  • My two for this year are.. Complete a Spartan Race Trifecta. Didn't happen in 2014 because of logistics. I already have the 3 requisite races lined up, so I should be good. Complete a monkey bars obstacle at an obstacle race. I got me a pull up bar and I'll training up. I have crashed and burned at every attempt at this…
  • People do the Dumbo Challenge, and that's 5K,10K,Half,Full in 4 straight days. If you've been training I'm sure you'll be fine. Maybe get a sports massage on the wednesday between.
  • I have used it for support. It never fixed anything but allowed me to continue training when I had an issue without making things worse or feeling they were getting worse. I was wearing it 24x7 when I had PF and it wasn't until I stopped taping and taking advils and let it completely flare up and subside that I was fine…
  • Sadly, I put on weight training for my marathon. On a completely unrelated thing, I got injured and I'm on the shelf for another week and have been for a bit. I plan on getting down to "fighting weight" before I start training for my next marathon. Training starts late February... If I'm down to "fighting weight" I hope to…
  • I am a runner. At heart and in my soul. I am adding some body weight exercise to my routine especially planks because a solid core helps my form. Well that and all my lunatic friends keep dragging me to obstacle course races and they don't just happen from the waist down. Why not add some light bodyweight (pushups, planks,…
  • I had an idea years ago that will make me super rich but I don't have the operating capital. I'm gonna open a store called SIZE ZERO. All clothes will be size 0 and many items will have visible labels that they are size zero. The clothing will have something like different color tags so you can find YOUR size zero, but…
  • This is why all the runners popped out of the woodwork to give you advice. We weren't telling you couldn't, most of us weren't even telling you that you shouldn't, but we did want you to know what you were getting yourself into. As you are now well aware, ramping up to a marathon takes a lot of hard work and TIME. I had…
  • I put together playlists for my Half and Full marathon. I did my best to figure out my expected pace and then planned out the music to start with classical music to keep me from rabbiting at the starts but then switch over to faster music after a resonable distance (5 miles for the half, 13 miles for the full). It's not…
  • Heat WILL make you feel better, in the short term, but you'll be sore pretty well when you exit the tub/shower. Ice Baths SUCK, but they are your key to recovery along with foam rolling, proper stretching and proper nutrition. I'm not saying take an ice bath after EVERY run, but when you are in the thick of your marathon…
  • Yeah I found that I didn't just run a marathon for 26.2 miles but I ran my marathon for months and months as the training commitment was HIGH. The marathon itself was a bit rough. It was the longest race I ever ran. I did run 20 miles during my training but that was at a very comfortable jog and I wasn't pushing myself AT…
  • 7 posts, 9 minutes until the slightest whiff of relationship strife prompts this post. That's actually quite a long time for this site. The general rule is to recommend that people just abandon a relationship instead of work on it and discuss their issues with their partner.
  • Couch-to-5K. Not only does it work on your cardio but it gets your whole body acclimated to the rigors of running. It really eases you into things. I started running by trial and error, wish I knew about it. Would have been a lot easier to get started...
  • I'm sure you'll find something here http://www.neighborfoodblog.com/2014/03/recipes-for-leftover-egg-yolks.html
  • You still need to work after having weight-loss surgery to lose weight. It is just another tool in your kit to accomplish that goal. It's not a magic fix and there are often complications and you never eat anywhere near the same way again. My sister is head nurse at a bariatriac center and had me attend meetings and read…
  • as a runner I can say never trust a fart after 3 miles.
  • I have an insanely long drive to/from work so I get my exercise in where I can. Now that I'm not marathon training, I'm exercising shorter sessions. I am starting to exercise after my daughter goes to be like I used to before I switched jobs, we'll see how that works out. Weekends, I still get up waaaay to early so I can…
  • I am running the PA Grand Canyon Marathon this coming sunday (July 27th). http://www.pagrandcanyonmarathon.com/Home_Page.html It's my first one. Tapering is maddening and trying to get 70% of my calories from Carbohydrates this week has proven challenging, logistically. I'm in high to mid 60s so that should be good enough…
  • MapMyRun - I signed up for Pro to get a bluetooth HRM I also have a PolarFT4 for working out at the gym since I don't care about distance and such on the ellipticals, or a treadmill or when I'm lifting... I used to use Zombies Run! but it was too distracting to run around other people and cars.
  • Don't eat the green bread.
  • Get a heart rate monitor if you care about how many calories you burn.
  • I've put honey on my Cinnamon Toast (yum) but I have long ago stopped looking for magic food combinations that make you lose weight. Now I rely on moving more and eating less. Seems to really work for me.
  • They do give me migraines. Oh wait, that's just the Luddites that come out of the woodwork for these "discussions"
  • Weighing in every day will drive you mental. Perhaps weekly. You can't do a lot of damage in a week.
  • The feelings you should follow is how your clothes feel. When they start feeling too tight you need to buckle down, when they start feeling too loose, you aren't maintaining you are losing.
  • I am currently 3 weeks out from my first Marathon (July 27th) I am a racing junky, I've done 2 half marathons and usually at least 2 races per month. Marathon Training has eaten my life. I have a couple of halves late in the fall and I'll train up for them but as the long runs on the weekend get longer so do the not so…
  • It started as 15-20 seconds and ended with WHAT dafaq WAS THAT?
  • Which is why I cut and ran.
  • I have a marathon coming up at the end of the month. In the entirety of my training I've cut two runs short and that's it. One was on a day where I had a food/hydration issue and yesterday. I was supposed to be running 9 miles but only ran 6 3/4. It was raining, which was fine but the lighting started rolling in. I was…
