  • I've had to work hard all my life to keep pounds off. Some people can't keep weight on. Others seem to be able to lose weight whenever they want to. Not me. So what? Enjoy your body for what it does. You are alive. You are getting healthier. The scale moves up and down for everyone. Don't waste energy on being jealous of…
  • Everybody's gonna get Resurrected, this Easter! :-D
  • For me it was those strangers who were most critical. I decided that since I didn't really know these people - and they didn't know me - I didn't really need their "advice." So, it's closed. It's for my use only anyway, so doesn't need to be open. Again, I know that for some people, having it open is the motivator. But…
  • I also recently closed my food diary for similar reasons. I had been logging using a different site for years, but since they didn't have an app that I could use on my phone, I opted to move to MFP. The other site was not in any way a social one. No blogging, no forums, just you-log-it-and-we-create-progress-reports. I…
  • We've always just eaten it in a bowl. Perhaps with some cheese sprinkled on top.
  • My first workout, I could complete exactly TWO perfect pushups. Two. My trainer said, "I don't care how many pushups you do, as long as you do them right." He also said, "As long as you don't give up, I won't give up." A year later and I can do 15 pushups in 30 seconds, squat 115 lbs (I weight about 170, so this is great…
  • When I have migraines (like now), I want full-sugar Coca Cola, popcorn, crackers, potato chips, corn chips. Salty fatty carbs. It actually seems to help if I take migraine meds with the cola - I'm sure it has to do with the caffeine (diet sodas make it worse; likely the aspertame or other fake sugar). I hydrate like crazy,…
  • LOVE yoga! But you have to have the right class/instructor. If you get an instructor who thinks everyone should be in some inverted pretzel knot, run away! If you get an instructor who helps you work with your physical limitations to increase your flexibility and stamina, then you've got a winner. I have chronic back…
  • YAY and THANK YOU! Chicken Makhni is my absolute fave, and I'm so gonna make this, this weekend :-D
  • Finishing demo of our kitchen & living room. Perhaps celebrating with Moscow Mules. Remodel begins next week. W00T!
  • I always liked the foam roller, but only recently read about how very beneficial it is for the muscle tissue. While stretching (yoga, pilates, and other forms of stretching) works on the length of the muscles, foam rolling works on the quality & density of the muscles - which is equally important. My trainer has me roll…
  • Stand ON the plateau.
  • All peppers EXCEPT jalapenos. Green chile peppers are the worst as they give me fiery indigestion for days. It has nothing to do with mildness or hotness, as banana peppers (which are really mild) also give me indigestion. I have no idea why jalapenos don't trigger it; they must have some different enzymes or something.
  • I do not let being sick be an excuse to not workout. I skip the gym though, cuz I don't want to expose my fellow gym-goers to my germ-infested sweat. I usually hop onto our elliptical for 30 min. This is particularly helpful when I have a respiratory illness, as I feel like it gets my lungs going - pushing out the gunk…
  • My best friend was diagnosed with MS two years ago - main symptoms were severe fatigue, anemia, double-vision. She had been working with a personal trainer prior to her diagnosis and her doc told her to continue. The trainer's classes are bootcamp style, and while she can't always do everything, the trainer modifies all…
  • Grandma Got Runover by a Reindeer. UGH I hate it!!! Close second: Feliz Navidad
  • I will respond In much the same way I do when I tell my teenaged son to unload the dishwasher, and he puts all the dishes on the counter instead of their respective places because he says I did not specify where each item should be put away: You understood my phrasing.
  • Denver, CO
  • OK, well you aren't putting it in your lungs then are you? That said, I do think self-medicating is not healthy and if you're on MFP you are presumably trying to live a healthier life style. I simply think it's unhealthy. If you want to use, use. But don't try to convince me that it is good for the average healthy person…
  • As an IT geek, I can tell you this is bad advice. Once it's on the interwebs, it's forever on the interwebs. You can delete, but copies exist and are searchable (for those who know how, and perspective employees do know how).
  • While in theory I have no problem with folks who smoke (tobacco or marijuana), I do have issue with folks attempting to pass it off as healthy, ever. Putting anything other than oxygen in your lungs is not healthy. Period. Yes, there are medical benefits, and I have no issue with that. But I do find a whole lotta folks…
  • I think the bashing comes from the misnomer of "eating clean" and the people who like to wave their Eating Clean flags as if the rest of us are lesser beings for liking an occasional Twinkie. I like that you make the distinction of eating "cleaner" and more "sustainably." It is essentially impossible to eat clean, given…
  • The Bad Lieutenant is clearly the worst movie ever made.
  • Sweater Weather - The Neighborhood
  • AMEN! I came to similar conclusions during my journey. Got side-tracked for a couple of years, but have less than 20 lbs to go (out of 60+ lbs). Don't lick the plate clean, don't make excuses to not exercise, don't quit, don't say "I can't", don't beat yourself up, do one more (that's my workout mantra btw). I'm…
  • And bananas. Darn those bananas.
  • Believe it or not, oil can be your friend. For years I used Proactiv, which was good, but expensive. Then I tried and even more expensive olive oil-based cleanser, which was fantastic, but out of my budget. So I started looking for less expensive versions of olive oil cleansers and VOILA found one you can make at home with…

  • WHAT?! Caramel is burnt sugar with milk and vanilla stirred in. If a mixture of ground cocoa beans, sugar, milk and vanilla is considered food, then caramel must also be a food. Just sayin'.
  • My "magic" weightloss ratio is 50% carb/ 30% fat/ 20% protein. It's what works for me; but not for everyone :-)
