just not mondays or fridays..

I have to get in a 10 mile run before I go anywhere near a Brazilian Steakhouse. I can do some SERIOUS damage there.

My explanation is that you have grossly underestimated your level of activity. 20 pounds lost in 31 days says that you've been operating at a deficit of (on average) 2258.06 calories PER DAY so your TDEE must be higher or your scale is wrong or you are mistaken about your weight loss. Oh and that's a 4 1/2 pound PER WEEK…

Holy Crap, I thought that "Shakeology" was a catch-all derisive term for meal replacement drinks. I had NO IDEA it was an actual product.

Right now... sleep. I need time to commute to work, time to play with my daughter, time to play with my wife  time to do the dishes, time to watch an hour of TV and time to exercise. I'm getting 5 hours of sleep 13 out of 14 days and occasionally I'll sleep in in in in IN on a weekend day. I also stopped putting…

My goal for losing a pound a week is 1500 calories per day. On mondays and fridays (my rest days) I eat nearly this much. The other 5 days a week I exercise, usually but not only running, and then I can eat anywhere from 1800 to 3000 calories, possibly more if I run to OHIO (figuratively). I try to eat back my exercise…

Nothing new on race days!!! I spend the training leading up wearing the clothing I'm gonna run in (on race day) eating the energy chews I'm bringing and if I don't like what they will be handing out for hydration during the race I'll train with my own. It's all about no surprises and being sure everything you do will be…

Sorry, I give them all to my wife, she LOVES mushrooms.

1 gram of carbohydrates is 4 calories, 1 gram of protein is also 4 calories and 1 gram of fat is 9 calories. When I was 27 I weighed 263 lbs. I started getting less than 10% of my calories from fat and ate vegetarian and lost 80 odd pounds. When I stopped eating vegetarian the weight came back because I had no idea how to…

5Ks run 20-40 dollars. Movies about 14 bucks. If I get up for a movie as early as I do for most of my 5Ks I get matinee prices at the movies. I however cannot wait a few months and buy the 5K to have on my home running system. Movies are available on Blu-Ray/DVD fairly quickly these days. I don't get to have a beer after a…

http://running.competitor.com/2013/03/injury-prevention/five-do-it-yourself-remedies-for-plantar-fasciitis_50264 Good info there... I had it last year. I went to see a foot doctor (can't spell what he's called). He offered me either a steroid shot OR oral steroids. I went with the oral steroids as there was a scare up here…

You need a brownie mix/recipe that calls for oil. You sautee, lightly, the grass in the oil to help extract all the ummmm... vitamins.

Study: No-fat, low-fat dressings don't get most nutrients out of salads June 19, 2012 WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The vegetables in salads are chock-full of important vitamins and nutrients, but you won't get much benefit without the right type and amount of salad dressing, a Purdue University study shows. In a human trial,…

I was literally exercising every day, 30 minutes at least, until I started training for a half marathon last year. The training schedule had rest days on monday and friday but at first I was just not running but lifiting and hitting the arc trainer or something... As the miles built, the rest days actually became…

Weight loss is about calories in/out at it's most fundamental level. You should log your fruit. Nutrition is about what gets you those calories, keep eating fruit. Also, don't fear Bananas. I'd really like to know where people started treating bananas like they are a bomb.. Bananas are good, especially on whole wheat bread…

At 44 years old my personal record for a 5k is 25:57 My most recent 5K, Winning Time was 14:38. Fastest time in my age group (males 40-49) was 16:39 My time for that race was 27:53 which put me 141/269 for my age group. I hope to run a sub 25 minute 5k this year, possibly maybe. I tip my hat to anyone that can run a 5k in…

Why would you bring your kids to McDonalds for lunch. Everything they serve for lunch sucks. They have awesome breakfast compared to BK and similiar but their lunch just..... sucks. Wendy's, Arby's, BK, 5 guys... Now we're talking.

My very typical breakfast is a bowl of kashi cereal, skim milk and half a banana cut up into the cereal. I'd say I have this 22 out of 25 days. The other days it's either oatmeal, pancakes, or "eggs and something" Everything else varies BUT if we made it for dinner, chances are it's lunch the next day or dinner later in…

I plan my food for the day most days. It's the exercise that varies. Generally I'll exercise to cover the calories I consume. I plan lighter or heavier days around the type of exercise day I'm planning (long run, rest day, just weights, recovery run) but I usually have to tweak slightly.

I'm giving up chewing gum. I've started chewing it enough that this will be a sacrifice to me especially since it takes my mind off of how long and sucky my drive home from work is. This is a sacrifice, I'm not giving up something that is bad for me, I'm giving up something that I'll seriously miss.

Making your own beer can be very Zen and I like my homemade ice cream better than just about anything I've bought anywhere. Oreos I can't do better than Nabisco. I also brew mead and hard cider when I can find unpasteurized cider which gets increasingly rarer these days...

I prefer to run outdoors. I don't mind rain, dark, cold or hot. I however cannot abide ice, especially potential black ice. As a result, I've been running on a treadmill almost exclusively since before christmas. I cannot wait for all this crap to be gone.
